A cynical take on this is that he is trying to take control of the news cycle to distract from more pressing public concerns.

It is important to clearly define what screening and testing mean. The president clearly did not understand the distinction when he said that “testing” was being done when people board planes coming back to the US.
Screening: checking for fever and asking about symptoms and possible exposure. This can be done fairly quickly. If screening is positive, then testing is done.
Testing: oral or nasal swab sent for a lab test (PCR) which typically takes about 2 hours to process. This can be delayed if the swab samples need to be sent to a centralized lab that is not local to your community.

Like it or not, Trump’s words and actions in response to this crisis have only caused more anxiety, frustration, and division in the country.
When given the opportunity to have his “My fellow Americans moment...,” it resulted in more uncertainty and panic rather than reassurance.
I think this situation would have been challenging for any person in the WH. But Trump’s insistence to only pass the buck rather than demonstrating true leadership has been disheartening.

BTW, I hope you sense the sarcasm in my statement.
His decision not to get tested despite recently being in close contact with an infected person is very curious. It seems that decisions by the White House medical staff is being more strongly influenced by politicians and not health care professionals.

For those who support the president's views and actions during this health crisis, I kindly invite you to shake his hand or give him a hug to congratulate him on a job well done.

Likely too late in the game, but the staff may want to check out Kai Sotto from The Skills Factory (TSF) in Atlanta. Interest/offers from Kentucky, GTech, Auburn, and DePaul. He has also gotten interest from some EuroBasket clubs.
He is an intriguing 7'2" prospect from the basketball crazed nation of the Philippines. Now being called the next Yao Ming. He has a slight build and average athleticism. He is quite skilled (3-point range, mature post-op game, good passer, and decent handle). Was coached this summer by Chuck Person.
Despite his height, he has mostly been utilized as a stretch 4 at TSF. Recent Youtube videos have shown that he has learned to be more assertive - no longer being pushed around in the post - now able to grab rebounds in traffic consistently and finish at the rim with bad intentions.
Georgetown may have appeal as he attended and played for a Jesuit high school in Manila before coming to the States. His father who stands 6'7" was a first round pick in the Philippine pro league in the 90's.
I think he could do damage playing with Qudus.

He has made the cynical calculation that the American people will not care what happens to the Kurdish people.

It is amazing to me that some folks on this board continue to insist that the current administration's rhetoric and policies is the same snake oil peddled by Democrats and Republicans that have come before.
No, sir/madam, this is different.
If you cannot acknowledge that Trump's messaging is different in form, substance, and delivery, then you have forfeited the opportunity for reasonable debate.

Actually, I think yesterday’s performance demonstrated the unhealthy alliance shared by Trump and Barr. I hire only the besties, indeed!

Admittedly, I have not seen Duke play all year. I saw some of their games in the tournament where Zion and Barrett looked very imposing and impressive. But since the start of the season, they seemed to have been touted as the best assembled freshmen since the Michigan Fab Five. Perhaps eclipsing that team even.
Michigan State being a good team and Izzo being an HOF coach notwithstanding, how does Duke not get to the Final Four with such an abundance of talent on their roster and a wealth of experience on their bench?
I only ask because of the ubiquity and volume of the hype surrounding their freshman class heralded by the next great one, Zion Williamson.

If it is indeed a “total exoneration” of the president as the press secretary has proclaimed, then I suppose the administration would have no meaningful objection to releasing the full report to Congress?

This mess reminds us that elections have consequences.
Let’s see if the next election cycle will reveal the same about lying and corruption.
