We don't currently have a viable core talent wise for a good team let alone an elite team. The guys we have are reserves or sixth men on good teams. Agree above if we want to be elite again, we need at least one or two elite talents. It looks like we have good freshman talent coming in: in order for it to be transformational we need solid transfer portal guys as well. TBH, none of those transfer portal guys mentioned look like transformational talents either. Hopefully the freshman/portal talent upgrade next year will allow us to get into the tournament and we will leverage the upward trajectory to get a couple of elites the following year. Also, we need much better overall shooting talent. Maybe Sorber turns out to be an NBA talent level guy and that would be a start--hard to tell, could see it either way. Trying to start totally from scratch is hard. I'm sure Cooley regrets several of his personnel moves. I'm still positive on Cooley but I think showing a lot of progress next year will be critical. Certainly see what your saying about talent but don't totally agree... I guess I am not necessarily saying something completely different as I don't think any of the current roster could be a cornerstone to an elite team... But I do think surrounded by better talent Epps and Styles could be an excellent #3 or #4 options in a starting lineup or you surround Brumbaugh with 3-4 very good starters I do think he is a cabapable starting PG...

Bristol - I assume has one more year and I assume he is back and is a great glue guy off the bench for any team looking to have depth and be successful. I don't think this is true, at least from the vibes from that podcast this week. I'm also not sure about his eligibility situation, whether he needs another waiver after this year. Thanks. I haven't listened yet. I wasn't aware...

My 2 cents...I always said this year would be a free pass...that being said I...I felt that way under the belief we would not be the same trainwreck we had been the 2 seasons prior...I am not going to be calling for Cooley's head already next year...but I do all of a sudden feel next year becomes pretty critical that you absolutely must start moving in the right direction...
Epps, Brumbaugh, Styles and Cook - assuming they will all be back next year and then with that assumption there are no more excuses about not having a core of some type in place. He specifically targeted these guys for future success.
Heath and Massoud - Heath was not his guy. Massoud is gone next year and just didn't work out. Feels like addition by subtraction
Fielder - another building block/core player. Now has a year in the system.
Bristol - I assume has one more year and I assume he is back and is a great glue guy off the bench for any team looking to have depth and be successful.
Sorber/Mulready/McKenna/Williams - I personally have super high hopes for this class. Between talent and success in HS very real possibility they are contributing meaningful minutes already in year 1.
Transfer Market - Cooley needs to do well here. I am fine with what he brought in here this past season with the exception of Massoud. He has to be successful and should be in year 2 on the transfer market.
Depth - no excuses next year. Core guys, impact freshman, etc - we should have 9-10 guys that can contribute. No more worries about foul trouble, no more excuses about not having the ability to match-up, no reason you can't pull a guy that is not playing well during a game because there is no bench. Depth should be an immediate upgrade.
Big East - will not be as strong as it is this year. I am almost positive of that.
Cooley needs to impress in year 2. I'm not looking for championships ...really it's crazy at this point what I will take is playing meaningful games in February/March and talk around being a bubble team and as a fan at this point I will take that. Yes low bar but it would increase my enjoyment around the program immensely.

He’s never going to be a lockdown guy one on one, and he's doesn't have big size to contest outside shots well, so he's never going to be good, but he's far from our worst. The UVa coach, who has the #3 defense in the NCAA, took Dante Harris precisely for his defense and quickness, and Dante is 6’1” on a good day. It’s not about size at PG in college basketball. Well to be fair that is accurate but he brought him in to be a back-up PG for 15 minutes a night and defend against the other team's backup's for the most part. Also I am not sure they are thrilled with what they have gotten he has been absolutely awful for them offensively. 28% FG - 13% 3pt - 50% FT - I mean that is just beyond bad. He fits a role I guess as a good ACC backup guard defensively...but that's not asking much...

