"He's no longer the goofy 7-2 kid he was as a freshman," current Georgetown coach John Thompson III said of Hibbert. "He's grown up. He's come a long way, and his future is still ahead of him. He's a willing student who is going to improve. He's a lot more confident and his teammates are a lot more confident in him."
"I feel like I have no choice but to assert myself," Hibbert said. "This is February. This has always been Georgetown's month. To get where we want to be, I have to make sure I establish myself in the post from beginning to the end."
Last year, Georgetown reached the Sweet 16 and almost knocked off eventual national champion Florida in the regional semifinals. This team, though not as experienced, could be equally as dangerous in March now that Hibbert and Green, who play off one another beautifully, no longer have to constantly help out on 'D' or teach their younger teammates how to get them the ball.
That was evident in the way guards Jon Wallace and Jessie Sapp, the latter from Bishop Loughlin, neutralized Dominic James, Marquette's most explosive guard, by constantly switching off him and forcing him into Hibbert's giant shot-blocking shadow. James, generally considered the Big East's best guard at the start of the season, shot a dreadful 2-for-17 and was 0-for-6 from beyond the arc, scoring just six points overall.
All of this had to make JT III's father happy. John Thompson, who showed up at his son's press conference, was all smiles, watching his program's legacy live on.

Saturday, Thompson played reporter yet again.
“What month is it, Roy? What month is it?” Thompson asked Hibbert.
“It’s our month, coach.”
“Whose month?”
“Georgetown’s.”
