this is my first time seeing marquette this year and i have the same impression of james/mcneal as i always do. they're athletic and strong but are fundamentally unsound. james is always drifting on his jumper which causes him to be an erratic shooter. mcneal is a walking turnover. both of them overdrive and get themselves into trouble under the basket. their strength is in the open court. keep them in a 1/2 court set and they struggle.
great win by the boys and a win on monday really cements this team as a top 2 seed in the be tourney.

Marquette's beat writer (who by the way didn't include us at all in his AP poll ballot this past week) compiled a running blog during and after the game: www.jsonline.com/blog/?id=314

How about some love for DeJuan "The Dagger" Summers?
Jeff and Roy were dominant, but there were several spots where MU looked like they were about to make a big run and DeJuan buried daggers from behind the arc to quell the 'quette.
I love the way this team is playing now. So smart, so together. Keep it going! Beat the 'eers!

I know he wants to be called Jeezy, but he needs something a little more hard core.

Awesome quote from Roy in the post-game interview:
"Last night I seriously couldn't sleep. I stayed up and watched some old Georgetown games," said Hibbert, whose viewing including the 1985 classic in which coach John Thompson wore a striped sweater to match St. John's coach Lou Carnesecca's lucky sweater. "I look back at those games and I'm like, 'Wow, I get the chance to put on this jersey and represent Georgetown.' I was anxious for this game."
Not everyone in college basketball realize that it's a privilege to play for their school. Roy Hibbert does.

www.collegesports.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/gu/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/marquettequotesLord Crean: On MU sticking close to Georgetown for much of the game despite illness and foul trouble: "We were out of sync from the beginning. And even though we held in there really well and made comebacks throughout the second half, it was hard. We were playing without Wes and without Jerel, basically, in the first half." Guaranteed this was a question from an MU homer reporter. I'll be interested to see the extent to which they try and complain about McNeal being in foul trouble and Matthews' mysterious illness. I'm disappointed that it doesn't look like Lord Crean gave us more credit. When he beats a team, all he does is talk about how good they are.

Lord Crean should tell his team not to play defense with their hands. They're 12th in the league in defensive FT rate despite rarely having to foul at the end of games. Gamble for steals and you get fouls called. Can't have it both ways.

Another great win!! Can't say enough about Jeff and Roy......they are making this team so much fun to watch- both by their own play and by the way they are opening things up for Wallace, Sapp and Summers to nail open 3's. I really love the way Sapp and Summers have stepped things up on their outside shooting. Wallace played another VERY solid game- although he didn't shoot that well, 10/6/6 with 1 TO is a great line. Summers, as mentioned by many others, continues to step up at big times and make shots.
Marquette is clearly a very good team, but they just didn't have the guys inside to stop us. That, combined with how incredibly out of control James plays, made it very tough for them to have a chance to win this game. I was impressed with how Barro played, but he wasn't going to be able to do it all on his own in the paint.
One thing that worried me in this game was our defense when Roy came out of the game......everytime he sat, Marquette made a run. I know Macklin is going to be great, but he really needs to get in the weight room this summer. He seems to get pushed around and moved out of defensive position pretty easily. I worry about future games where we play a team on the level of Marquette or better where Roy gets in foul trouble. We also seemed to have trouble rebounding when he was out of the game. I'm not trying to take anything away from a great game and win, but this was something that stuck out to me as I watched the game. Otherwise, I am thrilled with how this team is playing right now. As long as we can avoid any game-long letdowns, I think our offense should continue to give teams a lot of trouble and our defense will keep us in games where the offense has some rough stretches.
Congrats to WVU on beating UCLA.....now we are both coming off big wins and short rest, which should even things up. This will not be an easy game at all. Beilein is a great coach and will have those guys ready for us.....that being said, we WILL beat them!!! May all Hoyas involved in the celebration tonight have a great time!!! It is great that this 100th anniversary can be celebrated on a day with such a big win.

YES!!!!!
Great win by the Hoyas! What a fun game to watch!
Great crowd, plenty of Hoya Saxas, We Are Georgetowns, and ROY ROY ROYS! audible on the telecast.
My favorite was when Roy just swallowed up the ball on the attempted in bounds off the back trick.
I think Jeff really likes to have Roy be the man on offense and then Jeff can just pick and choose when to score.

I think his game has had something to do with Jeff's resurgence. What about "Silk"? He's quite smooth and confident on his jumper, and with all the Reggie Williams comparisons lately, it might make sense to pass his pretty good (and not overused) nickname on to DaJuan.

Pretty impressive win by the Hoyas who I did not think really had their A+ game. Nice halftime ceremony - not sure why people are making a big deal about Big John not being there since it was honoring the top 25 players... at any rate, he was at the players/managers/coaches reception last night and I expect he will be at the gala later tonight. see end of AP story for a quote on the subject: sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/recap;_ylt=Amg_iu6CuXHaK9vwjazHx0_evbYF?gid=200702100229&prov=apPlayers need to keep focus and beat WVU Monday night.

That's a quote from the AP writeup. FACT: The honor bestowed on Patrick Ewing had nothing to do with his popularity. This writer is stupid.

Just a quick "congrats" from an ... "outsider." You gave a very fine showing today ... at least from what I saw. I am sure that I will have many "doubters," but in all honesty I was looking forward to the big game, especially since I had to work from 11 til 4 today. I figured that would be a great way to kill/enjoy 2 hours or more. As it worked out, I didn't get busy until right about tip off. I saw very little of the first half. I think it was 23-19 when I first got to take a glance at the game. The next thing I knew it was half-time and you were up a bucket -- I think it was 28-26 -- and if I remember correctly, Roy had ten and five at the break. In any case, I got to enjoy almost all of the second half. Needless to say, I once again brought you good luck. An 18 point win over a team ranked in the top 15 is to be enjoyed. On a related note, I think that the schedule works in your favor if I saw it correctly. Is that right .... WVU in a little over 48 hours after their emotional "marquee" game against the Bruins? I like your chances a lot. By the way, I was going to bet on you guys "plus" the 3 points someone mentioned earlier in the week. Not even close ... you were listed as 8 point favorites in today's paper .... it was 7 1/2 when I called. By the time I was getting a "readback" on my plays, it was 8 again. I cancelled the play. My loss. Still, I enjoyed the win nonetheless. Congrats again, and I look for you to replace the "Warriors" (and I use the term loosely) in the top 15 come Monday.
