I'm more worried about Mikael against their bigs defensively than I am about Josh. Josh tends to pick up his fouls doing things other than playing positional defense against his assigned man, and he's likely to be doing much more assigned defense in this one. Mikael gets fouls helping others, too, but he also picks up fouls trying to block his man's shot.
In any event, as it will be all year, keeping our bigs out of foul trouble will be vital.

Xavier will likely be favored in this one. absolutely. Kenpom has them a 4pt favorite with a 66% chance of the home team winning. Sagarin has them at a 4.93pt favorite. GAMER predicts us to lose by 9 and only gives us a 24.9% chance of winning. I'm sure Vegas will have Xavier Favored. On paper this is a game we should lose, but Obviously I don't think we will.

Gotta admit I don't like the fact they have gunners from 3 and we struggle to defend the 3 not to mention one of those is Myles Davis who may have a chip on his shoulder from our slow play recruiting of him.

This is the first team since Wisconsin that can matchup with Smith and Hopkins inside. This game will be a true test of our ability to stay out of foul trouble in the paint. Xavier has three bigs that play alot and play physical. If Smith and Hopkins sit for long stretches then the smaller lineup with Copeland playing the 5 could really struggle. Hitting some outside shots will be critical to pulling them out, as I doubt very much there will be much room given to Smith down low at the outset as they will try to protect their bigs from foul trouble, as well. JT3 can always use our seven-footer Hayes (ducks!).

Kudos to the OOC schedulers for the 2 previous games! Similar MO (but with an inside presence)...

Take the Hoyas. I have to say, I usually wouldn't be annoyed by Stainbrook's heavy-footed fundamentalness, but for some reason I'm bugged. I hope Josh doesn't get called for any "bigger guy" fouls so he can dominate down low.

The "bigger man" fouls should even out more against Xavier than against most other teams. We need to take this one by at least 8. No excuses. It's winning time.

I wouldn't be surprised if we blew them out, I just have a good feeling about it.

Davis has yet to face the Bitches Brew kind of defense the Hoyas will throw at him. As a result he will enter the new year kind of blue.

Is there anything to this Davis story-line at all or is it just some made-up nonsense. I suspect the latter, since all I recall about his recruiting is that he was a good shooter but not a huge priority, but we did pursue him, and he chose to go elsewhere.

Yeah we definitely pursued him late, cause he didn't really warrant a full court press and I'm sure he realizes that. He chose to go elsewhere. If he's still butthurt then good grief, I hope someone like that isn't the one one to put a dagger in us tonight.

I'm still Editeded about us blowing the game @ Xavier last year. Up 13 at half. Led all the way up until 5 minutes left in the game and ended up losing by 13! We went scoreless for the final 6 minutes! 16-0 run to end the game! Gah! I'm probably being melodramatic, but I sort of thought that was the turning point of the season last year. And, yes, I am still Editeded about it, too. Im sure you and everyone here remembers that we were still 3-1 even without Smith, and that would have got us to 4-1 with two home games coming up. Just a complete meltdown in that game.

Well tonight could go south quickly if the team cannot handle its first truly hostile crowd. Most of the rotation did not play in front of Xavier's crowd last year. Hopefully, the veterans stay composed and lead the freshmen. I have been impressed by the crowds that Xavier, Butler and Creighton bring to the BE. Adds an x factor that was missing without Syracuse, Conn., Pitt and Louisville.

We need to tame the beast--the crowd--and keep them out of this game.

I'm going to be shocked if there are more than 6k there. Maybe 18 students
