QUESTION: Can anyone verify if that was Jon Wallace in a most charming coral polo shirt behind the bench? Was he sitting with Sead? FIX IT JON!!

GUJook... I won't argue that Louisville isn't better. They are. But the first quarter killed us. Plus, they play harder than we do. We have a more methodical offense which gives our guards a blow on offense in comparison to the more run and gun offenses out there, yet other teams' guards press us harder on defense. It makes very little sense to me.

The abysmal 3 point shooting has killed us all year. I didn't expect us to be lights out this year, but i expected us to be an above average shooting team. We've gotten looks, we just haven't made them. Would have really helped us run our offense. But again, offense isn't that big of a problem to me. It was, but I think we have executed far better in the past 3-4 games. The defense...now that's a different story.

The offense does not require a team of 3 shooters and it is not designed to shoot a bunch of threes. With the floor spread if Summers or Freeman could take somebody on the dribble and then either hit the short jumper or pass when the defense collapses it is there every game. I'll say it again. We are overmatched at the 3 and 4.

Tempo free notes, pending CO's normal fine work: --73% on FG in the first half (8-11), but Hoya shooting other than that was awful (9/24 on FG in 2H, 3/16 on 3's), overall 42.2% eFG compared to 63.6% for Louisville. --TOs and rebounding were pretty even-Louisville slightly won OR%, but had 1 more TO. --7 assists on 20 made baskets for the game. That's not how the offense is supposed to work. By contrast, Louisville had 17 assists on 24 baskets (71%). Kind of easy to identify the good defensive team.

Tashoya, did not say that we missed Macklin--he was not what we had hoped--, just that between Macklin and Braswell we have missed twice in our recruting for a vital position. Summers is not and has never been an ideal 4/5.

I agree that the biggest problem this year is the defense, but it's worth noting that over the last three halves, we have shot 4-23 on 3s. This sort of abysmal shooting has occurred repeatedly this season, and has killed us on the offensive end. The first half against Marquette was an aberration. As pointed out above, for the Princeton offense to be effective, the team has to have good outside shooters. We don't, for whatever reason. That doesn't mean we should change the offense. It means that Wright, Clark, Summers (he's not going anywhere, unless he's happy to be a mid to late second round choice, at best), Freeman, Hollls (I'll throw him in, because he should be an integral part of the team next year) and the reserves should be shooting at least 1000 three point shots a day during the offseason. We are capable of better than we have shown this year. We just have to come back next season and show it. You are 100% right about our main problem being our defense, but I think you make an interesting point about the 3-point shooting as well. In my opinion, however, the problem lies with the type of shots that we are getting. We have good shooters, for the most part. The problem is that the majority of our 3-pointers are contested/"bad" shots. How many times over the past 7 or so games have you seen Dajuan Summers come down and after 3 passes just jack up a 3 with a defender in his face? The Princeton offense is predicated on a number of different principles, most notably good, crisp ball movement, hard back-cuts, strong post play and a willingness to make the defense play defense for an extended period of time. All of that tends to lead towards open jump shots and lay-ups. I would have no problem if this current team was doing that and just missing the shots. Good shooters, if given good shots on a consistent basis, will hit more then they miss (see Louisville tonight or Marquette on Saturday). The problem is we are not doing anything remotely like this right now on offense and the biggest hindrance is the lack of post play. For whatever reason, we refuse to get Greg Monroe involved on a consistent basis. He is our most talented player and I see no reason why he should not be touching the ball 4 or 5 times per possession at the high-post or mid-post. The guy is a great passer, has good moves (finishing is another thing) to the basket and a decent mid-range game. Allowing him to consistently touch the ball in that area would force teams to collapse their defense on him and now some of those contested 3-pointers would become open 3-pointers or, even better, open 16-footers which I feel our guys can knock down.

calhoya... agreed. Would love for DS to have been able to play the 3 for his years on the Hilltop. He'd probably have the skills right now that we're so badly in need of from that spot. And, yes, agreed we need a true center as Greg is a 4. I just misread the tone of your post. Apologies.

manny... actually I think we take a lot of open shots and just miss them. Additionally, I have less of a problem with DS taking a "contested" 3 than most others as dude is 6'8" and, as such, they're not really contested. He might see a hand toward his chest somewhere but not exactly off-balance and "contested" in the sense that I would think of Austin taking a contested shot for instance. DaJuan misses those too at crucial parts of the game. That, in fact, is one of my biggest gripes about DaJuan. When the team looks to him is when the wheels come off of his game. Otherwise, a lot of the other stuff I can live with from him. But we just flat out miss decent looks. And defense.... oh LAWD... the defense (or lack thereof)!

I agree that Chris, Jessie, and Julian played with passion and brought some defensive intensity. I also thought Jason played pretty hard and mostly well. We looked pretty tight in the first half especially after we got behind, and at the end of the game we looked too desperate. At the end of regulation against Syracuse we were calm and aggressive, but in this game we did not execute our offense.
The bottom line on our slide since mid-season is that Greg hit a bit of a wall, and JTIII decided that he had to expand the bench and that he could not count on his five best players to contribute 35 minutes per game. Maybe he was right, but aside from Jason, I don't think Omar, Nikita, Julian, or Henry were ready to provide meaningful and CONSISTENT play off the bench.

Really tough to watch the guys play so hard tonight and get such a terrible result. Not only did they have some self-inflicted problems, but UL took advantage of every mistake and made some incredibly tough shots. We had great effort, but again, we looked lost on offense at times when we did not toss it down to the high post a few times to force the defense to react. We also did not seem to bother cutting to the basket tonight. Defensively, I agree with the post that you simply cannot play Nikita and Summers at the same time.
Summers is having an awful finish to the season. I am not sure what is the cause, maybe his ankle/foot injury from the Cincy game is slowing him down, but he looks a step slower than usual. He has never been a good defender but he looks awful right now and is not even contemplating driving to the basket anymore.
The team has plenty of upside though. I think they are going through the process right now of learning what it will take to win in this league. If they played with this much effort vs SHU or Cincy we would have had some more Ws. But I guess what I want to see now is this team try to close the season with some good play, the worst would be for them to pack it in and blow one against SJU or Depaul, teams they can beat without their best shooting game.

Princeton 0, R.I.P. 58 points in a must win game, and it wasn't the Louisville's D, our offensive style is outdated. Thompson just doesn't get it, he fails to make adjustments. Everyone has our number, even the marginal teams can make a game of it. You can say what you want but Georgetown wouldn't be back on the national stage, and getting these McDonald's All American if JT3 wasn't here. Those 3 McD AA's have gotten us to 12th in the league.
