Is there any concern that Brey (whom I, for one, most definitely do not want) would be willing to tolerate Ronny and that that would give him an advantage over others? Talk about a lose lose. My understanding is the opposite. There is a faction of GU hoop alum that feels frozen out by Ronny that is very supportive of Brey and he will likely be able to mend bridges with the Georgetown players---some of whom are probably angling to get involved with the program again in some form or fashion (coaching or admin staff). I don't want Brey either but I think Amaker and Dawkins are the two to worry about for your Ronny scenario---both desperately want the job and would likely tolerate Ronny---not sure Brey wants it. That’s good, anyway. Either of the other two scenarios would be absurd; a declaration that this sport is not a priority for Georgetown. In that case let’s just de-emphasize it and leave the Big East.

At one time, in the heyday of college hoops, Francesa was CBS TV’s behind the scenes expert, feeding information to the likes of Jim Nantz. They thought so much of his knowledge that, eventually, they put him in front of the camera. He sagaciously bet Don Imus that Seton Hall would make the Final Four. Imus was to give Francesa a Porsche if that happened. That happened. Francesa let Imus off the hook.

Barry Svrluga had a Q&A re DMV sports at WAPO today. In answer to a question about when will Ewing be fired: This has to end. I wrote that more than a month ago, but it has been apparent for longer than that. I'd trust Georgetown to do it in a way that doesn't embarrass arguably the greatest player in program history, though I would say that Ewing has seemed defiant. It's clear he cares, and it'll be interesting to see if they're able to quickly and amicably come to a conclusion on the best way to put a bow on his career there. The question you ask is bedeviling: Who is the right person to bring Georgetown back to national (or even local) prominence? More than that, can it be done? Tommy Amaker, the current Harvard coach and Fairfax native, makes some sense to me. He grew up here when the Hoyas were in their salad days (though he ended up playing at Duke) and would have a great feel for what the program once was but also has experience coaching at a rigorous academic institution. One thing that seems clear: Whoever's next can't be chosen simply because he has ties to John Thompson Jr. The late coach's imprint can still be felt on the program, and it feels like there needs to be a clean break. Never heard of this guy (Out of the area since graduation) but his take just seems way too influenced by the fact that he’s a local. I wouldn’t put much stock in it.

At this rate it’s all but out of the question.

If we get Pitino never again will we be embarrassed on the basketball court…..Unless, of course, he decides to change suits at halftime. That was embarrassing.

It would be more convenient just to get a house in Georgetown and walk to campus. Indeed. But I don’t know how much he likes living on that golf course. Oh, he’s keepin, the crib.

Would any program in the country hire Ronny Thompson at a quarter of what GU pays him to do whatever it is he does at Georgetown?

Georgetown drops from #3 to #12 in IL Media Poll. Johns Hopkins jumps from #29 to #6. Don't mention it, Blue Jays.

Ohio U. type game turned in by Hoyas in opener; mailed it in against a mediocre Johns Hopkins team losing 13-12 (Hoyas 7.5 goal favorite). Only Bundy and Dordevic looked good, and that was early. Highly touted transfer goalie Hincks looked meh to me (saved at 50%). Would not be surprised to see Scharfenberger get time soon. Assuming we make the tournament this one will not help our seeding.

Sean Miller is showing what is possible when someone who can coach is handed the reins.
(He also got the assist on “Send it in, Jerome”. Very few people know that).

Because it could happen. And we talk about pretty much everything. If that’s the hire, the mods can shut my account down. I’m out. Ditto And the same really goes for any scenario where Ronny stays. Because that will mean we hired a coach who will do his bidding. And that would rule out all coaches worth their salt.

Could there be a better definition of “win win” than clearing the Ronny cost?
