Along the same lines as a Brazilian steakhouse -- strip clubs, overrated or underrated? Discuss. If there is a good strip club -- overrated or underrated -- in the entire DC metro area, I have yet to see it. Now, strip clubs in other parts of the country? St. Louis, Omaha, Dallas and others (particularly in the center parts of the country, north to south)? Yes, please. EDIT: Vegas strip clubs are definitely overrated.....except that small one that has all the Russian/Eastern European girls, but I can't remember the name oif it, dammit! As to the general question of the idea of strip clubs, I'm usually one of those who goes to those places on special occasions. Bachelor parties, getting all the college buddies back together, being really, really drunk, etc. In general, for those occasions, I don't think they are overrated or underrated. They are right where they should be.

Strip clubs = definitely overrated. Costs a decent amount of cash, you might contract diseases, and it makes you depressed that you just had to pay for that action. Looking around at the patrons who are not in college makes it worse because they are REALLY depressing. Then you just think if that's what you look like too. So you feel bad about yourself and then feel bad for the girls. Plus you're paying for this experience. That's not a winning combination. Bachelor's party? 18th birthday? Fine. Any other time? no thanks.

Brazilian steakhouses are really overrated.
Hell, a good steakhouse is ten times better than a Brazilian steakhouse, and I steakhouses are overrated. I can get high quality (though not restaurant quality) meat from my butcher and cook it just as well. So I'm basically paying for the sides.
Strip Clubs are overrated. What's underrated is making fun of that guy in there -- you know, the random friend you have that drops $600-$1000 in one.

What about strip clubs that serve really good steak? Over rated. I don't want to put anything from a strip club in my mouth unless I see the seal broken myself

Bruce Springsteen is the standard by which all overrated things should be measured. His popularity just baffles me. I don't' get it.

I agree to an extent on Springsteen. I don't like his band stuff except a handful of songs. He's far better IMO in a folksy/acoustic setting.

Springsteen wouldn't be so awful if his fans didn't exist. They are the ones who drive me up the wall. Decent artist? Sure. The best thing to come out of NJ? Can't think of anything else for the moment, so sure. God among man so that his songs have to be played non-stop at every bar imaginable? Ehhh, no. The fact that his nickname is the boss just makes it more annoying when his fans discuss him. However, I'll take him over Billy Joel in a heartbeat

Springsteen wouldn't be so awful if his fans didn't exist. Valid, but this is kind of the point of an "overrated" thread, isn't it?

His fans may be obnoxious but Springsteen is not overrated. His songs play constantly because they are great.
Frankie Valli and Jon Bon Jovi are also from New Jersey.

Well I was giving NJ a friendly ribbing. Let me clear this up-I generally like Springsteen's music and Frankie Valli is awesome. Bon Jovi on the other hand may be THE most overrated thing in this thread.

I saw Frankie Valli a few weeks ago. Still pretty good, considering he's 74. But Tony Bennett is great at 82, so.

On the underrated list, I would add the Papa John's "Garlic" pizza sauce. It really is not much more than melted butter, but, if they called it that, nobody would put it on pizza.

OK, of the main delivery chains, Papa Johns is the best, but it's still a doughy mess. (Nothing against the melted butter with garlic or the little pepperoncinis that you get.) Man, I wish AV was still open. -- sigh -- The Italian Store does pizza OK, but it's too greasy. The Italian Store, BTW, is neither overrated nor underrated. Everyone thinks it is frickin' awesome....and it is! (pizza shortcomings notwithstanding).

My DC pizza joint of choice is Armands downtown. It is a small chain with a few shops in DC and a few elsewhere, including Chicago IIRC. For all of the beleaguered attorneys who work in DC, it is an option on SeamlessWeb (or it was for the last 3 years), so give it a try if you or one of your colleagues is looking for an easy option to feed the masses. Great deep dish with plenty of options for toppings, including red bell peppers.
I won't say Papa John's is underrated or overrated. It is somewhere down the middle.
