The White Sox win the Pennant! The White Sox win the Pennant! The White Sox win the Pennant!
No air raid sirens in Chicago (unlike '59). But church bells and many, many happy faces.
Showcase, thanks for setting up this thread. You're a prophet.
GO YOU WHITE SOX!
C86.

The back of throat's been itchy for days, but I finally just finished a good cry after talking to my dad.
Grandpa was watching up there somewhere (probably in a green-laquered Comiskey seat above a pile of peanut shells, next to Bill Veeck.)
Four MORE CGs to go...

Wow - and to think this was yet another year when the prognosticators counted the White Sox out without a moment's hesitation. Watching Paulie scoop up that grounder to end it felt incredible. I know elation or crushing disappointment lies right around the corner with the next series starting on Saturday, but for right now, it's like having bliss on tap - I can't stop smiling. Not just winning the series, but dominating them with pitching has really made me hopeful. GO! WHITE! SOX!

Hope for the best, but don't count on anything. That's been my motto throughout the playoffs, and I ain't changing it now.
This is very sweet. Great pitching by the starters, solid contributions from Konerko and Crede, and some help from the umps (kismet? could it be?).
I guess the bullpen is REALLY rested. Hopefully three weeks off will be enough to heal Hermanson's back problems.

I didn't need any air raid sirens. I went to bed early after a hard weekend (also as a Cubs fan I feel it is my duty to be above this whole White Sox thing), only to be awakened by my own personal air raid siren, my Father, who called to yell into the phone about the White Sox winning the pennant.
He's been singing that stupid go go white sox song for weeks now and I can't wait for the season to be over.

I know everybody probably believes the fix was in, but I'd have to say that Sox vs. 'Stros has to be one of the more compelling WS match-ups in some time. One franchise looking to end an almost century-long draught and another that's never won a WS at all? This seems a heck of a lot more appealling to me than Yanks-Braves Pt. VIII.

Let's win this one for Frank Thomas and Ron Kittle and Harold Baines and Bill Melton and Wilbur Wood. But mostly let's win it for Bill Veeck (as in Wreck).

Jenks' junk jinxes? I can't believe the 'Stros have tied it with 2 out in the top of the 9th. That play at the plate was so close...

The throw was accurate, but not very strong. Podsednik had the ball and was shallow when the runner was rounding third.

Who the heck does Podsednik think he is, anyway? He's supposed to set the table, not eat dessert as well.
GO! WHITE! SOX!

Unless Lidge sees Freud, I have a feeling that the White Sox are gonna take this. Lucky for yall, Pujols ruined the Astros closer.

Unless Lidge sees Freud, I have a feeling that the White Sox are gonna take this. Lucky for yall, Pujols ruined the Astros closer. I couldn't agree more. I think Lidge is done. For this series, and maybe longer...I mean this has to absolutely eat him up until he goes out and finally shuts down another big game or two. Oh, and Podsednik kind of had to win the game there. His throw to the plate was weak AND inaccurate. You can't throw to the first-base side of the plate and hope to get the runner out at the plate. They should have won the game 6-5. Then again, since Jermaine Dye didn't get hit by that pitch there, maybe it should have been 4-2 Astros going into the ninth...oh well. It's odd how some teams can catch a few highly-visible breaks more often than others.

Agree that Scotty's throw didn't have alot on it, but I don't have an issue with his accuracy. And further to the other side of home plate and it's a difficult catch and tag for Pierzinski to make.
And while the Dye HBP may get logged in the Tome of Breaks the Sox Got, it's impossible to speculate whether a continued at bat would have ended in an out or a walk (it was 3-2, after all). More importantly, the next pitcher didn't really do much to get Konerko out - that ball was hit WAY back ... stretch ... you can putitonthebooooard, YES!

I hope the Sox win, but I also hope Hawk shreds his vocal cords crowing when they do so I never have to hear him call another baseball game.

Hawk Harrelson is the worst announcer in the history of baseball.
