Thought it would be worth noting its a big weekend for the Porter family. Not only is Otto playing in the NCAA tournament, but some of his cousins have taken SCC back to the state championship game which will be played later today. SCC is looking for their 4th straight title and 16th overall. www.standard-democrat.com/story/1826675.html

Maybe it's because I'm a new Hoya fan and haven't had to suffer the heartbreak of the last few seasons, but I'm less nervous about this game/matchup and more anxious to see this beatdown of Belmont.

I'm thinking a 3-2 matchup zone extended out with our bigger line up in. The second Markel gets burned he's out of the game for Jabril/Greg. I think our 2-3 zone has been solid with Henry in the middle being loud, however I don't think we can drop down to a 2-3 unless the lead is comfortable and we're just trying to slow the pace Have we played an actual 3-2 matchup zone at any point this year? Do think it's wise to try something completely new in the tournament? I've watched every game and don't recall any use of the 3-2. The only zone used has been a 2-3, although just like skinning a cat, there have been multiple ways it's been done. There's been situations where the Hoyas have packed it in to clog penetration, others where they have spread it out to cover the perimeter, other times where they've matched up out of it, and few timed when they've even trapped out of it. Now I do think this group is smart enough and communicates well enough to try a 3-2. But because of those same characteristics I think they could be just as effective with the 2-3.

I never understood how he was able to regain his eligibility by (according to what pple were saying) doing more work to bring up a bad grade he already was given for the fall semester.

FWIW, I thought "The Experts" show on ESPNU last night actually offered some sound and reasoned analysis, not just of our opening game, but of the brackets overall. Funny how that seems to happen when you get a bunch of players and coaches (who aren't slobbering media hounds) together to discuss the games. As for GU-Belmont, most of them were pretty high on Georgetown (most were pretty high on Georgetown throughout, but I don't want to bring up anything other than Friday's game...because I'm me). Wanna' guess which panelist sounded most like an idiot and couldn't back up any of his predictions with solid game or statistical analysis? Yup....Joe Lunardi. Everone else was very good, for the most part. In conclusion, it occurs to me that someone may have already posted this earlier in the thread, but I don't care all that much. ;D Lunardi should already be on vacation. He is not a basketball guy....he job is solely based on projecting what the Selection Committee with do. There's nothing wrong with that at all....guy found his niche and has made a good living at doing it....but he's not the kind of guy that understands the intricacies of the game and how teams matchup with each other on the floor, only how the Selection Committee values wins/losses/rpi etc.

My bulldog George has the same thing but it's just a partial tear - we've delayed surgery to see if it heals itself but they say the worst part is the recovery period (8-10 weeks) and trying to keep them quiet so they don't tear up the repair. Best of luck to my buddy Jack & Father Chris. And Father Chris has ruled that it is OK to say a prayer for dogs. One thing to watch with the partial tear is how much they favor that leg. With my bulldog, he had a partial tear that we had wanted to see if it would heal before surgery. What ended up happening is that he lost muscle tone/strength in that leg because he favored it too much. If I had to do it over again I would have went ahead and had the tightrope surgery before the complete tear to minimize recovery time. Its a less invasive surgery (they don't even go into the knee) that is meant to stabilize the joint and is a lot cheaper than TTA or TPLO surgery.

There are apparently promo codes out there that you can put in to watch the games for free. Here is one of them that I have seen (though haven't tried yet). "Text 0Mizzou (that is zero Mizzou) to 2653 and you'll get a code from Coke Zero to watch the games for free." So who is going to try it first? There is no reason it SHOULD be free, and $4 isnt alot, but its an odd time to start charging. Usually it goes the other way: pay first then it becomes free. I think they chose this year because every game is on TV so they want to push people to watch that. I dont have work those days (well technically I work from home and make my own hours) so I can jump around to watch all I want. But I was looking forward to setting up a second screen to watch more game than once. Cant do that now because I dont have a second cable box. Will probably go for an "illegal" feed (really all charging will do is push people back to illegal means). Just tried it and it sent me the promo code and where to go to enter it (ncaa.com/cokezero). I've also downloaded the CBS March Madness App for my phone so I should also be able to watch games on it as well. Won't know for sure until the games tomorrow.

Yup best of luck to our mascot and his keeper. Jack tore his ACL .. he is getting canine orthopedic consult wed. .. get well soon Jack ... Hope he's ok and i guess its ok to pray for a dog especially our jack. Tough break, though he should be fine in 6-8 weeks. My old english bulldog just had ACL surgery (tightrope technique) about a month ago after he tore it while (I kid you not) getting on the couch. He is getting around great already, though still has a slight limp. Most difficult thing about it is to make sure he doesn't over do it.

This has to be the most joyless fanbase of a three seed in the history of the tournament. If you can't enjoy this week, what's the point of being a fan? If the Hoyas lose, there will be plenty of time to whine/complain/etc. Until then... I totally agree, it is like the board is pre-empting the loss by expecting it. It ain't going to hurt any less if you try to anticipate it. Meanwhile, I am going to remain seated in reality-ville and realize this is a top team in the Big East playing some A-Sun team that depsite all the yapping about, has not beaten ANYBODY! We are the better team, period. Enough with the stats, they have not played anyone in 2 months! So all those stats are meaningless. What would the Hoyas stats be if we competed in the A-Sun this season? Come'on everyone grow a pair and support the team with the swagger they deserve! They have had a great year for the fans, how can we provide so little confidence in them. +1

I smiled a little when I saw Pat Forde's pick of Detroit over Kansas in the 1st round (I refuse to call the play in games "1st round"). While I admit it is very unlikely to happen, KU teams under Bill Self seem to have the most trouble with "mid-major" programs in the NCAA tournament. With Detroit and possibly St. Mary's opening weekend opponents, I wouldn't be too surprised to not see them even make it to St. Louis.
2005 - 1st round loss to Bucknell 2006 - 1st round loss to Bradley 2007 - 3pt win over Southern Illinois in Sweet 16 2009 - 10pt first round win over North Dakota State 2010 - 2nd round loss (as #1 seed) to Northern Iowa 2011 - 10pt loss to VCU

Not sure how KU is going to get the #2 seed in the Midwest over Mizzou. They split the head to head, KU won the regular season, MU won the tourny title, Mizzou had better record versus top 50 and top 25 teams.
On the flip side that could be good for the Hoyas. That just means the #2 seed in the Midwest won't be there by the sweet 16 and the #1 seed UNC (who is hot/cold anyway) may not be 100% with Henson's injury.

If Louisville is a 4.....no way the Hoyas are any lower than that.
