We really needed that win tonight and maybe they can get back on track.Big East or not this team should be alot better than what they are.A win is a win thow and I'll take that any time. I just hope they can get it together and play up to their potential.

For instance here is what our team should look like most years 1) Jon Wallace nonathletic type at 1 is ok if you have other guys surrounding that can make up for his shortcomings mainly defense. 2) Think 6-4 quick athletic kid like (old schooler wont like this name but so what) Clint McDaniel...Thomas Hill Type 3) A Hollis type who can stick a 3 and put the ball on the ground. He also must be quick and be our defensive ace along with our 2 4) Sweetney, Corliss Williamson type...6-8 and strong...star of the team. Aggressive and physical. 5) A Onawaku type works so does a Jarvis Varnado...Ken Johnson from Ohio St...quick leaper whose main thing is rebounding, put backs and blocks....Onawaku is a physical space eater that every team needs
Bench
1) Backup guard that is a dead eye shooter....think Lee Humphrey 2) Physical big...think Don Reid 3) Swing man that can play the 2 and 3....athletic kid.....6-7 long arms...quick feet....think Todd Burgan

OK... so if we have a serviceable point and an All-BE team for the rest, we'll be OK. GENIUS! Why didn't anyone else come up with this?

This game had me stressed out ... A loss would've been really bad. Ugly Win .. but I'll take it. Esp. on the road. I sat Behind Austins family and a few other Hoya fans and relatives. Shout Out to Jahidi "DAWG MASK" Hoya .. great to see you BROTHER! .. I also saw GIGI and MEGAFAN from a distance. I had my kids with me so I didn't travel to the other side to at least have a beer with you. I'm going to save that for the B.E.T ... CAFE31 ! ON TO THE NEXT ..

Love JT3? That's what you're going with now? Interesting switch.

Yes until the next game when he is terrible and over matched. Your view is myopic dear lad.....Seton Hall is not who we are striving to be. To compete at the highest level we need better players. Vaughn is hit and miss...not his fault it is because he is not that good at this level.

Bronxie loves his mother so if she is doing something I feel is incorrect I will let her know. 20-23 speaks volumes...explain it away? Love JT3? That's what you're going with now? Interesting switch.

You are truly foolish...how old are you? When I mention these players I mean physically not the actual players. Why do I have to explain that to a grown man? OK... so if we have a serviceable point and an All-BE team for the rest, we'll be OK. GENIUS! Why didn't anyone else come up with this?

not sure recruiting talent says the story. Texas A&M, Wisconsin etc all are doing more with less recruited talent than the Hoyas. Wright and Freeman were all americans, and Sims was ranked pretty high (and Vaughn as high as guys on those team). Plus throw in Monroe who left early. Its been more an issue of depth (Monroe yrs) and the players not playing smart (Clark) learning to play a position (Chris as PG) and just plain underachieving/not developing quickly (Sims). III went out a got Vaughn, got Monroe, and decent guys like a Hollis. He def gave guys like Benimon a schollie since we missed out on recruits, and should have had more big man depth perhaps, but overall - the talent has been there just execution has been underwhelming recently.

I have been up in arms about JT3 recruiting nonathletic players for about 4 years. We are slow and small which is a bad combo. We also are a passive team (LIKE JT3) that does not get after it on D or on the boards. This has been happening for years. JT3 needs to change his recruiting strategy. Enough with playing guys out of position. We need a post up presence ala Sweetney. A skilled wide body that demands a double team. Also our guards and wings need to be in the mold of 6-4 to 6-7 with long limbs and slender bodies who can play D and create for themselves. I believe Adams and Jabril satisfy two of the types of players you're looking for.