As was shown to me by another poster ... watch Massoud on that play. He runs to the corner where there is no Depaul player, then helplessly watches and backs away as DePaul almost wins. The biggest problem I have with him at this point is he now also brings zero offense. Look if anyone watched any of him at K State you knew what you were getting...a 6' 8" guy who does not rebound or play much defense that is really more of a 3 BUT can knock down 3's at a very effective rate...except he is not doing that one thing anymore. This is not a typo...over the last 6 games he has played 90 minutes...he has scored 6 points and has 16 fouls...that is on 10% shooting...he is just been plain awful. Fielder has played 55 minutes over those last 6 games. Yes I realize that Fielder is primarily subbing in for Cook and I assume that is where Cooley must see him long term BUT are you telling me when we go into that 3-2 zone we can't have Cook and Fielder as the base instead of Massoud or someone else? The answer is we can... I am not saying all of a sudden we become defensive juggernauts but I will take Fielder's offense and willingness to try on defense over anything Massoud is doing now. Fielder is already a better PF then he is. That's a fact. I feel bad for Massoud I am sure he thought he was going to be a key piece this season on at least a competitive team and that hasn't happened but we shouldn't compound that issue by having him take up minutes that Fielder could grow with. ...and if the argument is well he's a Center and Cook has been decent than tell me what happens next season if Cook is still here? Fielder continues to get 10-15 minutes a night for another season? Good luck keeping him around after that. He is better than Massoud at everything right now even if he's playing out of position which is exactly what Massoud is doing as a 4 already...playing out of position...

Thought experiment - the final defensive lineup to this game was Epps-Rowan-Heath-Massoud-Cook If they were available, would any of the 2024 recruits have been sitting for the last play of the game? Maybe 2? Cook simply for his rebounding/size... Maybe Brumbaugh just because of his height and IQ as a guard but I am sure everyone will point out that he was beaten on the last play. Cook - Sorber - McKenna - Mulready - Brumbaugh...would have made me feel a hell of a lot better on a last minute defensive possession because I would assume someone else would have been covering Henley... Shoot Bristol for Brumbaugh...my bad ...and to the post right before mine is Williams that good defensively...honest question I wasn't aware...

I have been following Georgetown since 1982, I was from born outside Syracuse, but was living in Ohio at that time. The first time I saw Georgetown, I was turning the channel and stopped at the Georgetown game, at that moment Patrick Ewing stole the ball, went almost the length of the floor and missed this huge dunk, the rest was history. My family moved back to Syracuse 1985 and the rivalry began in my family, me against a town lol. I love sports but Georgetown is my favorite team. I started following Hoya talk about 10 years ago I think, I hope to add to some nice discussions. If you have come for nice discussions you have probably come to the wrong place...however in all seriousness welcome aboard!

This is a BEYOND ludicrous tweet. But I respect the amount of water this man is willing to carry for Cooley. Is Goodman serious? Well don't worry every poster is letting him hear it and how ridiculous that comment was...

Gisher did us a huge favor blocking that Epps disaster shot then was so pumped up he bailed us out on the foul. That should be game. That should be game? Have you watched this team over the last 3 seasons?

I’m not sure who you want him to play with Styles and Bristol with 4 fouls. I rather risk seeing them get minutes and foul out of that's what happens...then they can play Massoud....what's the difference?

I have absolutely no idea at this point what Massoud has done all season to earn crunch time minutes... it's criminal by Cooley at this point he sees the floor more than or even equal to Fielder... It's because Styles and Bristol both have 4 fouls I rather see Cook and Fielder even if that doesn't necessarily work well because nothing works well with Massoud...

Massoud 1-5 Cook 1-7 Heath 0-5 We went on the run when all 3 were out ironically. This is where I do have a little beef w/Cooley...it's been pretty obvious for the last say 30 days Brumbaugh and Fielder needed more minutes...

I hate to harp on players but Massoud is not nearly a Big East quality player. Cook’s limitations are really on display with a guy like Soriano out there. At least Cook gives you everything you got... Massoud literally just watched ledlums 3 and then realized oh shoot should I box out...too late...my 8th graders know you don't just watch...

Here is my problem w/the job Cooley has done so far...and to be clear this is coming from someone that liked the hire and was giving a free pass this season...
What is this team presently doing better compared to November/December? Tell me an area of improvement...
I can't name one thing...

Maybe a better thread to put this in...
I don't think in any universe Amir Abdur-Rahim was going to be considered for the job although I think some posters (me included) really liked what he could bring to the table...but also understanding it's totally unrealistic that he was ever going from Kennesaw St to Gtown...
...but giving credit where credit is due...
First 4 seasons at Kennesaw
1-28 5-19 13-18 26-9 (Reg Season Champ, Conf Champ, NCAA's)
First Season at South Florida
19-5 (they were 14-18 last year)
Their NET is poor (92) so probably NIT versus NCAA this year but dude can build programs and create success...
