I will be there in Section 123. Dan McQ, GPHoya and a bunch of other Boston-area Hoyas will be in Section 231. If I can get down there in time I would love to meet up for a drink or two before the game if someone suggests a good spot. I am looking for a performance like our last game in New England (12-29-08).

Have we heard from buckeye70 yet? I know, that's right, he only comes by after Nova wins to tell us how great we are anyway.

Mark it down. We are winning this game. Even though I don't know you, I would like to take comfort in your confidence, although I did after reading a similar statement from GIGAFAN (who I do know and who really knows college hoops) prior to Wednesday's game and we know how that turned out. Hope you are right.

A loss and the Hoyas are an extremely mediocre 6-5 in conference, and really hurt their chances for top 4 in the league. This is the most important game of the year to date- almost a must win if this team has any real aspirations- and my guess is that III knows it. They'll come out with some severe fire and get the W. GO HOYAS! I'm still saying 12-6 at the end of the Big East slate. Don't know if that gets us in the top 4, but it seems realistic right now. That said, last night was just a horrid loss, and it came at a terrible time. It's not that USF is terrible (they're not), it's just that teams that are going to contend for a championship (conference or otherwise) simply do not lose games like that. It was enough to make me temper my expectations considerably. I still think this team can have a solid season, but my pre-USF delusions of net-cutting in NYC and a trip to Indy are simply unrealistic for this group. I believe that 12-6 gets you the 4th seed and a 2 round bye. But I think 12-6 is now going to be very difficult after last night's loss. Last night's game, in my view, was the 2nd "easiest" of our back 9 (with @rutgers being the easiest and home v. ND maybe being very close to USF). Going 6-2 the rest of the way is going to be challenging, to say the least.

1. Inattention to defense (Clark) This is a joke, right? Jason shadowed him the whole night and did a really solid job. He got a bunch of points in the 2nd half (including on some wild shots that went down and a bunch of free throws). Suggesting that one of the problems tonight was an "inattention to defense" by Clark is bizarre. Agree with your other points.

Why doesn't JohnnyJungle come by anymore to tell us how great the Johnnies are and how unimpressed he is with the Hoyas?

Plus, if these team has any thoughts of taking the BE Tourney Title, it is going to be a LOT easier for a team with a short bench to win three than four. Amen. This RPI talk is pretty useless. We're #4 right now and taking care of business still puts in the top 10. An additional big win doesn't make any difference. We'd be a #2 or #3 seed either way. But win the BET and you have a shot at a #1. The only way to do that with a 7-man rotation is to start Thursday. Thanks Giga. It is good to know that you have all of the answers on this and we can all just look to you to tell us how it is.

You know aside from the Hoyas trying to finish above Pitt in the Big East standings why in the world should we root for USF? If they beat Pitt they simply gain more confidence going into their game against GU and the Hoyas' victory over Pitt looks increasingly less impressive. With that said this game between Pitt and USF is an ugly slugfest with penalties galore. It will take 3 hours for this game to play out it seems. I have struggled with this today as well. I have not factored in the USF confidence issue (and don't give it much weight for Wed.), but BE standings (i.e. getting a top 4 seed and a 2 day bye for BET) v. value of the @ Pitt win is tough. I was leaning in favor of BE standings (and listening to a portion of the game on XM Radio with the terribly annoying Pitt announcers made it easier to root for USF). I just hope the loss doesn't drop PItt out of the top 25 RPI. Our 4-2 in top 25 RPI games looks really good.

USF was just up 11 on Pitt 12 minutes in, although Pitt just went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6. Regardless of the outcome, USF is playing pretty well of late and we need a strong game Wednesday. No let down.
USF v. Pitt is on MASN right now FYI.

Big Dog - thanks for taking the time to put all of that together. While it was painful to relive, I also in a weird way enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I can remember where I watched each of those games - in particular, being at the RAC for that awful OT loss and being at Conte for the blowout of BC. I remember that 2002 season so well. I think most of us were convinced that we would have had a bid if we had beaten Miami in that BET quarterfinal game (am I correct in remembering that was the game Harvey T. threw a ball out of bounds in the last 20 seconds to seal our fate?) I also remember everyone getting really worked up Selection Sunday night when BC got a bid and we didn;t (after what we had done to them at Conte). That of course became back page news in HoyaLand as word spread about GU turning down the bid to the NIT.

Can't we just call those years "The Void"? The Void it is then. So many painful memories. Whenever people complain about the "negative" posters after a loss I always think back to February 20, 2002, "Black Tuesday" for HoyaTalk. Those on the Board at that time probably don't even need to go back to the archives to refresh their memories of the game the night before. For those unfamiliar: 38.5 seconds left, UConn with the ball up 75 - 74 and 35 on the shot clock. UConn brings it across halfcourt and starts to just run the shot clock (and game clock) out. After about 10 seconds of this, it starts to become clear what the Coach believes is the correct strategy in this situation, and Hoya fans around the world start screaming in unison at their TVs "you've got to foul here, you've got to foul here ...dear God, please foul!" No such luck. The shot goes up with 4 seconds left, GU gets the rebound but only with enough time for a dribble or two and a 3/4 court heave that has no chance. I think DFW may have had to even shut down the Board for a few hours the next day it got so bad. Those were the days. The Void.

The '97 team was pretty blah, though, to begin with. So, I guess I am with BD on that one. Once Iverson left, you could see that a page had turned. I cant remember that good of a win in all of 97, honestly. Mainly, that was because they jacked up the Big East and put us in the division where we were fighting for the title with Providence. Ewww. I am assuming that the reference to a "page" turning in '97 was intentional - I liked it. I have always thought of the horrible performance against Charlotte in the 1st round of the '97 NCAAs as the beginning of the dark period.

When we beat Duke in two weeks, Please Don't rush the Court. Show Class as it was EXPECTED that we would beat them. Go Hoyas-Quiet the Devils. My god this post scares me. Can some of the current students on the Board confirm that there is NO chance that the student section would storm the court if we win on 1-30. There is a good chance we will be favored to win that game.

5) I'm saying this in a positive way rather than to take anything away from the hustle and effort we're getting Vee/Hollis/Sims, but I think Benimon is best bench player right now. You are right and it's not even close.

If you're looking for another project, I'd be curious to know what Greg's (or the whole team's) FT% is on the front end of one-and-ones, compared to FTs as a whole. I'd love to tell you, but I can't. I can track all the missed front ends of 1-and-1's, but can't distinguish between times when someone made the front end versus a regular two shot foul. I.e., the play-by-play doesn't indicate if the foul was on a shot or on the floor. Sorry. Couldn't you just go back and watch every game on tape and do it by hand? I thought you were dedicated?!!!
