Belmont is likely overrated by margin of victory systems. But they are still wildly under seeded. This is getting to be a habit for the committee, isn't it? Add in the fact that they press and shoot threes, and this is pretty much the worst draw we could have gotten as a 3 seed. As for the Pomeroy stuff, I think the real lesson of those stats is that for a half, or even a game, 3pt shooting % is really erratic. Teams facing great defense can still shoot the lights out (or miss open shots). I'm not favoring Belmont but they are exactly the type of team you'd make to upset us if you only old play with their kind of talent. I think the second round matchups are better, but Belmont is a tough matchup for a 3 seed. I hope our size overwhelms them, but I am not nearly as hopeful as some of you. I really dont see how they are underseeded. They are 1-4 against the top 100. Have three losses outside the top 100. Their RPI is 58. Iona has 5 wins against the top 100, and they are a 14 seed. Ohio is 7-3 against the top 100, and they are a 13 seed. To me, Ohio is the type of team that is underseeded. I think they will beat Michigan.

Have you read this thread? The overwhelming majority of posters seem prepared for a loss. The only way you're less hopeful that most of the posters in this thread/on this board is if your expecting the team to physically not show up in Ohio. In addition, there are so many analysts already picking the upset that I don't think anyone needs reminding. In the forest of pessimism and despair that this thread represents, thank you for that one little sapling of jocularity. It did make me laugh.

This thread is pretty pathetic. The Casualties are right about this place, methinks.
Enjoy the ride.

Hoyas will triumph. By 3 PM on Friday the tournament will already have had a day-plus full of buzzer beaters and upsets, and everyone will be ready for a nice, normal, predictable high-seed win .

This has to be the most joyless fanbase of a three seed in the history of the tournament. If you can't enjoy this week, what's the point of being a fan? If the Hoyas lose, there will be plenty of time to whine/complain/etc. Until then... Agreed. The CasualHoya types always bash HoyaTalk for being just a bunch of joyless old farts that take cynicism and negativity to a whole 'nother level...I tend to think they overstate their case in most instances, but wow, people, we follow this team 24/7/365 largely for the three weeks that are set out in front of us. Can we at least TRY to enjoy the fact that John III and his stellar group of young men have (1) outperformed expectations in a huge way; (2) been exemplary representatives of the U and (3) have a chance to make some noise in the tournament? Bingo. Spread a little sunshine, Brasky my friend.

If the Hoyas lose, there will be plenty of time to whine/complain/etc. Until then... Angst is what's for dinner in these parts. Also breakfast, lunch, brunch, second breakfast, elevensies, supper, afternoon tea, and late nite snacking. Belmont scares me, yes they do. But Belmont would scare me if their name was Iona, Lamar, or LUI Brooklyn. (OK, maybe not that last one). They are a tournament team. That means they are good enough to win, to play a great game against a better team. On the other hand, Belmont is nearly irrelevant. If this Georgetown team plays well, Belmont can't hang with them for more than one half. Georgetown can be that good when they are executing. Ask the Irish. If not........ As for how I feel, well, if I may quote the absolute worst movie in the history of cinema not named "Jennifer's Body": "I got that "excited/scared" feeling. Like 98% excited, 2% scared. Or maybe it's more....it could be 98% scared, 2% excited. But that's what makes it so intense, it's so....confused. I can't really figure it out."

Can we please not talk about how Belmont almost beat Duke? Duke is tremendously overrated. Dickie V said so (in a nice way) and I believe Bilas also said so during the NC game. Put Duke in the Big East and they finish 10th.

If the Hoyas cannot get up for Belmont--or any other team--after the past three seasons of early exits, then they will deserve to lose. There are few teams in the field this year that are not capable of pulling an upset. Who cares if the Belmont almost beat Duke at Duke! The Hoyas almost beat Syracuse at Syracuse. Coulda, shoulda, woulda. What does that mean? I think everyone knows that if the Hoyas play well they win. If they don't then let the bloodletting begin.

I agree about all of the crying in here. I can only imagine what the Chicken Littles in this thread would be saying if we were the 4 seed in the South instead of the 3 seed in the Midwest - which could easily have happened.
Given that I have no material or immaterial influence over the game and even less predictive ability, I feel quite confident in going out on a limb here - I guarantee a victory!

I'll be at work in DC Friday afternoon, where I don't get TruTV. Will the game locally be on another network? Or, will I be able to watch the telecast on the Internet - if so, how?

Still stand by my initial reaction, I think this is a great match-up for the Hoyas. Belmont's near upset of Duke was Duke's first game of the season and did you see how bad Duke's defense was to start the year? I put absolutely no stock in that game.
Our team is better top to bottom, we will force Belmont into challenged jumpers all game long and Henry will eat them alive in the paint. Even the version of the Hoyas that played in the BET is capable of beating Belmont by double-digits. If Clark and Hollis join the offense, forget about it.
The negative attitude on this board stinks. Last year's team has a very legitimate reason for its loss to VCU. There is no trend here. The Hoyas got busted against Ohio, but that was the only loss I feel was cringe worthy. This team is built so differently from previous versions, it is ridiculous to even compare. JT3 recruited the right players to succeed in March and they will show all the chicken littles on this board what they can do. You really think Clark or Henry are going to allow us to come out tepid or without energy on defense? Unless Blemont scorches the nets from 3 despite great defense, this game is ours for the taking.

Is Belmont underseeded? The answer is really "Who knows?"
Yeah their offense is awesome against crap but aside from a close loss to Duke with most of an offseason to prepare, they didn't beat nor play well against a good team.
Say what you want about VCU, they're a good team in a good conference that had gone to the Sweet 16 before last season.
Belmont is a good team in a LOW major conference who hasn't won anything ever.
Hoyas should win handily. Again, we play defense. That's the difference.

I smiled a little when I saw Pat Forde's pick of Detroit over Kansas in the 1st round (I refuse to call the play in games "1st round"). While I admit it is very unlikely to happen, KU teams under Bill Self seem to have the most trouble with "mid-major" programs in the NCAA tournament. With Detroit and possibly St. Mary's opening weekend opponents, I wouldn't be too surprised to not see them even make it to St. Louis.
2005 - 1st round loss to Bucknell 2006 - 1st round loss to Bradley 2007 - 3pt win over Southern Illinois in Sweet 16 2009 - 10pt first round win over North Dakota State 2010 - 2nd round loss (as #1 seed) to Northern Iowa 2011 - 10pt loss to VCU