To show you what I have been saying for years
Re: train wreck: athletic players, unathletic offe « Result #488 on Mar 11, 2009, 8:21am » This team as a whole is nonathletic. I have been saying that for a while. Our major deficiencies were magnified because we lacked athletes. #23 on St Johns was the best athlete on the court and would start at Gtown. Down low Burrell is not as skilled as Monroe but he is stronger and more athletic than Monroe. Also Boothe although not very skilled was the quickest player on the court. Keep in mind I was court side for both STJ's losses.
JT3 has to change his recruiting practices. I will take a Kemba Walker type athlete over a Chris Wright any day.

Another one
Re: What needs to happen today and in the future « Result #512 on Feb 1, 2009, 5:16am » Wright is not a great athlete. His is slow footed on D and struggles to finish around the rim. He is not the athlete that Kemba Walker or Flynn are. Sapp is a poor athlete and so is Freeman. Clark is long armed but has shown nothing on defense yet. Like I said we miss Rivers on D.

Bronx, what you say might be true, but it's necessarily not going to be fixed this year. Rusty is correct though, and many other posters (RDF and id to name two) have pointed out that there is good reason to believe that some of what you're saying needs to be changed is being changed. Next year we will certainly be big with Henry, Nate, Moses, Adams, Hopkins as our bigs, two of which are very big (Moses, Adams) and one of which at least has a great deal of fight in him (Nate). The year after we have another 4 in Bolden plus we're still going after guys like Ochefu. Next year, if we get run out of Aaron and Trawick, we'll improve our athleticism on the perimeter as well, and Vee will get more minutes so we'll get more of a defensive presence out of him as well. Plus numerous posters who have watched him talk about Trawick as being an extremely aggressive player, so that's another change.

Just finished watching the game (long night at work)
PLEASE STOP PUTTING BENIMON IN THE GAME. HE IS VERY VERY BAD AT BASKETBALL. HE SHOULD NEVER BE IN THE GAME, EVER.
Our defense is crap, but hopefully these 7 days off can help out. A win is a win, so I'll take it--but I get it--we shouldn't be in tight games with a not so very good team. Chris and Austin looked good. Let's get some revenge on SJU and make a run.

How do you prove that this is a down year in college basketball without waiting ten years and looking back?
Big East is exciting this year and we are close to where most expected preseason, record wise. I just want improvement game over game at this point.
I heard the team looked tired today. For those that were able to see it does that mean exhausted, lazy, or slow? I guess none of the above is an answer too.

