Markel can shoot it. I think it's just been a case of having limited minutes and it turns into a mental thing.. and he even gets a little gun shy about taking them (ie Rutgers)
If he doesn't turn into a 35-40% thee point shooter starting next year in this offense, I'd be shocked.

Watching Austin play is amazing and confusing. Seems like he will loiter around the outside with no apparent interest in the game, nonchalant and almost lazy, then he will suddenly burst to the basket for a quick layup. This will be followed by a repeat of his loitering for a long time. Then, bang, there goes a three. The overall impression is of a disinterested player, showing us his talent only when he chooses. Now I know this is not reality but that's the impression I get watching him. When I see he scored 28 points, I'm surprised because it seemed like he only played for a few minutes.
Then, last night, there was the defense............

This game had me stressed out ... A loss would've been really bad. Ugly Win .. but I'll take it. Esp. on the road. I sat Behind Austins family and a few other Hoya fans and relatives. Shout Out to Jahidi "DAWG MASK" Hoya .. great to see you BROTHER! .. I also saw GIGI and MEGAFAN from a distance. I had my kids with me so I didn't travel to the other side to at least have a beer with you. I'm going to save that for the B.E.T ... CAFE31 ! ON TO THE NEXT .. Hey dude whats up...check this though, you know it's no such thing as an ugly win in the Big East, LOL

To show you what I have been saying for years Re: train wreck: athletic players, unathletic offe « Result #488 on Mar 11, 2009, 8:21am » This team as a whole is nonathletic. I have been saying that for a while. Our major deficiencies were magnified because we lacked athletes. #23 on St Johns was the best athlete on the court and would start at Gtown. Down low Burrell is not as skilled as Monroe but he is stronger and more athletic than Monroe. Also Boothe although not very skilled was the quickest player on the court. Keep in mind I was court side for both STJ's losses. JT3 has to change his recruiting practices. I will take a Kemba Walker type athlete over a Chris Wright any day. Hoyas are very athletic IMO still have players on the bench that very athletic too...

Sadly, this message board has regressed into one of the most uncomfortable places in America. I've posted on here for five years, and been a part of many an argument, but this is just sad. I thought this team leaped a hurdle tonight, fought back when it could've packed up. But much like my ex girlfriend, all we do is complain. Many of our "fans" need to take a look in the mirror. There are plenty of times that criticism is warranted. Tonight is not one of them. This team fought hard, fought back, scored on its last 11 possessions and one a road game in the Big East. It's just sad to read some of the slop on this thread tonight. Hurtful, actually. I love this team, and don't have a blind eye to our flaws. However, when we gut out a win like tonight, that effort should be matched by us....we simply aren't supporting this team nearly enough this season. This. EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY, NOW WATCH SOMEONE COME IN HERE AND SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, LOL BUT AGAIN, EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY!!! HAVE TO REALIZE SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE BETTING ON OUR KIDS TOO HMMM, I THINK THAT'S SOME OF THE BLAME, MAYBE MOST OF THE BLAME, IDK, IMJUSTSAYING IMO! ;D

There is definitely some of that here, but I respectfully disagree with you guys. There is nothing wrong for criticizing the team for that defensive performance. I don't need to summarize it, others have done a good job of it. It was atrocious. That being said, i would never say there is such a thing as a bad win, or that any team in America, Pitt and Syracuse included, cant have a game where they ONLY beat Seton Hall on the road by a few points. A win is a win for sure, but I dont have really good feelings about this team winning more than 5-6 more games this season. They are overmatched on defense, and it's not going to get any easier. Even a team like Marquette has gotten bigger and stronger. Crowder is going to abuse us. I GUESS IT'S JUST DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES IDK #DISTRAUGHTHOYAFANS? HOPE NOT

Respectively, criticize constructively, "atrocious" no no no, sounds like RDF's words, lol...ONLY beat Seton Hall? Aren't they a Big East team and in the Big East you can lose to any team from top to bottom? As far as not having really good feelings about the Hoyas winning whatever amount of games? Have faith and hope if you're a "true" Hoya fan? Overmatched on defense? Another teams player is going to abuse us? Question are you really rooting for our Hoyas? I'm just asking cause I want to know...It's better to ask than assume...very respectfully...one game a time man...Hoya Saxa!

And now here come the "why can't we criticize here?" rebuttals. Well I call BS on that. No one here gets annoyed with criticisms of the performance. We did play crappy defense last night - among other things. But there are those who can't stop there and proceed to the ridiculous hyperboles of "we don't have athletes/Big East caliber players" or "our season is going to suck," or "JTIII is crazy/a bad coach/worse than mayonnaise." Seriously? These are credible arguments? All those people suck and I have no problem saying it. All you want to do it bitch. What a miserable way to go through life. Well, be miserable somewhere else. Having said all of that, I really hope we can find a way to get Vee Sanford some more minutes. If not, JTIII is worse than mayonnaise. Boz u r silly SLOW CLAP hahahahahahaha, but leave my dude JTIII alone LOL!

