I hate this discussion because I love Nate as a college player. But it's also true that he isn't going to be playing in the NBA. I wish that weren't the case for his sake but it doesn't make it less true.

Jeff Green is a face-up player, finesse. Nate is a back to basket, banger. No ones saying he's an NBA starter. But just as Madsen was for most of his career, Nate has a chance to be a role player to give hustle minutes off bench.

All of that said, I'd love for him to make me eat my words and apologize for having doubted him. I just don't see it and that sucks because any person watching him over his time so far can see how much he puts into improving and how much he gets after it. He has the intangibles in spades. I'd LOVE to be able to argue the other side of this one. I swear I would.

Now you're baiting me. He's a banger, yes. Back to basket guy? Really? At the pro level? Agree to disagree.

NBA is a reach but Nate will have a spit overseas and maybe even the D league. He is playing great thus far but it is mostly due to his high IQ. He is taking mostly very high percentage shots close to the basket. If he were to develop a stronger face up game, range, and another post move or two he will be fine at some level professionally.
As of now though, he has a year and a half and is playing incredible. Enjoy what we have.

way too many 3's in the game. otherwise, a very well played game. a horribly officiated game...again. it says a bunch about this team that starks can shoot that poorly and they still win by 10+. keep the momentum going at rutgers. always a tough place to play.

Don't count Nate out at this point. He's made good strides in the past year and if he continues on that upward trajectory - who knows? I feel he wouldn't make it at this point but if improvement continues he may bring enough as a role player, facilitator whatever for a particular team who needs that. Jury is still out - wait till next year to write him off.

With so many points in the paint and rebounds, I still cannot believe that Nate had zero FTAs vs SJU.

Like the play down by the SJU bench when he got punched/slapped in the face? Or the double team under the Hoyas' basket in the 2d half? Either way, what an awesome game for him! He was on fire on both ends of the court all day long!

The officiating in that game was an abomination. I don't have the patience to go through the tape, but I'm pretty sure that the crew called: (1) more offensive fouls than they did blocking fouls in the paint and (2) a record ratio of off the ball fouls to total fouls. The fact that they went to the video replay to determine if Moses committed a flagrant foul during a free throw box out, but failed to call a single blocking foul in the paint in the first half is just bewildering.

I imagine a Nate Lubick next year who can consistently drain that 12-15 foot jumper, from the corner and from the top of the key, and it gets me all warm and tingly inside. Too much information? ;D (EDIT: I should clarify. I think he's more or less got that shot now, but I don't think he looks to take it often. If he can be a mid-range scoring threat, in addition to his other skills, that is one pretty complete player.)

Some quick thoughts:
* I love Nate Lubick, but he's not going to the NBA. I also hate the fact that this is some kind of insult. The dude has been fantastic this year in the sense that aside from being a bit turnover prone, he's playing each game about as well as he possibly can.
He's improved his FT and jump-shooting. He looks like he lost some weight. He rarely misses layups. He's gotten better at scoring in traffic. He's still not a monster rebounding but is grabbing boards he used to tip and tipping balls opponents used to grab. He doesn't take bad shots and gets into position for easy buckets. He's become a good pick and roll defender and closes out on the corner three well. Just because the NBA requires a different level of size and athleticism shouldn't be an insult.
* I know everyone loves the dunks of Aaron Bowen, but I think my favorite part is how committed he is to the offensive boards. Is this the same guy who used to jack up shots and look for cherry-picking dunks? I'm glad he got PT, because at least in this aspect, he's a total scrapper. There's a reason why we're dominating the boards recently, and while Otto Porter is reason 1A, the effort level put in by Bowen, Trawick, Lubick and DSR on the boards is reason 1B.
* To that point, one of the biggest improvements in our offense over the last five games has been our offensive rebounding. We're not dominating, and we still have some offensive rebounding stinkers, but it's been huge recently. After not breaking 32% versus a non-cupcake until South Florida (a game we lost on D), and only going over 30% once, we've now registered 42%, 36%, 37%, 49% in four of the last five games.
* Hopkins made some shots, which was nice. I hope that helps his confidence, but I'd still rather see a small lineup out there or Moses.
* Markel shot and missed a lot, but I can only remember one I really wished he didn't shoot, and one that he should have shot faster/stepped up. I like him shooting when he's open and I like him shooting from three. Our defense is so good at times that Markel can be a walking 6-0 run.
* Trawick had a great game. Great D. Great toughness. Filled the stat sheet like Otto. Attacked the glass. Made his threes. If the last part becomes a consistent thing for him, he could be a junior year/senior year star.

I liked the slo-mo of the dunk play. DSR lifts to shoot the 3 and Bowen starts making his move from beyond the arc towards the hoop before DSR's release. He follows the ball and jumps right before it hits the rim. He had the perfect angle to realize the ball was not going in. His head ends up at mid-net level. Two-hand dunk!

He'd also be an underskilled 4 lacking the offensive ability of say a Jeff Green. (just to join the fun) Madsen only twice shot over 50% in the league and took 16 3s in his career, making 1. Tell me how Nate can'tbe that efficient? he knows he is low on the list of who should attempt even a mid-range jumper on this team, but that doesn't mean he can't hit from 10-15'.

Ah, Mark Madsen. Your inexplicable nine year career has given hope to fans of white power forwards for years!
