I was also thinking the Bobby Bonilla scenario makes a lot of sense here. At this point stretch it out and make him Coach Emeritus for life. Please with no actual power though!

This feels like malfeasance.

If Ewing is retained, it cannot be interpreted in any other way than the school is not interested in being a big-time hoops program anymore.

That postgame quote is a sliver of hope.

Yet another local recruit that we let get away.

Great point! Also might help explain why the coaches don't seem as perturbed - on the sideline, in press conferences - as one might expect given the circumstances.
I mean if you were absolutely desperate to win as a coach, wouldn't you experiment with anything at this poiint - e.g. mix up defenses, etc. We see little evidence of any of this, and it's one of the many things that is hard to understand.

We are literally at rock bottom as a program and the 'solution' is to bring in a retread, scandal-ridden assistant whose recruiting prime was 15 years ago?!? You can't even make this up.
And at some point you do have to question our so-called commitment to academics. You start with all the transfers and dismissals. Now we potentially bring in a guy who engaged in academic fraud. And the admin is ok with this? What are we doing?
This really isn't hard. You clean house, hire the best guy out there, and take your chances.

If Ronny is still there, this is all a moot point. Again, why does this guy still have any role or power in the program?

I saw in the postgame comments that Ewing's message to fans is 'keep on believing'.....memo to Coach, no one is believing anymore!

Friends of mine - who are fellow Hoya fans and who figured out much earlier that Ewing wasn't the right guy - told me that winning the Big East was the worst thing that could have happened. I didn't want to believe it. Now we know it's true.

This is pathetic! I'm still holding out hope that the powers that be come to their senses. The level of apathy next year would be unprecedented.

I agree, it's incomprehensible. Are we committed to winning? Every other team in the Big East, let alone the ACC, SEC, etc. is doing every single thing they can do to win. It wouldn't even be a question right now anywhere else. If we are not all in we will never be a serious contender again.

None of the announcers are willing to say what we all know should be said. I guess there's no upside for them.

Any organization starts with a 'purpose'. If Ewing comes back there is a clear, demonstrated lack of commitment to winning as a purpose. Actions speak louder than words. At that point I don't know how the program keeps it's remaining, dwindling fanbase.

Yes, that's why Ewing can't come back next year. Anything will be better than this year and will be positioned as a sign of progress, thereby guaranteeing even more years.

Exactly - why are we dealing with Ronny at this point?

If he has 'strong support internally' we are a complete joke. I can't think of anyone in my extended network of Gtown fans (alums) - and most are legit hoops/sports fans - who would be supportive of bringing Ewing back. I mean not one person out of like 25 or so people . Going further, I honestly can't recall one scenario as a sports fan where there was such complete agreement that the coach has to go.
