Official box score: Henry 1-12, Hopkins 1-8 (plus a blocked shot). Markel was 1-8 from 3. Defensive rebounding was actually average, but offensive rebounding was fantastic (Hoyas grabbed 16 of 31, 53%). Non-Joseph SU players were 2-13 from behind the arc. Well there it is. No matter what the refs called or did not call, you don't win when you miss layups. Almost all of Simms and Hopkins shots were within 4 feet of the basket.

The way talk on this board is going i'd be worried that they would have an inflated opinion of themselves. bottom line for me is they lost to a team whom never should have been within ten points of them.
The only thing they should be concerned with is taking care of business with each of the next 6 games and be ready to grab a double buy and get this team in New York on a friday or saturday night in 3 weeks. from here on in no excuses GUlook maybe we are that special team.

Hollis had 10 points and 10 rebounds and played great defense. I don't see how people can say he "didn't show up". He didn't force stupid shots and part of that was that nobody set screens to get him free outside the zone.
Otto was great.
Despite the loss, the Hoyas outrebounded Cuse 52-35 (20-12 on the offensive boards). When was the last time that happened?
This game will be great for the rematch at MSG where home cooking won't favor the Orangeboys as blatantly.

Just got back from the game and, of course, I'm disappointed in the outcome; however, I'm not dis-spirited. Syracuse went on an 8-0 spurt to open the 2nd half and completely energized the crowd, but our guys- especially the freshmen- held tough and didn't fold. I very much liked our defensive effort in the face of a really mediocre shooting performance. Its what kept us within striking distance and in position to steal a win. The Dome crowd was much more relieved, than happy, at the end of the game because for the first time I think they realize SUcks just might not be the formidable team they've all bought into. Now if we can get Tom Coughlin to address the team about FINISHING, and I mean plays within two feet of the basket.
As an aside, I noticed that Syracuse had 20 players dressed for the game, all of whom are listed in the game program. An aquaintance who sat near me pointed out that the reason so many kids are on the team is its Syracuse's way of getting around the new academic / graduation thresholds imposed by the NCAA. He claims they pad the team GPA with outstanding students that happen to also "walk-on" the team. I would hope the NCAA is smart enough to close this loophole, if true, but thought it spoke volumes to how one would expect Syracuse to conduct itself.
Show the team some love on Sunday to get them back on track.

Some more honesty from cuse fans: "I actually think we got a ton of questionable calls and 50/50 calls all went our way tonight. Supposedly that is what you should expect at home... " "I didn't like that they wouldn't allow the substitution at the end during the final GT timeout.......seems like form over substance to me. But I won't complaint. Also thought they missed some calls in our favor coming down the stretch. They seemed to be letting them play for the most part and that is usually a good thing. "

I was mostly okay with the non calls for Henry. I didn't think he deserved it. But, I agree with others that Melo has no business getting charge calls. Why does he deserve that respect. He isn't nimble or dominant, he just flopped.

Very important that the team doesn't get down themselves after this one. We need Ws in the next three games. By the way, we are going to be one tough out come tourney time. we played our worst game of the year and still beat you.....we win 9 out of 10 from you easy You keep telling yourselves that.

lets see the way we see it...we played our crappiest game of the year you guys played great..."shredded" our zone...most our guys are scrubs always have been...and we still won with basically one guy playing well.....hilarious It may have been a poor game for the Orange, but only those who watch with their hearts would say that the Hoyas played great. Our posts were disasters on offense. I think it would be fair to say that we played well in spurts and we played poorly in spurts.

There's a reason we lead the big east in defensive fg%.....But keep thinking it was everything you were doing

You were favored by 11 at home and needed overtime to beat us when we played 4 freshmen for long stretches of the game and we shot horribly overall as a team. You should bet your minimum wage earnings on your team come March.

Tough loss but liked what I saw out of the team - I know others are saying Cuse isn't as good as advertised but I had the opposite reaction - Cuse is pretty good, but guess what? So are we. Too bad we don't get them again in the regular season, definitely beatable.

I am glad to see a lot of optimistic posts in spite of the very frustrating game that we could have won. I did not expect us to win @ Syracuse - not because its an away game, but b/c we lack of a star player. Joseph, right now, is playing the leader role very well, kinda like how Jeff Green was in 2007. We are hoping that Otto can turn into that type of player in a year or two. Hollis Thompson was supposed to be that guy carrying us, but he disappeared in this game (kinda like Brandon Bowman Ver. 2 - hot or cold style) Every winning team has to have a star player to win that title. On the bright side, the nation has just recognized how good are freshmen are and they will be watching for them in the upcoming years. Definitely the best frosh class since Green/hibbert's class So you think is Best JTIII class? Better than Monroe/Sims/Clark? or Summers/Macklin? Freeman/Wright? If that's true, I'm pretty excited for the future. Especially considering we are bringing in a top 5 point guard from in next year's class.

I didn't see the game, but I had a feeling we could stay with them tonight. We did and almost beat them. I usually don't see replays of games we lost, but I might make an exception to this. Might.
