I assume that we will not play Ball State this year.....
Wow. This is really a shock. What could possibly have happened? The rule violations seem pretty ticky-tac and they were self-reported. Is that enough to can a coach? Or is there something else at play?

It could be the racist threats that were found in his office, and if that is the case I propose that we not only cancel our game against them this year but blacklist them alltogether

Wow. I saw him this past weekend (he was in town recruiting, & we went to GU at same time). He told me he was heading back to Muncie on Tuesday. He was only there for 2 days.

It seems like Ronny was very unpopular - not sure if people didn't give him a chance from the start because of race or if he did a bad job connecting with the BSU community. Many people on their board claim his was arrogant and out of touch with their fan base. One thing I have noticed is that many are implying that the racist notes were planted by the basketball staff which I really think is outrageous since there is no facts to base that on. Articles like this give you a sense of how any idiot can get something printed in a newspaper. www.wabashplaindealer.com/articles/2007/07/12/sports/sports2.txt"Recently, Thompson appeared to have been a victim of racism, due to several notes with insensitive words being slipped into his office. However, according to the police investigation, no signs of forced entry were found. Leaving in question who exactly had access to his office? Other than he that is."

Is it too late in his career to see him as a possible assistant at GU? If so, maybe a struggling big east team that he could turn around, maybe USF or something? That would be kinda cool, to possibly see him and his bro on the floor at BET in the garden and poppa T in the stands...with #33 of course.

Wow, I get the impression that the columnist wasn't a big fan of Ronnie.
"So let's see if we have all of this straight, he loses games (lots of them), recruits kids from California instead of his backyard, and has no use for the NCAA manual?
"Check.
"Check.
"And check.
"The Ball State program is one that over the past 20 years has built a tradition of success, not always by the rule book, not always with squeaky-clean characters, but the kids were often local, and the community supported them. Both the white and the black players.
"Racism is not a factor in Thompson's downfall. It is simply Thompson."

From valpofan56 on espn.com:
"They better not have payed that cheating POS anything to get out of his contract! Just about everyone knows he wrote the notes himself because he wanted to get out of his contract with a buyout! What a worthless excuse for a coach!"
Maybe valpofan56 = columnist Tom Davis?

From the Ball State message boards, one of the issues that irritated their fans was recruiting, specifically for not signing local kids, which is even more important than usual at a school in Indiana. The incoming class included three JC products and two prep school kids, including one from Lutheran Christian in Philadelphia. Also, they lost Ahmaad Cook (Ashanti's brother) in May, who enrolled at a junior college.
Thr BSU fans may have jumped to conclusions from the initial police report that there was no sign of forced entry in the area where the notes were placed under the coach's office. The official report is expected to be announced next week, so it's best to put that issue aside for now.

I also found a detailed discussion of minivans and whether superman was a murderer in the life section of the Ball State Daily News.

But the writer, Mr. Davis, makes the long-accepted point that there are no recruits in Ohio, Virginia, or California who can measure up to those hailing from Muncie, Pendleton Heights, or Kokomo. How can you build a program with, gawd, out of state players?

But the writer, Mr. Davis, makes the long-accepted point that there are no recruits in Ohio, Virginia, or California who can measure up to those hailing from Muncie, Pendleton Heights, or Kokomo. How can you build a program with, gawd, out of state players? Ball State is a regional university where 90% of students (and 87,000 of its alumni) live in the state of Indiana, so maintaining ties with local schools and recruits are very important. That doesn't mean you can't recruit out of state, but for public schools the local mandate can't be ignored, either.
