Always get a warm feeling when someone mentions the 1982 blowout at MSG. Was my first road game as a freshman and it was a complete blast. It also announced to the nation that we were very, very dangerous after a lackluster Great Alaska Shootout. Elvado and Sir Saxa, that was a classic game that I remember clearly. Yes, it announced that we would be in the mix with the elites.

Sirsaxa thanks for bringing up that classic game. Definitely thought of it as halftime was approaching and glad others remember it as well. Guess that makes us old, huh?

FTs are a real adventure for this team. Happy for Moses today, but this squad is shooting <60% from the line if you exclude DSR and Starks. That's not a problem when you're up 25 pts with 5 mins to go, but I don't expect many more games like this one.

Anyone remember the St. John's game several years later where Alonzo and Motumbo had about 12 blocks? BTW, will someone tell me why Lavin is still at St. John's? Every time I see St. John's play they look totally unprepared. We have several major weaknesses none of which Lavin's teams ever seem able to take advantage of.

That 41-9 game was astounding. At halftime I remember all of my friends looking at one another with a "holy s___, this team is not just good, it is special!" look on our faces. I think it may have been the only game of Mullins' career in which he did not score a point. MSG games back in the glory days of the big east, against either St. John's or in the BE tournament - were really amazing!!

I just get the sense III takes nothing for granted anymore. I don't blame him. We need every edge possible with this team. I guess they could have probably played more, but meh. With this team this year, we don't need to be giving guys time who aren't going to be in the rotation. We struggle to score. Our starting five and rotation guys need as much time as possible, as much chemistry and continuity as possible - even if we are up 30 Someone like Cameron should be able to grab 10 minutes in a game like today. He is a freshman who would likely benefit from game time. Look at how Bowen has progressed since he has been getting real PT. It would have been valuable to give someone like Bowen some time last year so it would pay off this year. Same is likely true with Cameron. Some guys need actual game PT to develop, just competing in practice doesn't always help. Some of their problems are mental and the more they play the more the game will slow down and they will be more confident on the court.

Kansas State just got a big win at home against Oklahoma State. K State is better than they were at the start of the season, but our blow out may be helpful at selection time. That win is huge right now. Go Kansas State. Might be more surprising that we beat ksu by 30 than that we lost to NE the day before.

Little off topic and don't know whether its been mentioned already....but based on my accounting, D'Angelo Harrison is a combined 4 for 33 from the field in his last 3 games against the Hoyas. He's got to hate playing us.

DSR should have been getting constantly double teamed everytime he was on the court...force him to put the ball on the floor and beat u off the dribble; not let him get open 3pt shots..Also make someone else beat u like Starks, Trawick, Smith.

One of the problems in the past was that the role player guys we would give PT to and invest minutes in would end up leaving the program. This happened with Jeremiah, Nikita and Bennimon in separate years. So we let them play the minutes and let them throw up air balls and miss layups and become turnover machines at the cost of losing a couple games without receiving the payoff of that playing time experience.

I didn't know where to put this and didn't want to start a new thread but Coach K should know that Mike Brey just won the ACC Coach of the Year.

I'm more than willing to happily admit that I didn't see this one coming.
Also, repeat after me: Steve Lavin is not, and never has been, a good coach. I have nothing against him personally, and continue to wish him good luck at St. John's, but as a coach, well, he's somewhere just north of Esh. Maybe.

The first game at MSG this year will be interesting, since I can't imagine they like us any more today then they did Friday.
We played a stunningly efficient game - combined 190 shooting percentages - but shutting them down was the far more impressive, 111.4 combined I think. Every member of our team stepped up.

This is a good point. There are two sides of the coin. Bench players come in and realize they can't take the pressure and leave.

Exactly. Lavin inherited enough talent at UCLA that with his ability to recruit added in, even he couldn't screw them up!

Zach Braziller @nypost_Brazille 4h Sir'Dominic Pointer on Georgetown: "We don't like them at all." #sjubb Let’s beat that…haha That's Old Big East kind of rivalry. Remember this oldie: The Redmen are Dead men! GO HOYAS!!! Nice game Hoyas.

How is your boy balla doing after another DSR fest? Oh, yes, he doesn't belong in Div. 1, right? Is he giving props to him or, like with Roscoe, silence is best? As for Lavin, like Esh, it's always easier to coach from the announcer's box. The announcers are always right.

Anyone else want to argue that this team isn't better when they play faster and force tempo?
Been saying this all year: This specific team, this season, will be most effective scoring in this format. We mask a lot of our deficiencies this way. Just how the roster composition worked its way out.
St. John's was TOTALLY unprepared for the new look Hoyas, got punched in the mouth and couldn't recover. It really looked like they were shocked we pressed and even more shocked we weren't walking the ball up the court and running our sets all the way through before putting up a jump shot. I give full credit to III for finally seeing this (hope it continues). St. John's is the type of team I thought we'd struggle with big time but that was such a compete effort all around. Love it!
Oh and also was happy that two good local scoring guard recruits got to see it!

I dont disagree with your general assertion, but St Johns was totally unprepared because they are always totally unprepared. Under Lavin, they always look that way. Why would you think we'd have trouble versus them at home? We've won like ten straight there against them, and undisciplined, athletic teams are teams we usually dominate.
