UTEP lost their coach to Texas A&M two seasons ago - however the new guy is pretty good too - I'm not sure if UTEP is still in the WAC though - I thought they might have been one of the schools that joined Conference USA along with the University of Tulsa and TCU. Updated to reflect CUSA status

I think we're going to have to ask Dorothy and Toto to see if one of the Hoya players can borrow her ruby red slippers if we're going to see a couple of home OCC games. "There's no place like MCI, there's no place like MCI"
Either that or Dickie V is going to start calling us either the road warriors or roadkill. I'm going to change my login name to the farfromhomehoyas

Hey - you guys can talk all you want I'm working on getting tickets to the OU game and looking into hotels in El Paso. I think the Oklahoma game is off the table. Georgetown was being considered for the All-College Tournament but it eventually went to West Virginia. The Mountaineers' schedule this year will either make them a top 10 team or absolutely bury them. To the question above, the Sun Bowl Basketball Tournament (once known as the Sun Carnival Tournament) dates back to 1961.

I thought that the Oklahoma State game was off the table because that would have been the matchup in the All College Classic, however the OU matchup was OU's usual non-conference Big East opponent game (lately this has been UCONN).

Here are the confirmed games so far for the 2005-2006 season. I've included their records and RPIs from last year. I've also included their records, avg record and avg RPI over the last 3 & 6 years (given in that order separated by a /) to give a better idea of how each team usually does. Date | | Venue | | Opponent & Conf | | 2005 RPI | | 2005 Record | | Avg RPI | | 3 yr / 6 yr Record | | Avg Record | 11/18/05 | | AWAY | | Navy (PAT) | | 304 | | 8-18(5-9) | | 301.7/243.8 | | 18-60/65-98 | | 6-20/11-16 | 12/03/05 | | AWAY | | Oregon (P10) | | 81 | | 14-13(6-12) | | 73.3/65 | | 52-34/109-63 | | 17-11/18-10 | 12/27/05 | | Sun Bowl | | Colgate (PAT) | | 238 | | 10-16(7-7) | | 242.3/236.5 | | 35-44/71-86 | | 12-15/12-14 | 12/27/05 | | Sun Bowl | | Miss. Valley St. (SWAC) | | 251 | | 13-15(11-7) | | 208/233.8 | | 48-34/81-80 | | 16-11/14-13 | 12/27/05 | | Sun Bowl | | UTEP (WAC) | | 33 | | 25-7(14-4) | | 126.7/132.5 | | 52-38/95-83 | | 17-13/16-14 | TBD | | AWAY | | Michigan (B10) | | 157 | | 13-18(4-12) | | 92.3/106.7 | | 48-42/82-91 | | 16-14/14-15 | TBD | | AWAY | | Illinois (B10) | | 2 | | 32-1(15-1) | | 14.3/13.5 | | 80-13/149-36 | | 27-4/25-6 | TBD | | HOME | | Fairfield (MAAC) | | 178 | | 15-15(11-7) | | 128.6/164 | | 53-37/91-85 | | 13-15/15-14 | TBD | | TBD | | Oklahoma (B12) | | 16 | | 24-7(12-4) | | 23/16.5 | | 67-23/144-39 | | 22-8/24-7 | TBD | | HOME | | Duke (ACC) | | 4 | | 25-5(11-5) | | 5.7/4 | | 76-16/159-27 | | 25-5/27-5 |
Feel free to use this thread for rampant speculation and updates. I will update the table as more information becomes available. "I put my pants on just like the rest of you - one leg at a time. Except, once my pants are on, I make gold records." -- JTIII reflecting on his scheduling

Not the actual schedules, but the conference pairings, so we should know who we'll play home, away, both, or not at all.

Nice to see the Big East thinks little of our chances...

On the other hand, this may be part of why JTIII is taking an aggressive approach to OOC scheduling. If we can snag a couple of quality wins outside of Big East play, then playing an easier in-conference schedule won't hurt -- especially because we had no control over it -- and it should provide a somewhat easier road to a winning in-conference record.

Yep -- and I don't mean to belittle the Bulls, but I think it is obvious that USF is the odd man out in the conference right now. They had a good year last year but lost their best player to graduation, and there's no natural rivalries with them. If we were going to end up getting a lower level team for mirror team, I was hoping it'd be DePaul (who might struggle this year) or the Hall.

I hope we don't get stuck with three lower levels for our mirror teams. That would not be fun at all.

This is an embarrasment - I'm so angry about USF being our mirror opponent for TWO years. This is absolutely ridiculous. They should have done SJU, Rutgers, and Seton Hall. Or thrown in Marquette, Pittsburg, or someone else on their way down. If our other two mirror opponents aren't big name programs - namely Cuse, UCONN, WV, UL, or ND I think we clearly will know that the football school are now running even the basketball scheduling.
This "start" of the new Big EAST is really Editeding me off. I'd rather have every alumni donate $1000 build a D-I football program and switch to the ACC than have our mirror opponents in basketball be USF, Seton Hall, Rutgers, DePaul, Marquette, or SJU. IF those are going to be our mirror opponents we minus well play in the Patriot league.

We all wanted a better OOC schedule but maybe III has gone overboard a bit. With Illinois, Duke, Michigan, Oregon, Fairfield, Navy, two of the Colgate/Miss. Valley St./UTEP, and, maybe Oklahoma - and, most of them not at home - we could well end up with a dismal record OOC. Hope not but that's some kinda of schedule.

We are playing Duke this year? Someone pulled the separate Duke game thread very quickly. Interesting.
