It's Finals time here on the Hilltop, but I for one know I'd rather be doing things other than paper writing and exam cramming. I'd rather be front row at a Georgetown game screaming my lungs out, searching HoyaSaxa.com for links to recaps and boxscores, analyzing and debating our team's performance with my friends, or posting recaps and other such items of analysis on this very message board.
So, in light of this unfortunate time for current Georgetown students, here's our very own thread for finals week. Students, feel free to post here at any time to let off some steam or even better, to procrastinate. Non-students, feel free to make fun of us or commiserate, or both. Last second cramming stories are always welcome.
I know this site and this board are the first places I go to when I should be doing work but don't feel like it. Which means I come here quite often. Anyways, here's to getting through finals week and not failing any classes. Here's to Georgetown! ;D

Shouldn't this be on the 37th and O Board or the Blue and Gray Board? JK...

Each time I was disapointed to see that Bmartin's 8:45 post was the newest one. I imagine I will be here about 20 times over the next 5 hours as I try to write 10 more pages of this paper (25 total) before 5 am so i can take a nap and then get up and revise it under the wire before it is due at 5 pm tommorow (monday)

I will update this post whenever a page is completed in pursuant of the final goal. All the working alumni can laugh at me when they check the boards in the morning. 10 pages to go 9 pages to go 2:22 AM 8 pages to go 3:20 AM Left library at 3:40, Saw Cornelio in one of the rooms studying something after 3 hour nap, ensuing shower and bagel I return the the library to find it just as empty as I left it 7 pages to go 8:28 6 pages to go 10:00, the sun has shown its face for the first time in a few days 4 pages to go 12:07 JEFF GREEN BE POTW! 1-2 pages to go 1:05 On a 25 paper is it ok to only write 23? I feel like a less than 10% deviation from the mark is acceptable. Time to read over the past 40 hours work for the first time.....this could be bad 1 page to go at 3:00 pm, rereading turns out that the paper is only half bad. Need to write a paragraph or two tying things together and a bibliography. Almost there

To all you harried students cramming for finals, please enjoy this story of my very last Georgetown final:
At about 10pm I went to the Tombs for my one beer to complete my 99days requirement. My girlfriend came with me, although she wasn't drinking. In any case by the time I had walked into the bar, the bartender had poured me a pitcher and placed it at my seat, never giving me a chance to tell him that I only wanted 1 beer (I was sorta a regular). Since I had a whole pitcher, I was going to drink a whole pitcher, even though I had no help. So while I drank and watched sportcenter, my girlfriend started talking to the woman next to her. Right as I was finishing my pitcher, this woman got up to leave, with half of her pitcher of Tombs Ale remaining. She offered, and it would have been impolite to refuse, besides I had hours until my 9am final. As I was finishing this one, the bartender (curse/bless him) brought me a new pitcher. Now that I had had 1.5 already, this one seemed like a good idea. At the end of this one it was closing time. Fine, time to go crack the books. Except that now my girlfriend had now had a few and was excited because it looked like the manager was going to let us stay late night (in case this doesn't happen anymore, and I've heard it doesn't, it means that the manager kicks everyone out except the staff members and regulars that they like and everyone drinks free beer until as late as 6am). She had never been invited to stay before, and although I had done it too many times she was tough to say no to (we're now married). Flash forward to 4am. I leave the Tombs and stumble back to Village A202 (I think) where I live. I decide that I ought to start studying now, but realize that I never bought the book. I head over to a friend of mine's place because he is in the same class. After 5 mins of pounding on the door he answers and understanding my plight offers his book, still in the shrink wrap. I ask what his thoughts on the essays are, he tells me and then he heads back to bed. I went home for a 45 minute nap, and then studied until the test at 9, with a brief New South breakfast break. I got a B, headed down to Myrtle beach for senior week, and all is now well, as I type this from my office. Moral of the story kids? Make sure your professor is No Flunkin' Duncan, and everything will turn out alright.

Man I miss those days "studying" at the Tombs. Now I do all my "research" for stupid grad school here in Boston at Mary Anne's. For those of you who know Boston, you know how big a step down that is.
Kill me now.

Shame on you, Former Hoya, for implying to the children currently at GU that it isn't necessary to study THROUGH senior year. I can just imagine the disillusionment setting in for those students who read your post. BOOOOO! My finals story stems from freshman year, when I had a hellacious schedule at the end of the year, something like five exams in the first three days of exam period. As a result, though, I was the first person on my floor to be finished, which led to a few of the others throwing me in the shower with my clothes on.

I'm sure Former did both.
Based on the context of his post, he's either at 2000 classmate of mine, or a '99 or '01. All three of these classes had the grand luck of the 99 Days Club existing and of being able to go to Myrtle Beach for "Beach Week," followed by an on-campus Senior Week.
Apparently the change of graduation from Memorial Day weekend to the 3rd weekend of May has severely curtailed the ability of seniors to get to Beach Week, although I'm sure that several of them are resourceful enough to work it in anyway.
In other news, where was this thread last week when I was studying for my MBA finals? I guess I'll call this my "summer internship applications procrastination thread."

I had a computer science exam in which I showed up just in time. I got in just as the prof was handing out the exams. He saw me come in the door at the front and put an exam down on an empty desk at the back of the room where there was another door. He said, "Why don't you sit back here next to the door. That way you can get out quick when someone starts shooting." I always thought that was funny.

I thought I wouldn't be having late nights anymore since i gradumucated... but even last night I was up till 5 working. So, the working world still can allow for procrastination and late night workathons.
Meanwhile, I look forward to the next Gtown game, reading stats and game breakdown definitely occupies any idle moments. I can't get enough of the Hoyas! I just wish I could go to some games...

December of 1973 during finals
A group of us were huddled in somebody's New South room playing Risk after midnight on a Saturday (we didn't go online then). One of our members wandered glassy-eyed to the window and announced "the Jesuit's house is on fire". He was ignored until the noise of heavy equipment and flashing lights brought us all to the window. The Jesuit residence sandwiched between Ryan and New South was in fact ablaze.
We watched for five minutes before going back to the utterly serious business of world conquest.

Moral of the story kids? Make sure your professor is No Flunkin' Duncan, and everything will turn out alright. Well, DUH! You should have said that at the beginning. I'm surprised you even needed to show up. Good story though. My own story is much, much worse, with regard to my graduate school oral exams. And no, I don't care to share/re-live the experience, thank you very much (think Mel Gibson ... think Braveheart ... think 'Mercy' ... that's all I need to say). But then, that's what I get for going the other direction and having one of the members of my review committee being "No Takee Slakey."

Although far less difficult that what you are probably going through right now, just finished my two hour history final. My wrist is only slightly sore. Two classes down, three more to go, which for interested parties encompasses: -a five-page Political Theory take-home midterm due Thurs -a Criminology final on Blackboard, that's right, online final, baby, that I need to complete by Sunday -two papers of five and three pages, respectively, due Monday for my Ethics & IR class (great class, by the way) And finally, it's cool that you saw Guibunda in the library late at night. Do you think any of the so called student-athletes at, oh, say, SYRACUSE, have ever seen a library? ;D

I'm pretty sure Syracuse doesn't even have a library.
