Watching our defense is painful.
How good would Gene Smith look on this team? And yes, I don't mean a young version, I mean the 48 year old Gene Smith.

Pitt plays hard every night much like Duke. That is why they win all the time. We do not play hard every night that is why we struggle. Among other things like poor recruiting.
We have too many players in our rotation who are not high level Big East players namely....Vaughn Dunbar...Henry Slims...BennyMan....

Good tie in with the Redskins. People are complaining that we could only eek out a win against a "celler dweller" like the Hall. Well, even celler dwellers have their days. As proof, the Skins beat both Green Bay and Chicago this year, who happen to be playing each other for the right to go the the Super Bowl.
There is plenty of season to go. Freeman is back, Wright was solid and Jason can't keep missing like he has. There are lots of good signs here... don't miss them while you are staring at the problems that remain.
No doubt that we had some possessions where we should have played better D but don't discount the fact that Seton Hall played well. That's really what I'm saying.

I question whether the BE is as good as believed this year. Any year that Pitt is the leading contender in the conference is a bad year IMO. They're good for 2 rounds at best this year IMO. Who in America is better than Pitt? I'd put them up against anyone. There the best team if you want a guaranteed sweet 16 team and done. It seems like they never make that big run. Ok 2009 yeah I remember, but thats it.

It doesnt change the fact that they are a very good team, or that this might be the deepest BE ever. Bad year for us to have no post presence and a bad defense.

Just back from the game with two fellow hoyas. I basically gave up after that 19-2 run and could not stop thinking about a wasted season. But the boys came back and locked down in the final 3 minutes. They did not fold it up and let that run dribble into a double digit lead. They bided their time and made the most crucial plays of the game. Austin is a stud. Chris played fairly well and Julian has the tools I just wish he could execute better and also have a companion that could help him out down low. Henry looked lost, and keep shooting Hollis!
Like I said before this game, SHU had more talent than RU, especially with Hazell back. You could see it especially on their offense and to get this comeback win on the road was important and big. The defense will need some re-tooling over this week off, but it will be much easier going into the week off 3-4 instead of 2-5. You always need wins like this and on the road they are even more important.

As an addendum, if anyone played like a BE level player tonight, it was Julian.

We don't play hard every night? We have poor recruiting? Are you watching the same team, in the same universe that I am?
Playing hard is not the issue. We play hard, sometimes we just don't make more shots than the other team does.
Our starting center last year was #6 in the draft. One of our starting guards is pre-season BE POTY, we've got a very well rgarded class coming in. Or perhaps you'd like us to recruit like Kentucky? Or Syracuse? Or UCONN?
Come on... blanket statements berating our players (who might be in slumps just like Austn was) as not being up to BE standards and that their effort sucks and that our recruiting sucks is nothing more than trolling. Come up with something constructive or at least informative to say, especially after a WIN for christ's sake. The whining and complaining by some on this board is starting to make me ill.

It's probably one of the weakest Big Easts ever to be honest, at least since the expansion. It just so happens that this is probably one of the overall weakest college basketball fields in the last 10 years. These Pitt, Nova and Syracuse teams wouldn't finish in the top four two years ago and Uconn wouldn't struggle to be .500. Compared to the overall field it is the strongest its ever been, but don't let that fool you into thinking we're unlucky to be playing in such a tough field.

This is a very weak year overall in College BBall. We only need to look at the teams in the bottom of the top 10 to see that. If you still don't believe that look at the rosters of some of the top 10 teams from 5 years ago. That said the BE is clearly stocked relative to college bball. WVU just beat a Purdue team, Cuse beat MSU and ND a wisconsin team that are supposed to be at the top of the second best conf.

1) I thought we were playing good defense in this game. Seton Hall jsut was getting every lucky bounce to go their way and caught fire in the second half. They couldn't shoot that well again no matter how hard they try. They got extremely lucky. 2) They also got lucky that the refs let everything go for most of the game. We were getting mugged when they made their run early in the second half. Ref's sucked this game. They helped us in the end by fouling out pope, but Seton hall was mugging hand checking holding pushing our guards and bigs all game with out calls. 3) I thought we played a really good game, seton hall was just lucky to get hot and get some lucky bounces. Great leadrship and play by freeman especially down the stretch. Great job hoyas! There was no question SHU was extremely hot in the 2nd half and made some jumpshots they normally would not. However, in the first half SHU missed some very makable shots so it works both ways. Overall the defense is allowing too many high % looks regardless of it goes in or not. The guards are getting beat routinely and we just do not have the baseline defense to contest these shots. The gameplan to take away Hazell worked, BUT we had no answer for Robinson, an undersized forward. We seriously had no one who could guard him, that is not good.

What is the point of comparing relative strengths of BE teams to anything other than this year's competition? The only thing that matters is how you stack up against this year's competition.

To dispute the fact that this is a bad year to have bad defense(which we've had a few times under III) and no post presence. Its probably one of the best years as, like I just said, there are weaker teams to expose it.

The whining and complaining by some on this board is starting to make me ill. centercourt, First, "bronxie" (as he refers to himself in the third person) is probably posting for the first time ever after a win. That's to be commended as he's basically just an arsonist. That being said, do yourself a favor and just gloss over whatever he posts as it's essentially the same regardless of topic, circumstance or situation. You'll be a happier person that way. Logic doesn't register for some folks. And you can't fix stupid. I'm not saying bronxie is illogical or stupid. But I'm not ruling it out.

We play hard every night...tell that to Ohio....tell that to Rotgers last year......shall Bronxie continue.......our recruiting has been shameful. If you do not see it then you do not want to see it. Go around other messages boards and see what other people think of us.

If other message boards are as rational as this one, what would be the point? I assume that they have posters exptecting their teams to fall to mid-major status in the very near future as well. Who'd read that ridiculousness and take it seriously?

I have been up in arms about JT3 recruiting nonathletic players for about 4 years. We are slow and small which is a bad combo. We also are a passive team (LIKE JT3) that does not get after it on D or on the boards. This has been happening for years. JT3 needs to change his recruiting strategy. Enough with playing guys out of position. We need a post up presence ala Sweetney. A skilled wide body that demands a double team. Also our guards and wings need to be in the mold of 6-4 to 6-7 with long limbs and slender bodies who can play D and create for themselves.