A win is a win -- especially when it's against a hungry opponent at their home court in the Big East when the team is struggling to get out of a slump. Big props to the players and coaches for staying tough and battling back from that 19-2 Hall run down 6 with 3 mins to go. THAT'S Hoya basketball: we find a way to win, even if it ain't pretty. Lots of hustle last night. Really good to see. Austin was amazing. He's baaaaaaaaack. EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY! glidehoyas.blogspot.com/2011/01/in-end-hoyas-sink-pirates-ship-with.html

Daytona, I agree with the sentiment but I think it's fine to point out the flaws this team has. I think threads such as "Where does this game rate?" are nonsense. Having said that, if this team has any aspirations to make a run in the tourney (because they will make the tourney), they have serious work to put in. The defense is mind-boggling to me. I was sitting at the game and the guys kept teasing me because they would cut the 7 pt Seton Hall lead to 5 or 3 and then they could never get a stop. To be honest, at the end, we were also lucky because one of Theodore's (I believe it was Theodore), 3s went in and out and that might have been the difference between a W and an L. We didn't really get any big stops down the stretch. It's great if our offense is shooting over 50% but if you can't get stops, you aren't going to win games. How can we have one of the best shooting percentages in the country (third now) and have so much trouble pulling out wins? It's great that Austin has found his groove again. I would still like him to be even more aggressive (same sentiment with Hollis - also, his teammates should look for him more). Chris still needs to tone it down (I cringed when he went for that 1 on 2 at the end of the game). But Chris was so pumped after the game was over (really nice to see). He was high-fiving and encouraging his teammates. Good to see. Just shows these guys are giving it their all. I loved the heart that Julian showed last night but one criticism I have is that he really got abused in the second half by Robinson going left on him. This is as much III's fault for not adjusting. How many plays in a row did Seton Hall run the same thing for Robinson and there was no adjustment? Also, JuJu still needs to go up harder. Two of his buckets were "ballerina" lay ups. He should be dunking the ball. III's use (or non-use) of timeouts is still puzzling to me...moving on. Markel needs to spend the summer in the gym working on his jump shot but I love his hustle. He will be a good one. What happened to Clark's outside shot!?!?! To add to the athleticism/recruiting discussion, as I was leaving the game, two Seton Hall fans were discussing the game. The conversation went something along these lines, "Yeah, I wasn't that impressed with Georgetown tonight. They're usually a bigger squad." He then adds, "now Cuse, they are athletic. Last time I saw Cuse play Seton Hall, I knew from the warm ups we were going to lose because Cuse's players were twice the size of ours and much more athletic than us". I expect us to beat St. John's and be back at .500. The guys will be really pumped for this one. heard Seton Hall fans saying they weren't all that impressed with us, heck, what do you expect we beat them!!!! LMAO...The Hoyas are just as athletic as any team other big east team or NCAA's, please don't hand us that, my goodness! Most of the Hoya team is very athletic with the exception of maybe one...I know my squad...Clark's shot will get back on point, he's going more to the hole now and still to figure when to shoot and not shoot, let these young men develop in certain areas as they're playing and that will come, we Hoya fans need to be more patient, we're not the ones playing...IMO

Just being sarcastically snotty - most everybody has good points but saying someone is going to abuse us before we play them adds what to the discussion? I think it was pretty relevant to my point. We are worried going forward. As this is a message board for the purpose of discussing the team, that is what people are going to harp on. People want to know why we are concerned about the defense, well, it's because we still have to play Syracuse twice, Nova, Lville, Marquette, Cincy twice and UConn. I am worried. I am not sure where are going to get 5 more wins. I hope everyone comes out for all our homes games, we need home crowd support badly. i will be there. Worried? About what? Again, we're playing in the #1 conference in the the land! What do you expect bro, lol...yes, this is a message for discussing the team (positively, constructively and encouragingly)...remember where not the ones playing or coaching! Well, you keep on worrying about Cuse, Nova, Lville, Marq., Cincy and UConn, because that'll get you nowhere...do you worry about what bad is going to happen in your life? Hope, not, just take things/games one step, one game at a time and you'll fine, and you won't have to worry! Man stay hopeful and positive, and have faith! Peace

I hope Markel will show us he is a good shooter. Wright and Clark are both streaky. we would def need that next yr. For all I (and others) complained about JWall's lack of athleticism, Wright and Clark it seems are not doing as good a job as him staying in front of their guys. And this is knowing that there isnt a Ewing Green Hibbert to cover up for mistakes. I thought we did a better job in sequences when we didn't gamble as much and moved our feet. Sometimes you get beat but too often our guards are inviting the opportunity.
