Gotta figure out how to wash this stench out of our system. Now this one is a critical game, at least for our confidence. Hard to have energy in New Jersey, but let's get it done.

Not sure if it is a good or bad thing (lean towards bad), but the Hall is going to be as desparate as we are (if not more) for a win. They are in their own tailspin at the moment.

Box out, limit turnovers, play smart defense. The rest will come.

Now is the time.
If you split the BE schedule into three six-game stretches, we performed well in the first third (4-2, including a win over Butler and our two losses were on the road to quality teams). The schedule was more difficult in the second third, which concluded today, because we had Nova twice in that span. 3-3 overall. Obviously some disappointing losses, but when you factor in that two of the games were against Nova, it's not all that bad.
The schedule in this final third is probably somewhere in the middle -- there are fewer "we definitely should win" games (only DePaul), but there really is only one "it'd be nice to steal it" game (at Butler). We basically need to split the other four to continue to be in solid position for a bid and a seed in which we'll be favored to win our first game. I think we all hope we win three out of those four, in order to go 4-2 in these final six. Either way...it starts with this one.
Just. Play. Solid. Nothing more.

We need to sweep either St Johns or the Hall, split with the other, beat DePaul and hope for the best against Butler. It needs to start with this one though........

We will learn a lot more about this team this week than we did last week. Do they rally around each other or fall apart?

Must win 2 of the next 3. If we don't we are on the outside looking in.

Must win 2 of the next 3. If we don't we are on the outside looking in. It'd be nice, that's for sure. We clearly need to win no fewer than two of our final six to have a reasonable chance, and two of the next three (DeP and SH) would be the easiest two.

We need to win 6 of the next 6 to be the hoya team we all know they can be. Being able to hit 30% from 3 and 75% from the free throw line should be a bare minimum expectation. 1/17 doesn't cut it and if we shot even NCAA Division 1 mean yesterday we would have had a reasonable chance of success.

GU has to find a way to neutralize Angel Delgado on the boards. The Hall has yet to figure out how to integrate him into their offense, and a large portion of his offensive production comes from rebounds off of missed Pirate shots. He is not good at the foul line, and we should employ our version of Hack-a-Hop if he gets the ball.
The Pirates are very guard-centric in their offensive sets, and will settle for the three-point shot from Sterling Gibbs and Jared Sina before looking for Delgado or Brandon Mobley inside. When Isaiah Whitehead gets the ball, it is going up (either directly or on a drive); he'll never lead the conference in assists.
Most importantly, this team does not have the heart of other Big East teams; there is a growing concern that Kevin Willard has "lost" this team. They do not play well under pressure. When they can open up a good sized lead, they are fine. We cannot afford to come out cold in this game.

Bare minimum? There's less than 15 teams in the country that shoot 75% from the line!!

Not sure if it is a good or bad thing (lean towards bad), but the Hall is going to be as desparate as we are (if not more) for a win. They are in their own tailspin at the moment. HUGE game for both teams. Seton Hall had an even worse week than we did, losing at DePaul and then home vs. Marquette, two losses to teams outside the RPI top 100. They stand at 15-8, 5-6 in conference, RPI of 54, a bubble-licious profile at best. A win over us would go a long ways towards their potential NCAA bid. A loss could be extremely damaging. I think they are very, very desperate right now. On the other hand, we need to get off our own schnide. Right now, despite our tough week, we still look to be a solid NCAA Tournament team (through probably more like an 8-seed right now). We lose on Tuesday, we fall to 7-6, and drift more dangerously towards the bubble. We win on Tuesday, we go to 8-5, have a week off until playing St. John's at home, and we'll feel much better about ourselves. Huge road game. We also need to payback Seton Hall for sweeping us last year. We've played poorly recently but there have been some bright spots - we basically played 28 solid minutes vs. Providence in building a 13-point lead, and while it was a bit sloppy, we did beat Creighton by 27 at their place. Just tighten a few things up, make some shots, and we'll be fine. Time to show them all what we're made of.

What we need to do is beat The Hall. Focus on that right now and worry about the rest of the schedule later.

Pivotal game in sense that this will tell us if last week was just a mini-slump or if we are about to go into a more sustained and potential NCAA jeopardizing slide. I unfortunately fear the latter, please prove me wrong Hoyas.

Need to come out of the gates ANGRY and HUNGRY. Win every 50/50 ball, SLAM the boards, play HARD defense, and keep both feet on the gas in terms of intensity for the whole game.

I unfortunately fear the latter, please prove me wrong Hoyas. This is my feeling exactly. Failure to win this and St. John's game could be a sign of bad things to come. Splitting may be survivable but losing both a disaster. But I'm betting on JT3 and our talent to right the ship.
