Three years is pretty ridiculous. Having said that it seems to me that a timetable like that absolutely kills recruiting for them. They've already got their '15-'16 class set, right? So that's year one. Year two is '16-'17 and that is when the scholarship limits come in I believe. So not only do you have fewer scholarships to hand out and fewer recruiters to scrounge for players but now you've got potential recruits knowing that at best they will have to deal with a new head coach after their sophomore season. And yeah you can say that they will stick with the same kind of playing style but there are zero guarantees with a new coach in place. Why would any recruit with options elsewhere want to sign on for that? And year three in '17-'18? Its all about the coach and his "farewell tour" plus you know you've got a new coach next year. High level recruits would be crazy to sign on for that. There is speculation on their boards that this is a tactic to get the NCAA to reduce the duration of the scholarship limitation to 2 years, so as not to punish the new coach because of Boeheim's sins. Not usually the NCAA style, but who knows?

Not usually the NCAA style, but who knows? I'd have more belief that this is feasible, had Boeheim's "retirement" announcement been made before the NCAA penalties came down. I don't think this will change the NCAA's decision, especially since other programs have had scholarship reduction penalties which impacted new coaches at other institutions, and it didn't matter to the NCAA then.

Why couldn't this all wait until April 7th? Ridiculous.

Wow. If Thamel is piling on, the end of the world as we know it is now at hand.

What course is never skipped at Syracuse? Cockroach 101 which Thamel clearly passed with flying colors. How did this escape Mr. Investigative Journalist all these years?

If you want a real laugh, the syracusefan.com board is lividly angered by Thamel's article. They seem to have forgotten all of the years of unvarnished support for SU that Thamel gave them before this article.

Someone probably ghost wrote it for him while he was in the bathroom crying.

Boeheim to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. tomorrow - just in time to upstage the first day of the tourney. Typically classless SU move. Gee I wonder if the NCAA will remember this as SU tries to negotiate reduced sanctions in connection with its appeal?? What's the over-under in minutes as to how long it will take for Boeheim to get snarky with a reporter and refuse to answer a question? Minutes???

Yes but where does he rank all time in NCAA penalties for one program?

He's spent years in and around that cesspool, praising Jimmy B and his merry band of idiots left and right. NOW he realizes what a turdbowl it was the entire time? Funny how that happened.

Boeheim coming out swinging at his press conference. Arguing that he is being held strictly liable as head coach w/o chance to rebut. Trying to have it both ways. Claims he accepts responsibility but wasn't his fault and disagrees with the NCAA's findings.

Claims he accepts responsbility but wasn't his fault. I do not think that word means what you think it means.
