Official box score: Henry 1-12, Hopkins 1-8 (plus a blocked shot). Markel was 1-8 from 3. Defensive rebounding was actually average, but offensive rebounding was fantastic (Hoyas grabbed 16 of 31, 53%). Non-Joseph SU players were 2-13 from behind the arc.

Is Syracuse REALLY the second best team in the country? They look pretty average if you make them play a half-court game. Actually, really average if you do that. I thought before the game I wouldn't be disappointed at all with a loss here, but I am. Syracuse really isn't that good and we should have won this game. Yes we played hard, but we made A LOT of stupid mistakes and left a lot of points around the basket. Feel no better about this loss than I did about any of our other losses this season. Worse actually because it's Syracuse. It's February, no such this as a moral victory. Didn't even see you post when I wrote mine, but I totally agree. Then again, maybe we really are that good defensively. Still, this is not some amazing team.

Hopkins has the tools right now that Henry only developed as a Senior. They both need to learn how to finish though.

Clearly some good and bad on the floor for the Hoyas tonight, but overall I am VERY proud of the team. They went into the Dome.....many of them for the first time......and outplayed Syracuse for the majority of the game. We win that game if it is played anywhere BUT the Dome. Too bad this game was there, but the guys gained respect and the freshmen grew up a little bit more.
NOW JUST FINISH AROUND THE GOSH DARN RIM!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither team played well but I was happy to have a chance to win if one or two possessions went differently. I'm not sure Whitt and Mikael should have played so much despite the foul trouble for others. Jabril, Markel and Nate all looked good enough to get more run tonight. I'd love to see Cuse in the BE championship game.

I was so shocked at some of the none calls. Sometimes our players went flying and I just assumed the foul was called because it was so blatant. Then the play continued and I was flabbergasted. It was incredulous!
Another thing they did a pretty Edited poor job on the camera work too. Missed a georgetown basket and a couple of our free throws.
We were 10pts better than cuse but I guess we needed to be 14pts better. Oh well.
Least upset I've ever been with a loss to cuse. We earned a win tonight. We didn't get it, but we earned it.
I thought everyone played really well. Henry did a great job facilitating and if they didn't get him in foul trouble with bs calls and actually called fouls when he got hacked in the post we win by double digits.
Freshman showed up really well tonight. We're a very good team and we're going to win lots more games this season.

hate to pick on you and im probably responding cause im upset but there were playing zone the whole game, there were no backdoor cuts to be had. only dump downs to cutters from the high post feed... Our offense was outstanding in my opinion, Greg needs to look at some of the chances he had to shoot. Also Markel didn't really play in the 2nd half at all. Greg took his minutes. "Outstanding"? They shot 34% from the field, 25% on threes. Perhaps Markel didn't play in the second half because he jacked up 8 threes in the first half and made one (3-10 overall, one assist). And they scored only 61 points even though they had a nine rebound advantage on the offensive glass (and a 19 rebound edge overall). I'm talking about getting the shots we needed to get, i could care less about shooting percentages. Henry should have been 7-11 not 1-11. We ran a GREAT zone offense...the only thing we didn't do was look opposite after the ball got in the middle....I'm not looking at numbers in terms of how I'm seeing things. I was happy that we didn't jack a lot of 3's early in the clock. Markel got into that early in the 1st half but we got out of it till Jason did it late. But Greg needs to be a threat out there, he had some open 3's he didn't take that I felt hurt us. But in terms of getting inside the zone and getting some chances we did that and did it often. Otto got a lot of short corner J's. Hopkins and Sims got one-on-one in the post with the ball reversal, what else do you want??? Jt3 drew it up perfectly the guys executed everything but making the shots. I was more picking on the fact of the back cuts thing. there are no backcuts except baseline when the ball is in the middle that you can even get against a 2-3...and we weren't really looking for it.

Waiters, Melo, and Jospeh can play to one degree or another. The other guys - Scoop, Triche, etc. - are scrubs. Always were. Against a half decent defender they can't get looks.

Watching the end of that game just makes me furious. The nation is definitely on our side with the awful calls down the stretch, but we still should have won. Terrible defense by Whittington on the game winning 3. Learn from it and play better so that the refs aren't in a position to decide the outcome.