Take the W and run because that game was a step in wrong direction. Wow was that some gross defensive basketball. From allowing Seton Hall to penetrate the zone like it was a walkthrough to getting caught on crossmatches (Julian guarding Theodore, Wright on Robinson) so many times it makes you question the ability of the players to figure out you can stick to your guy and not switch!
III has a ton of work to do in the week leading up to SJU game. This was more DePaul like then Rutgers. Sloppy turnovers, lacksidasical defense, no shots out of timeouts, not understanding the game of the opposing players they were defending, etc......just painful to watch and really thought the season was over if they lost this game--and they saved season. So that alone makes me temporarily happy.
Does the team understand defensive basketball? The object of team defense? Stopping the ball? Balancing the floor after a shot? Strengths/weaknesses of the opposing team? It sure as hell doesn't look like it. Georgetown gave up so much penetration it looked like a regular team playing a wheelchair team-that had flat tires. Disgusting. Nobody was shading to weakhand. Crowding guys who blow by them repeatedly, not helping on defense, etc.......just painful/sickening, you name it.
Can someone GRAB THE BALL. The "tip rebounds" are just so frustrating. Only time Hoyas want to grab the rebound is when they have 3 guys fighting for it off a missed FT with Seton Hall or insert team retreating to defensive end. Communicate.
Benimon--After a missed layup--it's time to visit Splinterland next to Human Cyborg Mike Brennan--aka MB-B2. Emotionless. Does he blink? Believe he's programmed to walk to III in the pre timeout meeting of minds and that's it.
Benimon--That was an old man pickup game level performance tonight. Painful to watch and even more painful to team. He just didn't have it--so any minutes past the inital 1 were too many.
Henry Sims was visiting "Hank--The Early Years" land and that cannot happen. He stunk, wasn't into the game, and just didn't seem engaged at a level that is required for the team to be at it's best.
Lubick--has to take some of those open shots--just to make sure the court/cutters are able to keep moving--because if not--they'll just play off him and it clogs things up. Rebound off Hollis missed FT was huge hoop and effort is always there with Nate-but need him to be a bit more aggressive on offensive end which will help the team/his confidence.
Vaughn--great start, stinky 2nd Half beginning, ended strong. Showed some toughness by returning from a nasty looking fall and getting leg pinned under Herb Pope. One of the most unpredictable players in Hoya history. He can get ball in same spot and hit 2/3 shots in a row and then disappear and airball a layup attempt and then he can miss 3 shots, look like a total stiff and then have a 2 min span where he dominates a game. Was nervous that play where hollis dropped pass to him for potential 3pt play and ended up with 1 pt off missed shot/1FT was a killer.
Hollis--best player not named Freeman on court tonight for Hoyas. Loved the drive/dish to Julian and his efficiency-just want him to be more assertive in midrange area-but he is always hustling and battling against bigger/stronger players. His heads up pass to Freeman after the save from Julian got the break going. Needs to quit reaching on defense. Cheap fouls. Too pretty of a stroke from line to be missing as much as he does too.
Wright--Liked his mentality on offensive end--and lost my dinner watching him play defense. Made some big FT's and didn't get discouraged outwardly on the court. Has to get on himself/teammates for the sloppy unforced turnovers. That has to end moving forward or they can't beat the better teams they'll be facing.
Clark--ugly game all around. Shouldn't have gotten as much run as he did--but that's how it unfolds. III does his thing (I disagree with it) but he yanks certain guys and others get to play no matter how much they are off/struggling. This wasn't a night Jason should've been in for 30+ minutes.
Freeman--found his stroke--wish we'd see more shots fired when he's on like this--but take what comes and helped the team. Always confident with him at FT line near end--more then anyone else on team. Gotta just do what he does well which is score and loved his sweet pass to Wright underneath for easy 2. Spanarkle was spot on about him and NBA--but who cares--his job is to be a great college player right now.
Starks--nice hustle, good steals/scrapping, but offensively he seems more steady when Hoyas slow things down then when they are move in transition or get pressed. Has to improve his ball handling and realize a press is something any great guard covets seeing--because it's an opportunity to get a lot of easy hoops for teammates/yourself. Think he and vee will provide better defense next year--then again--I believe Betty White and Hugh Hefner could move quicker on defense right now then hoyas upperclassmen.
Sad to see that Hoyas fell for the spread/matchup offense Hall used--which is what they'll see next week with SJU coming to town. They looked for mismatch/exploited it and Theodore got wherever he wanted. Biggest aid to Hoyas late was him missing front end and then his wide open 3 rimming in/out. Wasn't a stop--was luck. Hoyas were due--so no complaints but that won't bode well moving forward.
Would love to see Hoyas get one of the loose balls once in a while. Being that I became a fan during Pops tenure--this was a staple and almost guarantee if there was a loose ball--Hoyas would get anything that was on ground/up for grabs. Now--it's more of a hope the opponents don't score after they get the ball-which is inevitable.
15th in Big East in turnovers. Guard oriented team that sloppy? No Excuse. Just none. So frustrated by that. If that doesn't tighten up as season progresses they'll not reach any goals they have. It's correctible and just takes concentration which I'd like to think these guys are focused on doing--since they've only got this shot to finish up strong (1 more year for Jason/Henry). Why not do so in a clean manner with strong care/value of the ball and working their butts off on defensive end?
This long "break" couldn't come at a better time--but thank goodness they won the game. Just hope III treats practice like they lost--because they'll lose if they play like they did last night. Time to improve/work harder then ever.
