Here's where Pomeroy's study of 3PFG defense goes wrong - at least today - you have to be able to make cross-court passes, you have to be able to get the shot off without it being swatted away a la Whittington, you have to be able to pass the ball to the wing. Georgetown's defense defends those things. Belmont ended up at 37% and I still think the team did a fantastic job of defending the three. See this is where stats are meaningless. Belmont shot 37%, basically their season average, and took plenty of attempts (27) but anyone who watched the game knows the three point shot was ineffective for them. Sometimes I really think basketball is over-analyzed. Actually, Belmont shooting their season average is a datapoint in favor of Pomeroy's argument.

The middle of our zone was a mother#@$%^&* BEAR TRAP today. They couldn't do jack inside the arc. Great defense, Hoyas!! Right. We dominated inside.

Anyone who thought that goaltending call was questionable is an idiot.

Anyone who thought that goaltending call was questionable is an idiot. Clear on tv. Maybe not clear court side.

It sure is nice to get a win. It's also nice we don't have to hear all of our would-be coaches telling us how we could have won if ......
Great win, guys. Also, I thought Belmont was a pretty good team that wasvery well-coached by someone I would not want as our coach.

I disagree - being compared favorably or otherwise to Syracuse always sucks. Just say that was a great team and don't mention one of the few teams to beat us this year since you couldn't do the same. Lame

Didn't read any of the in-game posts, but someone lit a match under Jason's ass today. From the start, dude was running full speed and didn't slow down. Complete hustle out of him. And his stat line just shows what hustle like that can give to him.
Hopkins also I thought did very, very well. Otto obviously did great.
Nate was also nasty passing the ball throughout the game. Five assists for him AND Henry is crazy. Nate forced a bit too many passes, but I definitely can't complain. Had any of them worked it would have been an easy bucket.

Love the game. Love everything about it. Love our team. Love every member. I'm just love today. All love. That's how our awesome Hoyas should look. I agree with the 2007 comparisons to this team. There's just something about the way we are playing that evokes memories. And the way this Tourney seems to set up for us.
There is one thing I noticed regarding Hollis' scoring struggles. First, Hollis is still doing everything else -- the kid is playing strong D, getting rebounds, hustling, getting up and down the court, and moving the ball. Plus he's not killing us by taking and missing too many shots. He's just not as lethal as he was early in the year. It's unfortunate, but he's still putting in good minutes and others are picking up the scoring -- Greg & Otto especially.
Having said that, though, whoever pointed out in the Hollis thread that he was falling back on his free throws and was missing them because of that, I noticed the same thing on basically all his shots this game. He seemed to be falling away, usually shying from contact or the guy coming out on him, instead of elevating and using his height and length to get over the guy or get fouled. There was one shot late in the game he got from the left corner, looked like a 3 but was called a 2, where he was wide open and finally went straight up and he knocked it home. When you look early in the year, for instance on the game winning shot against Alabama, Hollis was very good at elevating straight up and releasing at the height of his jump. I hope someone is pointing this out to him, because it just takes time in the gym practicing to get back to that habit and not being concerned about the guy coming at him or getting blocked. He is taller, longer, and gets more elevation on his shot than almost anyone he'll face in college, he should only worry about a good stroke, not getting blocked. If Hollis can work it out a bit, this team will be very dangerous. I'm hoping that last shot might help straighten him out, give him confidence.

Hollis is also falling in love with that running jumper parallel to the base line, when he lands out of bounds afterwards probably like 10-15 feet out. It's cool when he makes it, but c'mon, just a bad shot choice.
