Horrible. First au pied de cochon, now Nathan's (to name a couple). Let's just replace Booeymonger with a Potbelly and we'll complete the "Nothing Unique about Georgetown" plan.

Booeymonger's may be the "Unique Delicatessen," but like Clydes or Chadwicks, it's actually a local chain. The introduction of the Apple Store, therefore, will be the nail in the coffin...for M Street anyway. At least Wisconsin Ave. still has the five-million suit stores that are always discounting 60% but still have no customers. When will the Hoya (or the Voice!) do some investigatory reporting into these stores, which are obviously huge cocaine fronts.

IMO this is a good thing not only for selfish reasons (an Apple Store within easy walking distance of campus would be very convienent) but also for the neighborhood. Georgetown really has to live up to its functional purpose: the high end shopping district of a major metropolitan area, for those "unique delicatessens" to have sucsess. The neighborhood is not really getting anything from having Nathan's at that location, the resturaunt/bar situation is already pretty well saturated, but having a large anchor like an Apple Store to go along with the large Bannana Republic complex and other future brand flagships (perhaps a Niketown could acquire some of those "front shops" that bubbrubb mentions). While a resturaunt like The Alamo or Papa Razzi is not a big enough draw to get people to come to the neighborhood by themselves, they would benifit from drawing customers from the afternoon shoppers that would go to the big flagship stores like Bannana Republic. Its kinda hard to complain about M street losing its identity when the tackiest thing there is a Pizzaria Uno. Wake me up if a Micke D's tries to replace the Ukranian embassy with a mega-playplace BTW I'm down with replacing Booey's with a Potbelly, wayyyyy too overpriced

I guess I long for the days of my first couple years at GU, when M St. had a Sunny's Surplus and an extremely sketchy magazine shop (Key Bridge News? Something like that) rather than ultra modern furniture stores. I'm also still bitter that the Five Guys took the spot of my favorite after hours drinking spot. Au pied de Cochon was the only place I knew of that would serve tequila shots at 4 a.m. out of coffee mugs to foil D.C. Metro.

All the cold war landmarks have closed - first Au Pied then Yenching Palace.
Rumor is the Apple Store will be a "flagship" store.

BTW I'm down with replacing Booey's with a Potbelly, wayyyyy too overpriced The last thing DC needs is another freakin' potbelly. If you want a cheap sub go to the Subway on M Street. Up with potato wedges, down with A Wreck! The loss of Au Pied was tragic, the loss of Nathan's? Eh, not so much. That place wasn't that good. Better an Apple store than another clothing shop; at least you can waste hours on end at at Apple store checking out the new toys and listening to music for free.

I guess I would rather have an electronics store full of things I can't afford (but can mess around with) than a clothing store I can't afford.

Ah hell no. No talk of replacing booey's ever. I actually know the owner ( his son went to school with my brother). I'm not letting a family friend get bad mouthed. Potbelly's is very overrated. sandwhiches are small and not very many options.

The only good thing about Booeys is that they serve under-age. Other than that is sucks more times than Rich Chvotkin can yell "Hoyas Win!" It's so bad I'd replace it with an Arbys.

You guys are like a man who doesn't use Old Spice: DUMB. Booey's has good variety in sandwiches and breakfast, decently speedy service (been to Wisey's in the past 5 years?), great deserts, and it's the best casual drinking option to boot, even though the two beers differ only in color. Don't let my earlier post mislead anyone, Booey's is a great part of Georgetown, unlike anything else to which people can walk. Also, be careful what you wish for with Potbelly's. The sandwiches are OK, but the variety is lacking and the assembly-line approach makes you feel more like a cow being led to slaughter than a diner grabbing a bite to eat. If you've ever been to the Foggy Bottom Potbelly's at lunch, you know exactly what I mean. That said, if Booey's could match Potbelly's milkshakes, it's cache would skyrocket.

Have you ever sat down in front of the TV (NFL Sunday Ticket, duh) with a Miami Burger after a long night out? It's like heaven on a bagel. Also, the availability and relative cheapness of the beer, along with the charm of drinking on the sidewalk makes Booey's a fine establishment, without even considering the (non-breakfasty) sandwich options.
PS. have you ever tried their rice pudding? It's delectable, especially when you have them put a few strawberries in it.

Isn't the question of Booeymonger vs. Potbelly moot as long as there is a Wisey's in Georgetown?
And none of the three are The Italian Store anyway, so no matter where you go, you're getting second best at best.
Mmmmm......muffuletta!
(best pizza anywhere too, now that AV is closed)

Wisey's is by far the best option discussed so far, and Booey's really is good for a change of pace. Like others have mentioned, the $5.50 Michelob pitchers at Booey's (don't know if they've jacked up the price) couldn't be beat. I probably went to Wisey's 3 times for every trip to Booey's though.
The other main attraction for Booey's is the opportunity to use fake names when you order, which the gentlemen at the counter are obligated to repeat when your order is done. "Batman, your Chicken Rico is ready!"
Potbelly's is great if you enjoy horrible sandwiches.

When I was on GU, I went to Booeymonger a few times. My last semester there was early Clinton admin, and Stephanopoulos was spotted there with Jennifer Grey when they were an item. Still doesn't top my seeing Chuck Norris at the Vietnam memorial (when I ran there via the towpath with some buddies) story though.

Thank you DaJuan, couldn't have said it better myself Very true about Wisey's, JJL, but hey we all need a little variety from time to time right? Up with Booey's, down with Potbelly.

No one has mentioned the big complaint: for its price it should be SOOOO MUCH BETTER. If I'm forking over the cash I don't want stale bread or for the guys in the kitchen to get my order wrong again and again, and I want breakfast food that is EDIBlE!
Up With Potbelly's!
