Chris Mullin. You can't tell the story of the Big East without those Georgetown/St. John's games. Also, the 1982 NCAA tournament was really a coming-out party for the conference with 3 BE teams (GU, BC, and Villanova) in the regional finals.

Grinnell's huge endowment is due in large part to the long-ago purchase of Intel stock (an alumnus was a founder) and investment advice from Warren Buffet. Georgetown has not had that type of luck.

Perhaps it’s time to separate the head coaching jobs for men’s and women’s tennis. As this case shows, there is a ton of moral hazard in letting one person control that many admission slots.

I was at Duke in the late 80's and the story of that UNC game was a well-told tale. I believe that when UNC shot free throws the Duke students were silent, but they held up a sign that said "Please Miss." Gad, I dislike Duke basketball.

This is the worst possible timing for DePaul, which runs the risk of being eclipsed by their neighbor 11 stops up the Red Line.

For what it's worth, Holy Cross is fighting a better fight to save the name Crusaders than others. In 2000, Wheaton College outside Chicago (the alma mater of Billy Graham) changed from Crusaders to Thunder.
An aside, nicknames that are singular nouns are almost uniformly awful.

This sounds like Holy Cross copied the playbook of the University of Illinois. The U of I dropped the image of Chief Illiniwek, but was able to retain the name Illini, which was way more important to the institution.
Also the Knights of Malta are an interesting organization. Alsthough they are a charitable organization today, they formerly were a very effective military order that fought the Ottoman Empire throughout the 16th Century for control of the Mediterranean. They lost their stronghold at Rhodes to the Ottomans, they withstood a horrific siege at Malta, and then provided part of the Papal/HRE fleet that won the decisive Battle of Lepanto.

Striking talent runs in the Dodson family. His older sister is all-SEC at Auburn.

NCAA cannot stop corruption and bribery in college sports and it refuses to punish academic fraud. What is it good for besides cashing checks from television networks?

The arena at McCormick Place is a disaster. $173 million is a ridiculous price for 10,000 seats. Although DePaul is the "anchor tenant" (and is paying like one) the project is really being driven by Emanuel's desire to upgrade McCormick Place. DePaul will get bigfooted on scheduling in favor of convention uses. Good luck trying to schedule a basketball game in late November when the radiologists are in town.
Ironically, UIC has a nice little arena on its campus west of the Loop. DePaul probably could have rented that space for a song.

A great loss to the university. Fr. Walsh was an outstanding teacher and a Renaissance man. At the Tropaia during my graduation he made a joke that referenced the surrealist silent movie Un Chien Andalou, and he brought down the house. That's a bit of comedy skill that few could pull off. Lux perpetua luceat eo.
