See the Braves thread. TBird made an appearance there and spouted off about how much he hates the Sox.
I was out of town with no computer or newspaper access during the Sox-Sox series, so all I saw was the results. It sounds like we blew the first game, but a split is ok. It's also too bad (but inevitable - particularly as to the Tigers) that the Tigers and Royals finally figured out how to beat us, but all is well again with taking the broom to the fading Orioles.
With Thomas out for the season (again), I wonder if K Williams might try and sneak another bat through the waiver wire.

TBird - the poster too scared to come back and make his proclamations here in White Sox Nation. It's been a bit of a tough East Coast road trip for the Sox. 2-1 vs. the Yanks but 0-2-1 vs. the Carmines. The Sox didn't look all that inspirational in Saturday's contest. To the extent there's talk that Pods is a little gimpy (and he clearly hasn't contributed too much to the offense of late), that could explain some of the drop off in offensive threat. Anyway, at least we could go a whole series without the BoSox faithful coming here and defiling this thread.

I'm not really sure what there is to be afraid of Showcase--there just hasn't been a lot for me to say here--all the Sox do is win, the Twins are losing, and the Twins and Sox haven't played.
Well let me be the first to say that it's too damn bad these games b/w the Twins-Sox don't mean anything, b/c if the Twins were still in it, the 12 remaining games would be awesome. Especially that Johan-Buehrle match (speaking of which, I am happy that the Cy is going to stay in the Central--Buehrle is finally getting the press he deserves).
And the sad thing is, I think that the Sox have as good a chance as anyone to go to the Series--there are no dominant teams in the AL--everyone has question marks: Red Sox-Bullpen/starting pitching White Sox--inexperience, average offense A's--inexperience Angel's--starting pitching Yankees--bullpen, starting pitching

Yet you found time to opine about the ChiSox on the Braves thread - I keed, I keed.
I think Garland is getting a fair amount of press in baseball writers' circles. I wouldn't count him out just yet.
At any rate, the state of the ChiSox and the Twinkies' victory last night should be blood in the water to you - the Sox have lost three straight overall and 11 of 17 at home. If anyone has patented the late-season-swoon, it's the Sox (or, in fairness, the Cubbies).

Plus, with Pods getting shelved with a groin injury, things aren't looking up for the Sox...

It's hard to get too excited when you're 14 games back. The Twins have an outside chance at the Wildcard, if they can start scoring runs and the pitching continues to be as good as it has been, but I don't think even the White Sox could blow a 14 game lead.

Sox just aren't playing real well right now. Last night's game was exactly the type of game they were winning during the first 3 months of the season. The Twins put together a couple walks and a bunch of singles for a 4 run inning, and it stood up.
I hope the Sox put Brian Anderson in the lineup. I'd like to see what he can do. Also, they have to be able to do better at lead-off than Timo Perez. Ugh.

Dropping a 16-inning heartbreaker after leading in the 9th hurts. That it was the Twinkies makes it hurt worse.

Hopefully this is just our turn to go through the type of phase that most teams go through over the course of a long season and that we had so far avoided - a short period where everything seems to go wrong. I'm cautiously optimistic that the pitching will enable us to nip this before it gets out of hand, turning into a 12 losses in 14 games type of mess.

Hey guys, I haven't checked in here in a while, but I thought I might do some own-horn-tooting... www.slate.com/id/2124605/God I hope they don't get swept by the Twins.

From Burleith's link...
That's a lie! A damnedable lie! We're just a 'fly-under-the-radar nation.' Like Luxembourg.

I'd talk a lot of trash right now, but I'm going to be realisitic, so I'd just like to note that once again, Johan is tearing it up after the All Star Break and that for whatever reason, the Twins seem to have Buehrle's number (5 runs both times he's pitched this year).
I'm starting to think the Twins have a chance of winning the wildcard. It's a small chance, but they have a chance. I'd be down for an ALCS (American League Central Series).

All right, time to give this damn thread a bump. After an, ahem, underwhelming August. The Good Guys, Wearing Black, are off to a 5-0 September, and, better yet, ruined Red Sox fans' Labor Day.
Let's get some traffic on this sucker for the stretch run...I thought my clearly incendiary article would have people posting for months--months, I tell ya!!! But no.

I'm not trying to be a jerk Cubs fan here, this is a serious question that I think you guys can help me answer: what does it take for White Sox fans to show up at their stadium? tinyurl.com/d9bt8 I don't consider "the kids are back in school" to be a valid excuse for any White Sox fan who doesn't actually, oh, have kids. (I am asking this here because I think this gathering of White Sox fans might address the question instead of mocking me because the team I support blew its season by losing games to the Reds, Rockies, and Diamondbacks while going a combined 11-7 against the Cardinals and the White Sox.)

Ok, guys, we need a serious karma jolt. Am I the only one panicking at this point? Could we be looking at baseball immortality, i.e., the biggest blown lead in the history of MLB? It's staring us in the face.

Rooter, I'm not panicking yet, but I'm very nervous. Last I saw, we were tied with the Twinkies in the top of the 10th. Indians beat up on the hapless Royals (natch). If the Sox can't pull it out tonight, then it's 3 1/2 games up, two more this weekend in the Rollerdome, and then 3 with the Indians at Comiskey.
This is a bad confluence of events. The Indians are now hotter than the 69 Mets were at the end of that season. The Sox sound like they've been hit over the head with a canoe paddle. Honestly, Buerhle was on the radio this morning talking in this creepy dead-pan voice about the possibility of getting swept by Cleveland. Mark, dude, you're a professional pitcher on a first place team! Even if you're afraid of the Indians, don't say it. Keep fighting.
I have lit votive candles underneath my pictures of Billy Pierce and Ted Lyons. Anybody have any extra rosaries?
Go you White Sox!

I think the Indians would appreciate the forefit at this point!
Hawk was oddly loud last night for a blown lead -- usually he goes silent when that happens.

I'm not a huge fan of delighting in the pain of others, but let me tell you, this horrible gnashing of teeth from White Sox fans after a summer of unbelieveable arrogance has me tickled. It'll really be interesting to see how long it takes (after the Sox don't make the playoffs in the worst collapse in history) for the "Yeah, well, the Cubs suck, where did they finish?" comments to start. Clearly the Cubs sucked this year, but at least they won't have been party to the worst collapse in baseball history ;D
