An embarrassing second half - looked like the ghost of the Esh years returned, we had no clue what we were doing. And great clutch foul shooting, too. We will never make it through the weekend next week.

We will never make it through the weekend next week. The worst thing is that we are so obviously superior to Syracuse when we are on our game. Its not really close. This was an awful loss. Just crushing, I can't stand it it hurts so badly.

Frazier do you plan on standing by this statement? I don't know why your so shocked you already predicted "one and done" for this team for the BE tourney.

Never is a very strong word. This was a bad game, but 'cuse is the hottest team in the country right now, and we owned them in the first half. I still feel good about the other tournament.

Hibbert and Green missed huge free throws and they are sophomores. Can't lay this on the seniors, it was a team disaster. I'm sorry, TEAM DISASTER. The point must be emphasized. Now that I've calmed down a bit, I have reminded myself that these are in fact kids and kids do silly stuff like this. It happens. Let's just hope everyone learns from it in time for the real tournament.

The key is the coaches learn from it.
I'm not angry; but coaches are a stubborn bunch. Be able to learn from your mistakes is a key attribute in coaches. This is not the first time we've delaying ourselves out of a game, and Thompson, Jr. did it all the time as well.

I never said I was shocked, just that it was embarrassing. There was no reason to lose this game. But I guess it's okay, we made it this far, tight wins over 2 unranked teams, hoorah!

Edge, I'm frustrated and annoyed.
I guess what I mean is I'm trying not to be angry at the players or coaches. I know they are trying and the players looked dead on their feet in the second half. I know III is an exceptional coach and while I also know I'm right on this one, he's ten zillion kajillion times the coach I'd be.
So yeah, they really don't deserve anger. But I'm not happy at that score.

im not angry at the players just someof the stupid things we did and it annoys me that we could get this far and we cant make free throws... THERE CALLED FREE THROWS there giving it to us... why arent our players taking use of that... also po'd at the fact that the refs werent giving some of the calls JG fouled mac at the end no call and first half roy was getting bulldozed inside and JG's charge not called just some at the top of the head along with the devendorf walk not called

We were not outcoached!! Boeheim's strategy was "give it Gerry and see what happens" and "play the zone better". Granted our coaching strategy was no better, but it was no worse. Their players beat our players and coaches on both sides canceled each other out.

then why werent we saying... 'give it to jeff and will see what he can do...' jeff could dominate a game more than gerry... jeff is inside more can get fouls easily and him and roy were working the best ive ever seen them 2gether 2nite

The title of this thread mirrors the first words out of my mouth after the buzzer.
I have no delusions of making any major noise the rest of the month. I don't think we can win the national championship - there are just too many good teams out there, and we won't be able to put together six straight top-notch performances in my mind.
That said, I saw the Big East Tournament, especially after Connecticut lost, as a real chance to do something special. As a senior, I've seen some rough times for Georgetown basketball. I wanted to go out with a 2006 BIG EAST Champions T-shirt on under my dress shirt at commencement. We had a real shot at it, too. But instead it was the same old same old.
We still could have won this game, even after they went ahead. Coach Thompson burned through his timeouts like they were going out of style in the second half. We had one left. Why did we save it if we weren't going to use it? I totally understand the idea of letting the play flow and letting the players make plays. But when you've led for the entire game, and then watched the lead steadily slip away, culminating in a transition layup with less than ten seconds left...CALL THE EFFING TIMEOUT. The players have just (figuratively) been hit over the head with a steel chair. They're shellshocked. We couldn't believe what happened, and neither could they. Call the timeout, get them focused on getting a shot - not even a good shot, just ANY shot would have been nice, thank you - and give yourself a chance to re-steal the game. I think our coaches probably couldn't believe we blew it either.
And fellas...there is no excuse for a scholarship player in Division I basketball to miss free throws. They are FREE. They come from the same spot every time. I understand that fatigue plays a role (the "third game in as many days" rule manifested itself right in our faces tonight) in missing these FREE POINTS, but come on...next week, MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS.
Again, from this point on, every game could be my last. So to the team and the coaching staff, I say thanks for everything...and for nothing.

As for McNamara, for the third straight game he played like a senior playing for his life. I hate that bastard.

jeff was 3-11 from the field and missed his 3 of his last 4 free throws and only had 2 assists. he had a poor game. ashanti was trying to do the right thing and he failed. ashanti and owens played poor defense to give mcnamara the open three at the end. the players failed in the last minute. hopefully they'll do better in the NCAAs and we get better players in future years
