BTW I'm down with replacing Booey's with a Potbelly, wayyyyy too overpriced Barf. I guess I long for the days of my first couple years at GU, when M St. had a Sunny's Surplus and an extremely sketchy magazine shop (Key Bridge News? Something like that) rather than ultra modern furniture stores. I'm also still bitter that the Five Guys took the spot of my favorite after hours drinking spot. Au pied de Cochon was the only place I knew of that would serve tequila shots at 4 a.m. out of coffee mugs to foil D.C. Metro. "I'll have a Mexican coffee...make that three." Good times.

Booeys = breakfast
Those who disagree clearly went to Cuse...either that, or you didn't live within stumbling distance for two years.

Potbellys is for the souless urban-surburbias like Foggy Bottom and Chinatown...not the quirky streets of Georgetown. You young folks have no respect for tradition.

Beh, I won't let a group of grumpy, possibly incontinent, old men with nostalgia for bygone eras change my faith in the truth UP DOUBLE PLUS GOOD POTBELLY's!

If they were members of the Georgetown basketball community,
Wisey's would be JT3 Booey's would be Brandon Bowman Potbelly's would be Josh Thornton
Incidentally, the Au Pied brand name moved to M Street up by the CVS--there's an Au Pied Bistro, I've walked by it many times but it seems like too much of a legit restaurant, doesn't capture what the original APdC location was about IMO.

And another thing about Potbelly's: Nothing can be worse on your lunch break than having to suffer through some half-assed wannabe singer songwriter perform their "Bob Dylan version" of Sweet Caroline. After a two hour conference call? Edited!

I just went to Potbelly's to spite all of you. Considering the mediocrity that is potbelly's, you weren't really spiting anyone but yourself

Actually, Au Pied Bistro closed over the summer, and was just replaced by Le Pan Quotidien, apparently one of the first US installments of a Belgian bakery/cafe outfit.

After a two hour conference call? Edited! I will not defend Potbelly's in this regard, but bad music ambiance seems to be an issue that effects the majority of sandwich places. I was in Booey's last week and had to suffer through an indie cover of the electronica song "Heaven" while waiting to not recieve the food I ordered. And I've heard much worst at other sandwich places across the country

Yep, and Le Pan's liquor license was discussed at length at the ANC meeting on Tuesday. Brings it all full circle.

After a two hour conference call? Edited! I won't defend Potbelly's on this (actually there's a lot about Potbelly's not worth defending) but it seems to me that bad music ambiance consisting of annoying covers is a problem at most sandwich places. For example, I was in Booey's last week and has to suffer through an indie cover of "Heaven" while waiting for the staff to screw up my order. And months ago I had to spend hours in a Chicago Potbelly's where they played bad Simon & Garfunkle covers non-stop.

I think this recent post from the Chicago Burger Project sums up nicely how many feel about Potbelly. chicagoburgerproject.blogspot.com/"The first time I ate at a Potbelly was in Ann Arbor in 2003 on my way to Canada. I recall being filled with wonder, like I was cast into a magical world of perfect collegetown sandwichery. I was excited when they first came to HP, even though very early on I endured an in-house guitar player's rendition of "Knockin on Heaven's Door" from Potbelly's patented "singer-perch." Behind all the crap on the walls and faux-down-home decor, however, are subpar ingredients that get worse when passed through the oven. Potbelly's sandwiches just gross me out now, and somehow seem consistently wet. Maybe that's because I was getting mine with their extremely crappy giardeniera....either way, I am getting them no more. I will be back for the malts though. They're fine."

[sigh] Sometimes the truth is just so misunderstood.
My point isn't that Potbelly's is some sort of amazing chain that produces better than a mediocre product, its that for what it is its a preferable alternative to Booey's. I can understand why so many are hatin' on me, its hard to go through 4 years on the hilltop and not have fond memories of times at places like Booey's, its that if you take off the blue and grey glasses, you will see the truth that its nothing more than an overpriced, overrated and poorly operated sandwich place that provides food that is mediocre and not worth the price.
Now if I were to say something really stupid, like putting Potbelly's over Wisey's, I would deserve expulsion from GU

Quick Pita kicks both their asses.
I was in there so often they still call me John Walker Lindh.
And yes, I still order "extra anthrax" a joke that they started that was the height of poor taste during that whole suspicious package scare of early 2000.

Quick Pita kicks both their asses. I'm suprised no one brought this up before, for it is true. Not only is the food good but they also have the fastest delivery time in the entire NW quadrant I just finished a chicken madness, but thinking of a beef gyro and chicken shwarma combo will probably get me eating again within the hour

Enjoy all the middle eastern food you can in DC, for it is very hard to find elsewhere. I'm looking squarely at you Boston and San Francisco...you both disappoint me on that front.

But fastest delivery time? First of all, thats like asking who is better, Rutgers or Seton Hall. Delivery around here is painfully slow. I've had some slow delivery experiences from Quick Pita. Also, I feel like it is a little overpriced for a full meal from Quick Pita (which inevitably entails ordering pita and hummus with whatever you get).
