That front end miss by Theodore was one of the plays of the game. I think he shoots over 80% from the line. It's like the opposite of Mazzula always coming in and shooting well above his average from the line against the Hoyas.

Sadly,
this message board has regressed into one of the most uncomfortable places in America. I've posted on here for five years, and been a part of many an argument, but this is just sad.
I thought this team leaped a hurdle tonight, fought back when it could've packed up. But much like my ex girlfriend, all we do is complain.
Many of our "fans" need to take a look in the mirror. There are plenty of times that criticism is warranted. Tonight is not one of them. This team fought hard, fought back, scored on its last 11 possessions and one a road game in the Big East. It's just sad to read some of the slop on this thread tonight. Hurtful, actually. I love this team, and don't have a blind eye to our flaws. However, when we gut out a win like tonight, that effort should be matched by us....we simply aren't supporting this team nearly enough this season.

There is definitely some of that here, but I respectfully disagree with you guys. There is nothing wrong for criticizing the team for that defensive performance. I don't need to summarize it, others have done a good job of it. It was atrocious. That being said, i would never say there is such a thing as a bad win, or that any team in America, Pitt and Syracuse included, cant have a game where they ONLY beat Seton Hall on the road by a few points. A win is a win for sure, but I dont have really good feelings about this team winning more than 5-6 more games this season. They are overmatched on defense, and it's not going to get any easier. Even a team like Marquette has gotten bigger and stronger. Crowder is going to abuse us.

And now here come the "why can't we criticize here?" rebuttals. Well I call BS on that. No one here gets annoyed with criticisms of the performance. We did play crappy defense last night - among other things. But there are those who can't stop there and proceed to the ridiculous hyperboles of "we don't have athletes/Big East caliber players" or "our season is going to suck," or "JTIII is crazy/a bad coach/worse than mayonnaise." Seriously? These are credible arguments? All those people suck and I have no problem saying it. All you want to do it bitch. What a miserable way to go through life. Well, be miserable somewhere else. Having said all of that, I really hope we can find a way to get Vee Sanford some more minutes. If not, JTIII is worse than mayonnaise.

Crowder is going to abuse us. Just like the SH bigs but we won! i am not trying to start an argument because I hear what you are saying. But, we absolutely won that game because of our offense and because Theodore missed the 1 and 1 and Pope fouled out. I have gone on record several times in saying I think our offense is very, very good. It's the best defense we have quite frankly. If we are scoring at an efficient pace, teams cant afford to play 25 seconds of offense against us. But, and this is just a fact, we cannot play 25 seconds of defense against any team in the Big East. Period. It is what it is.

A win is a win -- especially when it's against a hungry opponent at their home court in the Big East when the team is struggling to get out of a slump.
Big props to the players and coaches for staying tough and battling back from that 19-2 Hall run down 6 with 3 mins to go. THAT'S Hoya basketball: we find a way to win, even if it ain't pretty. Lots of hustle last night. Really good to see.
Austin was amazing. He's baaaaaaaaack.

Just being sarcastically snotty - most everybody has good points but saying someone is going to abuse us before we play them adds what to the discussion?

And now here come the "why can't we criticize here" rebuttals. Always my favorite argument. I can criticize the team, but I'm annoyed when someone criticizes me criticizing the team. Until you are banned, it's all just people talking, people.

Third post in a row, but that's it.
That was some epically bad transition defense, wasn't it? I mean, we gave up 17 fast break points. Forget no one staying in front of their man -- just get back in transition and we probably win by 10+.

There's just no getting around it.

Daytona, I agree with the sentiment but I think it's fine to point out the flaws this team has. I think threads such as "Where does this game rate?" are nonsense. Having said that, if this team has any aspirations to make a run in the tourney (because they will make the tourney), they have serious work to put in.
The defense is mind-boggling to me. I was sitting at the game and the guys kept teasing me because they would cut the 7 pt Seton Hall lead to 5 or 3 and then they could never get a stop. To be honest, at the end, we were also lucky because one of Theodore's (I believe it was Theodore), 3s went in and out and that might have been the difference between a W and an L. We didn't really get any big stops down the stretch. It's great if our offense is shooting over 50% but if you can't get stops, you aren't going to win games. How can we have one of the best shooting percentages in the country (third now) and have so much trouble pulling out wins?
It's great that Austin has found his groove again. I would still like him to be even more aggressive (same sentiment with Hollis - also, his teammates should look for him more). Chris still needs to tone it down (I cringed when he went for that 1 on 2 at the end of the game). But Chris was so pumped after the game was over (really nice to see). He was high-fiving and encouraging his teammates. Good to see. Just shows these guys are giving it their all.
I loved the heart that Julian showed last night but one criticism I have is that he really got abused in the second half by Robinson going left on him. This is as much III's fault for not adjusting. How many plays in a row did Seton Hall run the same thing for Robinson and there was no adjustment? Also, JuJu still needs to go up harder. Two of his buckets were "ballerina" lay ups. He should be dunking the ball.
III's use (or non-use) of timeouts is still puzzling to me...moving on.
Markel needs to spend the summer in the gym working on his jump shot but I love his hustle. He will be a good one.
What happened to Clark's outside shot!?!?!
To add to the athleticism/recruiting discussion, as I was leaving the game, two Seton Hall fans were discussing the game. The conversation went something along these lines, "Yeah, I wasn't that impressed with Georgetown tonight. They're usually a bigger squad." He then adds, "now Cuse, they are athletic. Last time I saw Cuse play Seton Hall, I knew from the warm ups we were going to lose because Cuse's players were twice the size of ours and much more athletic than us".
I expect us to beat St. John's and be back at .500. The guys will be really pumped for this one.

Just being sarcastically snotty - most everybody has good points but saying someone is going to abuse us before we play them adds what to the discussion? I think it was pretty relevant to my point. We are worried going forward. As this is a message board for the purpose of discussing the team, that is what people are going to harp on. People want to know why we are concerned about the defense, well, it's because we still have to play Syracuse twice, Nova, Lville, Marquette, Cincy twice and UConn. I am worried. I am not sure where are going to get 5 more wins. I hope everyone comes out for all our homes games, we need home crowd support badly. i will be there.

So I watched the game last night and for all the complaining about the lack of TO usage, I thought the 19-2 run happened without a timeout.
Everyone knows it didn't, right?
I mean, we scored the first bucket, and went up 9. Then Seton Hall went on a 10-3 run according to the PBP, leading to a GU timeout still up 2.
BTW, this timeout occurred at 8-0 in the 19-2 run.
Then we scored our 2. And went to a media timeout.
Then an 11-0 run (the last of the 19-2 run) and another timeout.
I'm not saying you couldn't call another one in there. But there were two timeouts within the run itself -- one called by Thompson -- and he also made some substitutions (for two guys who took quick threes) before calling the last one.
I find it funny no one has mentioned the TO at 8-0. I'm not saying the man's perfect, but can anyone at least acknowledge this point and attempt to understand what he might have been thinking?
