The Red Storm have under-performed since their victory over Pitt. Still that W proves that they can knock off anyone at anytime. We need to be careful not to look forward to the games against Nova and WVU next week. That being said there should be a LARGE student turn out for this game due to the time - hopefully the Young Alumn section can be as loud as Sunday as well. Let's sweep the storm out of MCI on Thursday!

A differenet take on the last 30 seconds yesterday:
While I am disturbed about the way we ended the Pitt game, I think it will be beneficial for the St. John's game. Just follow me for a second.
If we win by 10, the players are happy-go lucky, practice is a little bit easier and we begin to look ahead to revenge against another top 10 team in WVU. Now however, you can bet JT3 will be in their ears at practice, the players will be dissapointed about how they finished the game, and instead of looking past St. John's we look toward St. Johns in correcting these errors.
No letdown here. Hoyas beat the Johnnies by 15+!

Oh, you are gonna get it! How dare you beat Dan McQ to the punch with this thread! Your future posts will now undergo Homeland Security-level inspection for any clutter or language violations!!! No, this happened last week as well, Frazier. Dan will simply peg the thread, change the title, and call it his own. The cowardly bum...

St. John's is somewhat reminiscent of some of the not so good Georgetown teams of the 90s. They are a good defensive team (17th in the country according to Pomeroy) though they don't force a huge amount of turnovers.
Their offense is close to awful, except that they are a great offensive rebounding team (7th in the country). Only Anthony Mason and Phil Missere have an offensive efficiency above 100, thanks to poor shooting and just horrendous turnover problems.
Unfortunately for us, we don't force a lot of TOs, since our D is more of a solid, not gambling type. Fortunately for us, St. John's is 1-6 on the road, with the one win over South Florida.

I have fear before this play, since it found between two very durable competitors. We may not look to the beyond. They were a difficult competitor for the university of Connecticut. I trust that John Thompson of the Third keeps our crew arranged the gift and it of that, large play does not let begin to think against the university from west Virginia

I think there's something in there about not looking ahead. Im pretty sure we can all agree with that. Do you happen to have any lottery numbers going through your head?

This line will be 10+.
If we're a 12-point favorite versus Providence, we're definitely the same versus St. Johns.

If the team lets success go to its head like some guys on this board, St John's will murda murda mu-murda us. We're getting WAY ahead of ourselves taking about seeding and whatnot. We play a St John's team that always gives us trouble on Thursday. Let's start there.

If by "go to their head" you mean get complacent, I hope not.
If you mean they should be confident in their preparation and know that sharp execution gives them a chance to beat anyone they face, then I hope they share the sentiments of the fans.

I'm really not that worried about this game. We handled them pretty easily on their home court where they've played their best. I look forward to them being the 7th win in our winning streak. as they were in our 7 game winning streak we put together earlier this season. *an anti jinx has been placed on this post*

Thursday night. 9pm start. Nationally televised game. Hopefully we get a nice turnout to support the team. I don't believe St. John's is going to expect an atmosphere at MCI that we've been getting in recent games. And SJU has won only one road game in the BE all year (USF). This is a game we should have no problems taking (and that's not overlooking them, it's just confidence).

Ever the eternal pessimist, I agree with those who are afraid the recent weeks of success will cause us to overlook teams like the Johnnies. We should approach each game as if we weren't ranked and continue to prove doubters. It took a 6 game winning streak (albiet solid/superb wins at that) for us to go from zero votes to 15/16 in the country, but all it takes are one or two losses to anyone to introduce the feared "overrated" label into everyone's mind. Let's keep proving doubters wrong and bringing back the fear.
