i am sorry but henry cost us this game. i agree he got bumped and should have gone to the line a couple times at the end but he was beyond terrible all game. he and hopkins were a combined 2-18 and that is inexcusable. the hoyas handed those bunch of scrubs this game. I agree Henry has to finish something, even if he does get fouled. You are not going to get those calls on the road. Are we really surprised, henry has had that problem all season. He is not a finisher. I am not too disappointed in Hopkins. I would expect a little trouble at the rim against Melo from him. What I do take heart in is Hopkins ability to move within the offense so well and put himself in position to finish. The next 3 years are going to fun with this group. if you go up strong, you force refs to make the calls. Like we all said, Henry needs to head fake and drive on Melo, not shoot jumpers. Even if we miss a dunk every once in a while, it's still worth going strong.

Melo was still moving, he was up on his toes when he flopped.

Re: Melo and his charges -- as someone else said, he is going to fit in great with Duke and the ACC. Not even getting into whether the calls were good or bad, I am just simply in awe that such a huge dude is down there flopping and actually getting the calls. Unbelievable.

Is there any reasonable explanation as to why Hollis couldn't check in? Honestly. Yes - he's the Hoya's best clutch shooter from three. It's not that difficult to figure out.

Everyone is complaining about the call. Henry stunk it up tonight. He is looking for the foul instead of try to score. The last shot was terrible. deleted I beginning to see more and more why JTIII had him on the bench for 3 years like he did. Henry in not consistent.

BS....refs stole it. I have no problem if the calls went both ways, but c'mon Cuse had home cooking. That said, love this team and the effort and length. III has these guys buying in. Need one more big, but Mikael, other than the missed bunnies, battled. Henry pulled a Hollis vs. Temple on that drive, but got fouled and it wasn't called. Oh well, on to the next.

Here is the substitution rule from the official NCAA publication: Art. 3. Substitutions during a timeout must report to or be in position to report to the official scorer before the warning horn. Substitutions shall not be permitted after the warning horn. Exception: Rule 3-4.16. Art. 6. Substitutions shall not be permitted when the game clock has been stopped after successful field goals in the last 59.9 seconds of the second half or any extra period and before the clock has been properly started except for the following: a. Those substitutions permitted by rule including, but not limited to, injury, blood, violation, foul, disqualification, timeout, or for a lost, displaced or irritated contact lens or displaced eyeglasses. [Exception]Art. 16. An immediate substitute shall be required when a timeout has been granted for a player who is injured, bleeding, has a blood-saturated uniform, (women) a lost, irritated or displaced contact lens and that player is not ready to resume play after the final horn that indicates the expiration of the timeout. The opponents shall be permitted to counter with a substitution. www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/BR11.pdfSo the rule is valid but was Hollis in violation? No argument about selective enforcement if he was.

Another blatant ref job was the running start over the back knock the Hoya off the court offensive rebound that wasn't called when Cuse tied the game. Generally every time Georgetown had a chance to take a two possession lead Syracuse was bailed out by the refs.

Far as officiating goes, I thought the first 2 minutes on the 2nd half we're as crucial as any. block call on Henry (that certainly looked like he draw a charge) and then saying he was fouled on the floor. Proud of the team. They will be better for this. This. That was a 4 point swing. In a game where I don't think either team had a lead of more than 6 all night, that's huge. Melo got away with at least 2 or 3 fouls that could've saddled him with 3 fouls at some point late in the 1st half or early in the 2nd. He's not good enough to be getting special treatment.

Still a good effort -- the loss will be a good motivator for the home stretch, and the frosh held their own except for some defensive lapses at the end. But Henry is still an extremely raw offensive player, Markel is a shot-first point guard who doesn't hit shots, and they don't have enough ballhandlers who can create shots for others -- the offense stagnates in a hurry if the backdoor stuff isn't there. hate to pick on you and im probably responding cause im upset but there were playing zone the whole game, there were no backdoor cuts to be had. only dump downs to cutters from the high post feed... Our offense was outstanding in my opinion, Greg needs to look at some of the chances he had to shoot. Also Markel didn't really play in the 2nd half at all. Greg took his minutes. "Outstanding"? They shot 34% from the field, 25% on threes. Perhaps Markel didn't play in the second half because he jacked up 8 threes in the first half and made one (3-10 overall, one assist). And they scored only 61 points even though they had a nine rebound advantage on the offensive glass (and a 19 rebound edge overall).

Disappointing loss. Some thoughts, few if any original: 1. Played well enough to win. Frankly, I thought overall we had the better game, which is a good accomplishment on the road against the #2 team. 2. The charge calls on the Hoyas were for the most part disappointingly accurate, but they were one-sided. Henry's third foul early in the second half is a good example of that-he went straight up, got run into, and they called it a block. That's just wrong. 3. Too much time on the court with only one player with 3-point range. I'd love it if either Greg or Otto had that range, but neither does right now. 4. Rebounding was fantastic. I thought it'd be good-we're good on D, they're bad on D-but I'm pretty sure was even better than I expected. 5. If Kris Joseph is cold from distance, we win anyway. 6. Lights-out defensive at the end of regulation. We don't make it to overtime if we don't shut this down. 7. I've accepted Henry making contested shots at the rim is more or less a pipe dream, but it was disappointing Hopkins couldn't do better on his tips. 8. I like our chances in a rematch.

Yeah our offense was FAR from outstanding. Dumb threes jacked up by Markel way too early in the shot clock. Defense is the calling card for this squad. They did a great job on defense for the most part and obviously the offensive rebounding was awesome. If they had actually looked for good shots on a few more possessions rather than rushing bad looks...well, you know.

You are not going to win games when your two centers shoot 2-18 and (if I remember correctly) don't block a single shot.
On the other hand, Hopkins had more points and rebounds than Christmas.
And Otto is going to make more money than anyone on that court tonight.

Was Henry really 1 for 12? wow. Those are Julian Vaughn at the end of last season numbers.

Actually it was at least a 5 point swing. They made the and one free throw and then stole the inbounds for another quick bucket. Potentially a 7 or 8 pt swing

Is Syracuse REALLY the second best team in the country? They look pretty average if you make them play a half-court game. Actually, really average if you do that. I thought before the game I wouldn't be disappointed at all with a loss here, but I am. Syracuse really isn't that good and we should have won this game. Yes we played hard, but we made A LOT of stupid mistakes and left a lot of points around the basket. Feel no better about this loss than I did about any of our other losses this season. Worse actually because it's Syracuse. It's February, no such this as a moral victory.

I think we put to bed the notion that this is some special Syracuse team. Analysts talking about how they wouldnt lose in the regular season; how they match up with Kentucky in a national championship. Puh-lease. what about this depth they have? I saw nothing. IMO, we beat them in the stretches where benches were on the court. Please stop the nonsense.

Very important that the team doesn't get down themselves after this one. We need Ws in the next three games.
By the way, we are going to be one tough out come tourney time.
