The NCAA is really going to regret flinching to political pressure from North Carolina in the Tez Walker case. Every state school is going to use it as their playbook for a waiver. Primo Spears: Florida State Brandon Murray: LSU Brandon Murray is at Ole Miss, and both states have multiple state schools with rival fanbases, no one is wading into those rivalries to help out.

Good catch - had LSU on the brain for a different reason (new Speaker) and Murray obviously transferred FROM there to Georgetown when he used his first transfer. Do no other schools in Mississippi or Florida have players trying to get the second time transfer waiver?

The Jalen Cook example gave me an idea. NCAA should adopt the professional soccer model of loaning young players out to get them time. It's a win win for the schools and the player. All the time and resources you put into landing the player won't be lost because they want playing time. If the player doesn't go back to the original school they signed with they have to sit out. If not they can play right away.
I know this will never happen.
As for the actual transfer rules I think they should be pretty simple. There is no more grad transfer. You get one free transfer no matter what. Only way you get two is if your previous two coaches were fired or left the year you decided to transfer. If the coaches can leave than the player should to.

The one thing that is often lost in these discussions is that none of these rules PREVENT a player from playing college basketball four seasons (or five, if you had the COVID year). The rules are clear. You can transfer once without sitting if you enter the portal at the stated times. If you want to transfer twice, you can still do it, you just need to sit out a year--something legions of transfers did in the last few decades.
Absent extenuating circumstances, there is nothing unjust about having to sit out instead of getting waiver to transfer twice. At some point, limits need to be placed on transfers, and I am glad the NCAA is giving this rule some teeth it did not have last year when they were throwing waivers around like candy on Halloween. The real issue here is that a lot of guys transferred a second time just assuming they'd get waivers (and in some cases, coaches probably told them they were likely to get them) despite the rule. And lo and behold, they did not get them--which is exactly what the rules say.
If the NCAA makes it clear that second-time transfer waivers will be limited, kids will be less likely to transfer. Which, in my mind, is not a bad thing. Obviously, everybody has their own unique circumstances, but a system where kids can constantly transfer year-after-year without any consequence is a major negative for college basketball in the aggregate.

Questions :
- where is Ed Cooley right now and who is he recruiting? Are they for 2024 or now because now there's a chance that literally anyone could suit up for us in January - if Primo Spears plays two or three times before Dec 27, and then the NCAA wins this case and his waiver stays denied, he burns a year of eligibility based on those 2-3 games?

So your theory is that, as of last night, Ed Cooley knew what the West Virginia judge was going to rule and had his plane ready the next morning to pounce on 2-time transfers?

Ed Cooley announced in the press conference that he was on an early flight today recruiting future Hoyas. We have open scholarships, and I'm not sure if it's for January 2024, Fall 2024 or 2025. At Georgetown, does Ed Cooley have access to lawyers that could tell you how the Northern District of WV is going to rule? Yes.

Hard to believe we're barely scraping KenPom #200 with such incredible resources!

Idiot Macafee calls a rule that's been in place less than 2 years archaic, smh..
The rules committee will institute a no-waiver policy very soon which will be a good thing overall.
Sadly, AG's are getting involved as if this is a truly an emergency..
