The waiver is just a formality. I always said they needed a waiver. Hope they get it.

The waiver is just a formality. This is now the big question - does the NCAA (which is not exactly known for consistent and fair treatment) grant these requests as a matter of course? rockhoya, do you know this for a fact?

Id feel good about the waiver if he had a sick relative in the area, but he doesnt. I mean what do we think they are using as an excuse? That he was under stress which caused him to lose control of his weight? Im not being flip, I'm being serious. It has to be something along those lines right?
If you play 6 games and get hurt, you probably get the year back as a redshirt. Not being fit is kind of an injury albeit self imposed.

The coach situation at UCLA should count for something. Howland was a jerk and people were leaving in droves. Then he got fired (yes that was technically after josh left but still the same season). Josh shouldn't be punished for leaving a bad situation. Hopefully the NCAA sees it that way.

Josh shouldn't be punished for leaving a bad situation. Hopefully the NCAA sees it that way. It seemed to count for Drew Gordon, who played 4 full seasons. It also seems to have counted for Khem Birch, and Dixon, while a schmuck, wasn't even fired. a brief glance at the interwebs has no mention of the waiver for either of them, and I don't think either were hurt or claimed to be. So let's hope it is in fact a formality. I just don't think III goes out and gets Josh thinking he has either half of one season or a full delayed season with him.

I just don't think III goes out and gets Josh thinking he has either half of one season or a full delayed season with him. Ding Ding Ding Ding... we have a WINNER!!!This is an entirely routine matter that happens countless times every single season. Can anyone cite an example of a waiver NOT being granted in a case like this? And it has nothing to do with a sick relative in the area. That applied to Julian Vaughn - and it enable him to play for GU right away after transferring, without sitting out any time at all. Josh has already sat out one semester and needs to sit out one more. The waiver application must be submitted - and will be granted. Sometimes this board takes the most minute item and grinds it and grinds it and grinds it some more - to no purpose whatsoever. This is one of those times.

Standig article with selected quotes posted in the main forum here. Please discuss NCAA waiver / eligibility and related topics there and let's get back to 2014 recruit discussion in this thread. Thanks.

Ah, more evidence that the Smith case is up in the air.

This is one of my favorite threads ever. Can't believe I just discovered it. So many reliably long-winded, repetitive, know-it-all boobs exposed as completely, intractably, loud wrong. It was beautiful to read.

Is the polling feature available in this new version of HoyaTalk?
If so, let's take a poll on: A. Josh Smith plays three semesters at GU (starting in December '13 through May 2015) B. Josh Smith plays one semester (Spring 2014) C. Josh Smith plays two semesters (Fall 2014 - Spring 2015) D. Although eligible through May 2015, Josh Smith leaves early for the NBA Draft after Spring 2014 semester.

Josh's second cousin's stepson in Lexington has a severe acne outbreak, and Smith gets a medical waiver and transfers to UK in August.

Did we sign Martin Geben on the QT? Just wondering, since he dropped 45 spots.
Copeland -16, Campbell ? (not rated).

Campbell is somewhere in the Top 150.
Copeland's rating will go back up after the NBPA camp.
