Then it was occuring I realized that we can blow strong teams out when we consistently run our offense and play strong d. Sweet. So glad to see Smitty on TV in the half-time clip they showed. Nice. I would think this, along with the past month, should move us up to the top 15 - maybe 14 or 15, and we should probably be more like 12 or 13, though I know things don't change so quick in those things.

Who cares about the rankings? We are one of the best teams in the country right now, and - as has been my mantra for a few weeks now - we are getting better every game!
GREAT day for Hoya hoops. Thought the halftime tribute could have been better organized and run more smoothly - they didn't bother announcing any of the old Hoyas who were on the court but not part of the All Century Team and where was Big John?. But hard to complain after a great win in front of a full house!
Plus, the WVU win is great for the conference, and will make our win over them on Monday a much bigger deal.
HOYA SAXA.

dienertowade still doesn't know the result of the game (he's on call). i'm sure we'll see him eat a lot of crow later. i am so happy. going to spend the rest of the day bouncing all over town in my Hoyas sweatshirt. I KNEW we would win this by double digits. We are SO SO good now that we've cut back on the turnovers and learned that getting it to Hibbs is the key. They missed a lot of easy shots in the first half and you felt like they should have taken a bigger lead into the locker room, but that came in the second half. gone is that dread that we're going to suddenly go into an eight minute offensive funk. we led for every second of this game except at 2-0 and then for one trip down the court at 26-25 before Hibbs' emphatic dunk. we got a big bucket whenever we needed it, and from different people: Summers, Sapp, Green, Wallace, Hibbs, even Rivers. Marquette fans will complain about DJ's performance, bitch about the refs (they always do, and there's already a thread at marquettehoops.com suggesting the whole game was based on Hibbert setting moving screens), and complain about McNeal having foul trouble. But the truth is that we dictated the pace and they couldn't handle it. Marquette was and always is horrible when they have to play in the half court. If Lord Crean calls a timeout and has a chance to design a half-court play, its virtually guaranteed they'll turn it over or come up with a shot clock violation (it happened once today at least). Their efforts to take it to the hoop so quickly after our baskets played right into our hands, because they'd have to defend for 25 seconds, have the ball for 10 seconds, then be right back on D again. They were just worn out by the end of the game, which is when we had our huge run. Give them credit: they win a lot of games on heart and hustle alone, and they played their tails off today. Barro was awesome--he doesn't make any mistakes. I have bad-mouthed him before and I never will again. Heyward was tough, McNeal kept them in it for a while during the second half. DJ didn't play well, but he hasn't for two games and they've still been winning lately. For most of the game, they just wouldn't quit, and they kept themselves in it by dominating on the offensive glass at times. We win this by 30 if we rebound better (I'm not saying we should have won by 30, b/c MU has been rebounding very well lately and deserved all of those buckets). I'm not scared of any team in the country. But there can't be a letdown on Monday night. That won't be easy, and teams will now be gunning for us again, looking to make their NCAA resume. The hype will now be back, but so will the targets on our backs.

I agree that they shouldn't scare us....but can they beat us? I would say all of these teams definately have the players and ability to beat us...even if we play a solid game (example Pitt). The thing that I am seeing in the Hoyas is a team and players that are playing with confidence. This makes us tough to beat in any given situation. Can we be beat? sure Will we get beat? at some point Will we get beat this year? a toss up Will I cheer my a$$ off even it's just yelling at the tv so we don't get beat? Hell Yeah Go Hoyas...Roll WV

We needed that win badly, and we got it!
Marquette was playing some good basketball coming into this game, but today our best players stepped it up. Jeff and Roy needed to dominate this game, and they did so right from the start.
On the defensive end we did a good job of shutting down their guards, which turned the game into a Battle of the Big Men. Barro should be comended for his valiant effort, but when Jeff and Roy are on there aren't many (if any) teams in the country that can win a game-long Battle of the Big Men against us.
Earlier in the year this team couldn't handle it when things started going bad. When opponents stepped it up in the second half, we wilted badly. Fortunately JTIII seems to have fixed that. In the last 3 games things have gone pear shaped at one point or another. At St. Johns it was the 10 point deficit. Louisville kept coming back on us. Marquette got it within 1 with 7 minutes to go. But the "new Hoyas" haven't wilted - instead they've struck back. I think that change has been the key to this team's improvement.

So since Roy was 7 for 12, does this put him up on national leaders for Field Goal percentage?

WV just beat UCLA, so we can't take them for granted. That being said, I like our chances against them. We should be fresher than they will be because our game got over sooner.

I think you have to add UNC to that list. I know they lost to NC State but thier depth, talent and size are good enough to beat anyone in the country, including us, but I love our team. First things first, BEAT WVU!!!

They're a little delusional over at marquette, here's a comment from their message board: " I have come out of this game thinking that we are probably the 2nd best team in this conference as we would beat Georgetown at least 6 times out of 10 on a neutral court."

Their losses (at Virginia Tech and at NC State) are worse than ours (Villanova and at Pitt), in my opinion.

I was expecting a much better outside game from Marquette, but the Hoya's took that away from them. I was amazed at how out of control James was all game, which got worse as the game wore on. He played the role of a ballhog and not dishing to wide-open players behind the arc, but would take off balance 3 point attempt or drive on Roy as if he had amnesia from the poor idea that was every other time. I have not seen other Marquette games, but they were completely out of their game. Playing WV will be different as both Roy and Jeff hand long minutes today and WV can match inside and outside to a much better degree than Marquette could. They're a little delusional over at marquette, here's a comment from their message board: " I have come out of this game thinking that we are probably the 2nd best team in this conference as we would beat Georgetown at least 6 times out of 10 on a neutral court."
