Brett McMurphy, who's killed conference realignment:
Notre Dame will join ACC as full member w/exception of football. ND will play 5 football games annually vs. ACC, sources told @espn
Not a surprise, but not happy news either.
Mods, feel free to move to an existing thread.

Would like to see this confirmed by a non-ESPN reporter, but certainly not good news. Better than losing another football team, but still not helpful.

Does BE Hoops add another Basketball only member Xavier (probably not because of Cincy) or Dayton?
or just stay at 17
That hurts.

Didn't ESPN's exclusive 60-day negotiating window with the Big East open at midnight on September 1st? Wow, what a coincidence.

We need to join the ACC in non-football sports now. It's time.

So we will do a collection on this site to pay the exit fee?

This is a very bad development - obviously. Makes a tough situation worse.

As steadily we head toward an all-basketball alignment.

Didn't ESPN's exclusive 60-day negotiating window with the Big East open at midnight on September 1st? Wow, what a coincidence. Bridge is burned and has been for quite some time. Probably likely we don't even see an offer from them during the 60-day window that has even a remote chance of being seriously considered. And, in the meantime, the WWL continues to try to devalue the BE as much as possible. Bunch of snakes.

At least we are getting rid of all of the annoying schools. But that's little comfort.

Other than destabilizing the Big East, what does the ACC get out of this arrangement? Of course, that might be more than enough reason.

We need to join the ACC in non-football sports now. It's time. I'm sorry, but this and strummer's last post are just comical. Like Georgetown can wave a magic wand and the ACC will suddenly shift its focus from BCS football and getting a huge TV deal (to share among the fewest number of teams possible) to expanding on the basketball side. Let's get real here. We're heading on a slow march towards a Bball-only conference.

Other than destabilizing the Big East, what does the ACC get out of this arrangement? Of course, that might be more than enough reason. Headline on the press release: "Notre Dame to join Atlantic Coast Conference; football stays independent but brings 5 games annually to ACC" ON EDIT: To link my post above with this one, here's my guess. Notre Dame will partner with ESPN to provide content for the new "Notre Dame Network" beginning in 2015 when the NBC contract expires. The ACC is okay with this as long as ACC schools are featured on the network for nearly 50% of the regular season games every season. Either the Big East balked at a similar arrangement, Notre Dame didn't want a similar arrangement with the BE, or ESPN told them it couldn't happen unless they go to the ACC. One additional note: 27 months from today would be December 12, 2014.

ACC now has 15 basketball schools. We are a nice fit as the 16th school, imo.
Yes, football is king and they might not make the offer. We need to try to get in though.