Why did markel not play for most of the second half? Because he was a liability on defense Jordine and Waiters were killing him on the high pick and getting into the middle of the zone. he was directly responsible for Henry getting his 4th foul by not fighting trough a screen. Whittington replaced him and started fighting through the pick. Also the guy never moves the defense with his dribble, he is suppose to be a PG. The Hoya big men put the ball on the floor in a threatening move more than he does. The guy acts like he is afraid that the ball will be taken away from him if he tries to dribble in the middle. John Wall did not have a great penetrating dribble but he penetrated the middle. Starks is useless unless he is hittting over 50 percent from 3 point land.

It was a tough loss but the Hoyas proved they're a tougher team than most in America expected. The guys played hard and they played together; they've got a lot of wins still to come.

OK, trying to shrug off the denied entry for Hollis into the game. Game thoughts:
I thought we did a really good job defensively all night. It took a career night shooting the ball from Joseph to them to beat us in overtime. At home. Did he have a couple of open looks? Sure. But I'd rather give those up than get beat repeatedly in the paint like we did against Pitt. I thought we did a great job with our transition defense all night and allowed very few run outs after turnovers or misses. That was a huge positive. JTIII should be hammering home the point that despite the officiating and poor perimeter shooting, we were in this until the very end because of our defense.
Those of you who pointed out Otto as being a potential zone buster at the foul line were absolutely right. His mid-range game was on tonight, and he did a great job with his decision making in terms of knowing when to take the 15 footer and when to kick it back out or find someone else down on the block. In future years when he becomes even more assertive on the offensive end, he's going to be a force if he can continue to hit that shot and develop a consistent 3 point shot.
The frosh had an extremely strong game overall. When Clark picked up his 3rd foul I was wondering if Jabril would be up for the challenge. He gave us some huge minutes tonight. Greg's defense overall was strong tonight as well. Contributed on the boards and had some huge blocks.
Although he didn't play many minutes, I thought Lubick really gave us a lift when he was in there. Hit the boards hard, made some hustle plays and was not a liability on the floor.
In a game where there is really very little margin for error, Sims was the margin. He was completely owned under the rim all night and was unready mentally to play the game as physical as he needed to be in order to compete. That's a shame.
He had a bad turnover at the end, but Clark provided the leadership that Hollis could not. Hit some enormous contested threes coming down the stretch and seemed to be the our only guard willing to take a perimeter shot in the 2nd half. We really need Hollis to have the same mentality as Jason does. If your team counts on you to provide offense, you can't always wait until you're wide open to take a shot, especially when the shot clock is winding down. Hollis hit some tough contested shots coming down the stretch in the Marquette game. He needs to be willing and able to do this on a consistent basis if we are to take the next step this year.

I'm proud of our guys. We're on at all and we win going away. I feel like an a-hole for comparing the foul calls but it was glaring. I'm not scared of the Orange at all. Would love to see them again on a neutral floor. We have a higher ceiling than they do. Whit getting the minutes he did was a coaching error today. A few weeks from now, it may not be. Greg needs to find his confidence. I thought with the attempt at the dunk would change his attitude. It didn't. His unwillingness to pull the trigger on the offensive end in the second was to our detriment. That said, he did enough in the way of positive things defensively and rebounding to warrant a good portion of the minutes he did get. But he hurt us offensively. Watching the pass fake to his left and then the pass to his right was painful after a while when the defender was giving him a ridiculous amount of space to guard against the pass to the key. He drops even 2 3's on that D in the second half and it's an entirely different game in terms of opening up that middle and cuts to the hoop.
Bunnies, bunnies, bunnies. Jeez. Need to convert. I love what Hopkins offered tonight. Loved it in terms of his potential. I'll take this loss willingly if those extra minutes pay the dividends I think they will. If Cuse is #2 in the country, I love our chances even more than I thought I did.

All of that said, the most emphatic part of my post is that I'm proud as all get out of our guys. Defense was great. The length on length matchup was much to our favor. Nice game Hoyas! Heads up and on to the next one. I hope we get to smack them in the BE tourney.....

Great defense overall tonight.
We didn't play perfect there were plenty of mistakes to tighten up and fix.
Joseph was 6-11 from 3. Ridiculous for a 33.7% 3pt shooter. Plenty of them from pretty deep too.
Cuse needed the Refs and a fair bit of luck to win this game. Jardine should be scared of this team now because we're a better team and we showed it to him tonight and he and the rest of cuse should be thanking their lucky stars they stole this win.

Greg has some 3's he could have taken that were open, also space enough to get into a gap...shoot a pull-up or kick back out to someone open, he was content moving the ball which at least he was moving it quickly.
