Gibbs out will make things tough on Pitt as they travel to WVU (tonight) and Nova this week. I'd imagine they'll drop one, though not likely both, without him.

IF they drop both, the race for number 1 in the conference is wide open, but if they win both, it potentially helps the Hoyas' chances for a top-4 seed, by dropping Nova down to the four-loss column (or five if they drop one at the RAC on Wednesday -- after a lot of close calls, I think Rutgers is eventually going to break through against somebody).
I posted this list in the Polls thread, but it probably works here, too. Huge BIG EAST games ahead this week:
Pitt @ WVU Gtown @ Cuse L'ville @ ND UConn @ SJU (wouldn't be surprised by a Johnnies bounceback here) Pitt @ Nova Cuse @ L'ville Marquette @ G'town
And that list of games doesn't even include SJU@Cincy, or the number of road games that upper-level BE teams are playing against the bottom of the conference (Nova @ Rutgers, Providence @ UConn).
Losses will be handed out in the BIG EAST this week. If the Hoyas can manage to split this week's games, or better yet, to win both, they'll be in solid position heading down the stretch.

Refs really impacting this game. But still an entertaining game that will come down to the wire.

We want Pitt to win. No way we can make up 4 games on them (3 plus the tiebreaker) so better to concede the championship to them and hope for second place while they knock off our competition.

Big win for Pitt. A WVU loss is good for Georgetown when all is said and done for Big East tiebreakers.

I think that was debatable before this game as we didn't know how good they would be with out gibbs and how long he would be out. They could've easily lost 6 more games if he was out the rest of the regular season as the had to go @ WV @ Nova @ St. Johns @louisville and host WV and Nova. Now seeing that they're still very good with out him I agree and hope they take out Nova on saturday. Now it would be best if they won out for us.

I'm not much for regular season titles, I want to win in NY. I'm all for whatever makes that easier, which is probably for Pitt to TCOB against Nova and L'ville. Should be interesting to see when Gibbs returns in actuality. In all likelihood, they're a lock for Top-4, and I'm sure Dixon cares more about the byes than on being the #1 seed. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gibbs out until March to rest up and let Dixon see how deep his bench contributions can go come crunch time.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Gibbs out until March to rest up and let Dixon see how deep his bench contributions can go come crunch time. I used to think that way, but probably, if truth be told, it was really that deep down inside, I knew that the likelihood of beating Kentucky in a 16 game season was almost impossible. It would be more likely that we could get hot at the right time and win three games and maybe even avoid Kentucky, if someone else knocked out Kentucky. But I think I was wrong. Winning the regular season title is great. That being said, winning the tourney does put you at a peak going into the big dance. But overall, I think a regular season title -- especially of the magnitude of the BE, is certainly something to hang your hat on. In a comparison that will likely earn me some barbs from some of you, it is kind of like the way many of us down here view the SEC football championship in Atlanta -- it's the real world's heavyweight championship!

Regular season title is certainly more of an accomplishment than a tournament title and represents the better team in my opinion. Doing it over the course of the season is more impressive than getting hot for 3 games. Don't get me wrong winning the BET is a huge accomplishment as well, but regular season title is certainly bigger.
