get off your high horses...its students being students, and it happens at every college sporting event across the country (except BYU and the military academies). Stop trying to take the fun out of college games...

Actually its more fun when someone gets hurt! That's the American way! and that type of attitude is the root of the problem as that opinion is certainly not one held by those americans who happen to be in the minority

If we are so concerned as a University about the image that these pictures portray and we all agree that Hoya Blue can't police it and the University shouldn't cut off alcohol sales at Verizon - why was a reporter allowed to go into the student section and randomly take pictures and interview people without someone from the athletic department there to monitor the statements that the students made - just as there is someone there from the ADs office present whenever JTIII, student groups, or players speak to the media?

I have a mental picture of the mascot Mr. Met, except with a basketball head and a sixers uniform You can probably hire him for birthday parties for a few bucks, karaoke included. www.balgavy.com/rotating118.html

Lost in the hubbub of the students' costumes and quotes was this fact: apparently the Verizon ticket gestapo's only weakness is a press pass. I honestly am surprised that this guy was allowed to go anywhere in the arena except his actual, ticketed seat, the concourse, and the bathroom.

Uh, the Verizon student section is not MNF-Iraq. No sane SID would deny the press access to the students.
Anyway. I don't drink (I've never liked the taste). When I was at the G'town games, lots of people did pregame. It did not destroy the republic. All of this "fun and games until somebody gets hurt" is hogwash. Underage drinking, while it remains illegal, is fine if done in moderation. The problem is when a few people either annoy those around them or when they hurt themselves or others.
Now, what to do to minimize the above not happening? Not much you can do. As discussed previously, the issue is drinking beforehand - no college student will get loaded fast enough at Verizon. And I can't imagine a sobriety checkpoint for students to get into the games.
What should be done? The usual. Reminding students to celebrate responsibly, rather than citing DC law on the telscreen. Encouraging students to celebrate without alcohol. And cracking down on idiots who pass out or become belligerent. Basically treat them the same as adults at Verizon. Hoya Blue may have some role to play here as well in ensuring that G'town doesn't travel down the UMD road and that games aren't an excuse to throw up and burn couches - helping GU fans to stay classy.
Personal opinion? Not much different than any other college. People need to be watchful to keep it that way - same as with anything else.

Mrs.Ixer, please stop your nasty habit of responding to every post that disagrees with your own. We all know your opinion...it's posted in writing! Most of the posters here (with a certain Sunshine State exception) are Georgetown grads, and as such most of the posters here understand a well formed argument...you don't need to expound on your point a million times.
And oh yeah, most of the posters here have shown up to a Georgetown game drunk.
By the way, once you're off your high horse, take the time to read Steinberg's response to all the Twerps/shamed "alums" sounding off after the article:

Wow, way to take a funny, light-hearted article about drunk, costumed students at an amazing basketball experience and turn into an article about class, war, rape, and other serious issues.
Let college kids be college kids. Let them have a good time. Seriously, all you people in the fun police need to sit down, have a beer, and learn how to enjoy yourselves, or at least how to appreciate other people enjoying themselves.
The enthusiasm behind Georgetown basketball is incredible right now, and apparently some Georgetown students can drink a lot, have a good time, and be very creative. I think that's the main point behind the article. I thought it was hilarious, especially considering I was working at Copley RHO with "Pikachu" when I started reading this.
