Very good win for this team (especially come March). A few observations:
1. Chris Wright is playing like a true LEADER right now. He's sensational. Amazing to see the contrast between this year and last year (his maturation has been phenomenal). To put it into perspective, I'm glad Markel is getting some run but he has a long way to go (and I think he will be a fantastic PG of the future). However, Markel needs to work on his decision-making and has he made a single shot this year? I haven't seen him make one. However, he isn't intimidated out there and I like his ballhandling. Keep it up Markel. Good things will come (and by the way, as I've said on the recruiting board, we got the best PG in the DC area, not any of those schools in Carolina).
2. HENRY! Love this kid. He makes good things happen when he's on the floor. Of course, he still has a long way to go in terms of his growth (and hopefully he will see lots of that growth as the year goes on), but I'm really proud of Henry. Deserves a lot of praise. Also, something I noticed watching on TV was Henry's encouragement of the underclassmen (Vee and Nate for example). Co-captain with Jason next year?
3. Why did Nate take that 3? He can save ALL of those for next year (or the year after). We need him on the floor for his intangibles (putbacks, rebounding, etc.). Like the kid, but again, lots to work on as we move forward. In contrast, and this is why Jerrelle gets minutes, he plays within the system and within himself (at least this year). Does a lot of small things that aren't on the stat sheet. His ceiling isn't as high as many of the other guys, but he was solid again today.
4. Sometimes it's difficult to hand out minutes with Chris, Austin and Jason in the backcourt (announcers again said we have the best backcourt in the country...which we all know already!). Anyhow, I really like what Vee brings to this team, particularly when we press. Long arms. I would like for III to try to find some more minutes for him. As I said earlier this season, he will be the difference-maker in at least one or two Big East games this year.
5. I agree that Utah was playing the 3 pt line tight but we actually passed up some nice looks from 3 (that isn't a criticism, simply an observation).
6. Loved two Utah State coaches calling plays with their play books!
7. This is getting redundant now but no let ups with Temple! Temple plays Maryland tomorrow so will be interesting to see how they play. They barely beat Seton Hall earlier this year and they have already lost to California (not a good team) and Texas A&M (also not that good). But at Temple will always be tough. Let's get it done before a couple cupcakes.

Slightly OT did Bowen get a DNP for this game or did I miss him coming in?

Don't agree about conscious decision. Think it's sign of maturity. The team takes the good shot, adjusts Coach agrees with you in his post game press conference. As well, he has extremely high praise for Chris' "running the game and managing our team."

I don't recall seeing Bowen in the game, and he's not in the box score either.
Stat of the game: both teams took 18 2-pt FGAs in the second half. The Aggies made 6 of theirs, the Hoyas 13. Utah State was 10th in the country in 2-pt FG% defense entering the game.

Not sure how well that press will work against a team that matches or exceeds our level of athleticism, but Utah State looked absolutely incoherent offensively on many, if not most, of the possessions when we deployed it. I think it really contributed to some of the Aggies' woes, although they also just bricked a ton of shots, a fair number of which were good looks.

glad they pressed....that's the one thing i saw from their game earlier in the week with Denver....denver pressed a little and they didnt seem to be too comfortable with it. Knew that their bigs were going to have trouble with our length. glad that we took care of business against another probably ncaa team. On to the next!

Nice win for the Hoyas. Chris was obviously player of the game, but I also continue to enjoy watching Henry play well game after game. He is easily most improved player this season. I love the press, the few times we tried it in the 1st half it worked well so I was hoping we would see much more of it the 2nd half. Sure enough JT3 dialed it up and USU was not comfortable at all.
We also received some luck that USU's best big man was in foul trouble the entire game. In a way, I wished he could have stayed in, after they became a perimeter-oriented team it was not very hard to figure out how that would go.

Jerrelle definitely gave good minutes today. That steal and 3/4 court pass to a streaking Chris Wright for a lay up +1. VERY nice, heads-up, anticipation play on the part of JB.

Very solid win against a very good defensive team that threw at us a completely different style of play than Missouri. The Hoyas showed the ability to adjust. Look for offense in different ways. And as stated previously, employed a very effective press. We are winning in different ways against vastly different opponents. Very good sign. Nicely done.
Btw, as much as we thought the refs hurt us v. Missouri on no-calls during Missouri's press, I think we benefitted today from some no-calls when we ran the press. It speaks to the idea that it is usually better to be the team that dictates pace and is the aggressor - usually you get some breaks from the refs.

Just checked out the video recap on ESPN and no luck is seeing that incredible shot Chris Wright put in the second half with his back to the basket. Too bad. The defense looked great today. Henry keeps on improving and gaining confidence. Good to see Vee continuing to get some run as well. I really like the balance on this team. 16 points from the bench today. Jason and Austin each held under 10 but the teams still wins by 17 points.

Yeah, I don't know if any of the Aggie fans are still lurking here, but you have to agree that was a truly horrifically officiated game. I don't know whether a preponderance of the calls went our way instead of theirs but it definitely affected the character of the game. I would feel much more honest about the win if USU's best player hadn't spent most of the second half on the bench (although for same reason, we didn't get as much out of JV as we normally do). There was hardly a possession in the first half that wasn't ruined by a stupid whistle (foul or otherwise).

Didn't he fouled out let 15 left?
Are you kidding me?

said it last year that hank will be pretty good for this team. this year i'm saying before its over, jerrelle will be pretty good for this team.
great win hoyas. every game now i say to myself 'i'll really be impressed if gu pulls out a win in this game' and they've come thru. hopefully Moses the Great can bring something against Memphis. JT Jr. said on his show that he has a chance to be great but needs to work hard on his game. said that he told Moses if he doesn't make his free throws, JTIII won't put him in the game; moses hung his head.
anyway, thanks hoyas.

Wesley gets it for the fauxhawk and the very professional way that he whined about every single call the whole game.

Fantastic win. I was only able to watch the first half, but in seeing the final outcome I am very pleased. It seems we faced two very different teams with Mizzou and Utah St and got wins in two very different ways. I only saw a little of the press in the 1st, but agree it looked good. A nice weapon at least for some of these tough smaller conference teams that can throw you off your rhythm. It may not work as well in the BE, but it's a nice option to throw out there.
I have to agree with other posters calling this their favorite team since 2007.......these guys are winning, having fun and a lot of fun to watch. The Temple game will be another tough test, but I'm pretty confident these guys will be up for the challenge.
Thanks guys for a great early birthday present (it's tomorrow) and if NC St can keep this up, and SU loss would be great!
