Cue the "these things always work themselves out" mantra. Possible that given the McDermott/Creighton and Drummond/UConn situations, Ryan could play as a non-scholarship. He took a official so he would have to be a scholarship player Yeah I forgot that.

Kyle Gauss 07/29/20 7:04 pm Originally considered a heavy Georgetown lead, Arizona State has done a great job making an extra push over the last few days and now seems poised to secure Billingsleyβs commitment. That is a Tenacious prediction.

Maybe Ryan has already informed the coaches he will be going elsewhere. Maybe coaches already know someone will leave after this year. Cue the "these things always work themselves out" mantra. Possible that given the McDermott/Creighton and Drummond/UConn situations, Ryan could play as a non-scholarship.

I would put Robinson in every time. Assuming we get Robinson on our roster.ππ I meant our walk-on, who IMO more than held his own when he played in limited minutes for a short-handed team. I will agree he seemed decent in limited minutes - but I don't think he should see any regular minutes if Blair is off.

That's the case nearly everywhere except for Duke. It could be that way at Kentucky but Calipari is a self-promoting ass that chooses to get as many top 10 guys, regardless of fit, because, with or without him, they'll get drafted. Somehow, he's snowed enough people that that, apparently, reflects well on him. That's a different discussion. In any case, in 99% of the rest of the programs, the "hot stove" reference applies. It's neither specific to the Hoyas nor to this year. Talent is great. Fit is nearly equally important. Usually, when a program is rebuilding, they shoot for the first one because getting both is REALLY difficult. We are at the point where you take the best talent and work on/hope for the fit. Getting guys like Jordan in the door, hopefully, begins to change that position and narrative. Why are you responding to a BOT post? Don't you know DFW has an algorithm in place to automatically queue up the sad trombone after any optimistic news or posts? πππππ Bravo!

1) I think Pickett definitely. Aside from him maybe Carey? I like his size (6'5, I believe) but it's hard for me to know exactly how his defense will translate going from mid-major to Big East competition. Blair showed some progress on defense last season, so we'll see if he can continue that growth going into this year 2) I'd go with Blair, Pickett, and Carey. Dante Harris and Berger look like they'll be good shooters, but I have to respect the players that are proven shooters at the college level Blair is a question mark from 3. He's averaged 33% each of his 3 years at GU with super high usage. I don't think he will be one of the top 3 3-pt shooters on the team. That said, Blair will play a lot because he's a senior and captain in a roster full of new faces, plus his experience under Pat will be key. But, with so many guards on the roster and Pickett able to slide to the 3, Blair will need to improve his 3% and his defense or someone else will sit him. He cannot shoot 1 of 8 or 2 of 14 and still be on the floor, even if it means sitting him down for a freshman, going with Pickett at the 3 or putting Robinson in. IMO, of the experienced college players, Pickett, Carey and Bile are three better shooters than Blair. Maybe better shot selection, not rushing it and having the legs at the end of the season will help him improve his 3%, but we do not have the luxury of him shooting 3s to see if he gets out of a shooting slump. I'd rather see him sit down and try someone else in the green-light role. I would put Robinson in every time. Assuming we get Robinson on our roster.ππ

I think this is still the rule: Men's basketball is limited to 13 "counters" (i.e., either a recruited athlete or someone who receives athletic aid). Ryan Mutombo is a "counter" because we have recruited him so whether his father can afford Georgetown's exorbitant tuition, room and board is not relevant to whether there's slot for him if he is a "counter." I think if someone was recruited for athletic ability, they become a counter regardless of whether aid is awarded or not. Someone correct me if I have this wrong. My only reference point is Drummond at UConn - which was back in 2011 so the rule may have been changed. UConn had commitments from 11 players but only 10 scholarships allowed (the stolen laptop debacle?). Drummond ended up giving up his scholarship and played as a walk-on. The University stated that the NCAA had indicated that "a recruited player can pay his own way [and not be counted against scholarship limits] as long as any and all aid received is non-institutional". So the claim was that Drummond's family paid his freshman year (although Calhoun was involved, so . . .)

Youβre not the only one. Well that's the case for every commitment at every school, until they sign an LOI. And nowadays even after that. So having to mention seems just an attempt to undercut any positive developments.

Riley's commitment is great. It's the possible second year of Carey's commitment that I think creates issues for recruiting in 2021. I know it's not probably not going to happen at this point but wow : Fair point, but of course recruiting is often a gamble. Do we pass on Carey because it could knock us out of the picture for any '21 guard who is looking for immediate PT? Focusing on Murray, there was a general thought that he pushed back to '21 in the hope bigger suitors come calling, so who knows where we stand with him anyway. So do we pass on Carey and then be left short when Murray goes elsewhere? Or is it better to take Carey who will only be available right now (and who also brings experience that we need next season) and forego even the possibility of Murray or other '21 guards. Same for your mention of Beard vis a vis Riley. Riley certainly appears to be a big enough catch that you take him and just hope that nothing changes with Beard.

Playing time is a zero sum system. I wonder if Beard shows up now. Could anything positive result from your post? Please refrain. I am more concerned about TC than perturbed. It took him 14 hours to spin a negative out of Riley's commitment. The TC we all know and love would have been all over it within the hour.ππ

It is so nice to see our board guys with some enthusiasm and in good spirits. With all the positive chatter going on in the threads, it seems like everyone is happy now. Yaaaaay! Savor the flavor while it lasts. We will be at each other's virtual throats again soon!

What number will Don take this year since Blair has 0 on lock. He teased 2 in his intro video. I wouldn't mind another 5, have we had a guard in the 5 uniform since Chris Wright? Am I getting really feeble or didnβt Wright wear number 4? Those are not mutually exclusive.π

This late in the offseason the staff is gonna bring in anyone who they can help so I don't begrudge the move. It's just perplexing that people think this changes our projection for next year or adding a low profile local transfer is the start of some local recruiting momentum. I want something to be optimistic about in the worst way. We're probably not even going to have basketball this year, so I don't know why people are itching for some complaint about this. Wait, there might not be a hoops season??π±
