Well worth going to a midnight showing and being ass tired at work today. There were even lines for the 3AM showings as I left the theater.
I want to see it again, preferably in IMAX

Seeing it tonight and looking forward to it. Heath Ledger is supposedly an awesome Joker.

Seriously, Heath Ledger makes Jack Nicholson look like a hobo and Cesar Romero look like a child molester.
It's obviously a totally different style movie, so you can't compare the 3 Jokers, but suffice to say Heath was amazing...absolutely awesome. Morgan Freeman also, for a very minor role, fills in the movie nicely. Thank god for no Katie Holmes.

Though it's already online, the Watchmen trailer also plays before TDK.

How dare you malign Cesar Romero's Joker. Absolutely awesome in all of its glorified campiness.

SPOILER ALERT
Ledger was Awesome. Bale and Eckhardt were very, very good. Gyllenhall was a huge step up from Katie Holmes.
Great acting in this movie. Many memorable scenes. But for me Begins did a better job of time/plot management (for lack of a better term). Too much meandering in the middle of the movie for my taste. Also, Two-Face was created and killed off in what seemed like 20 minutes.
Love what Nolan is doing with these films, and I would imagine it's extremely difficult to wrap a legendary comic book series into a nice little package, but I thought the previous movie did that pretty well and this one did not. But yeah, TDK still = Awesome.

Now THAT was a good movie. Maybe not 4 stars, but certainly 3+
Music is terrific. The whole cast is brilliant, especially Heath Ledger. What a shame he died. That guy was incredibly talented. Maggie Gyllenhaal is so far superior to Katie Holmes. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are pros.
And now, I finally know what I want to be when I grow up.
I want to be the guy in charge of Batman/Bruce Wayne's vehicles!

Props also to GU Alum Jonah Nolan, co-writer with his brother (and the director) Christopher. I'd like to give special props to the writing. It was one of the most well written movies I've seen in a while. BIG SPOILER ALERTI thought the themes and subtext of the movie was its strongest part. Letting us all decide if the creation of the dark knight and the consumption of the white knight was the appropriate price to pay for fighting terrorism was both timely and worked well with the story. The ethical and moral issues that the storyline left open were intriguing and unexpected from a summer blockbuster. It built well on the politics of fear theme used in Batman Begins.

I don't think that's a spoiler. Nothing too specific in there. But yes, there are underlying political messages.
Here's another interesting tidbit for those who may not have noticed.
As mentioned, Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker. Maggie Gyllenhaal is the new “Rachel”, childhood friend of Bruce Wayne (Batman) who grew up and works in the DA’s office. Last time it was Katie Holmes. Maggie is a real actress, far better.
The interesting bit? She is in this film, Heath Ledger’s last. Heath’s most famous film (before this one) is Brokeback Mountain, where he played opposite Maggie’s brother, Jake Gyllenhaal.

I may be alone in my opinion here, but, I liked Batman Begins a helluva lot better than Dark Knight.
Dark Knight was still an excellent movie. but...
...aside from the obvious upgrade caused by the absence of katie holmes, i didn't like the Rachel character nearly as much in round 2. In Batman Begins, Rachel was serious, single-minded pursuer of justice. In Dark Knight, Rachel's primary role seemed to be flirting.
...Too many subplots that got dragged out for a too long. Did the whole thing with the guy from Wayned enterprises trying to "out" Batman need as much development as it got? Did we really need that much development with the scene with the people on the boats? Neither of those are on the level of ridiculousness of, say, the stupid spinning wheel scene from the 2nd Pirates of the Carribean movie, but, still, the movie could have been tighter.
Where do the movies go from here? Obviously Heath Ledger's passing complicates things a great deal. But, there are a ton of villains to choose from, and, unlike Batman Begins, Dark Knight didn't really hint at whats next.

Both "Begins" and TDK are good ones. Much better than all the other "superhero" movies.

Here's a question for those of you who have seen it (so don't read this if you haven't)
if a third Batman movie is made who should be the villians? Assuming the Nolans don't do something foolish like try to have someone else play the Joker or pretend like Two Face didn't die.
Riddler? I think his character is too similar to the Joker, but Michael Cain apparently said at the premier that the future Batman would include him.
Catwoman? Batman needs a new love interest
Penguin? How do you make the Penguin NOT campy?
Someone else? Perhaps the Governator can revive his Mr. Freeze role!

I believe Two Face will be back, though I don't know if it is in the next one. Harvey Dent may be dead, but Two Face somehow lives on- they were just ambiguous enough with that memorial service stuff.
Lucious Fox also hinted at the Catwoman making an appearance, talking about how his armor could protect him from a cat. And they do need a way to bring a woman into the mix.
Penguin could be great played as a true mob-boss with money as his sole motivation- the Joker may anarchy personified, but I believe the Penguin was more like the embodiment of greed.

The way this series has gone, Catwoman would be awesome. Riddler? He would have to be drawn very differently from Joker anyway because Heath Ledger was such a powerful character. He totally had it down.
