I don't understand at all why you're referring to Ronny as a boogeyman To put it mildly, he was an ineffective member of a staff that won 2 of 40 BE games, he should be let go like every other member of Ewing's staff. I didn't make Ronnie the bogeyman. Aidan and a vocal section of Hoyatalk did, blaming him for all sorts of ills within the program, even though it has never been clear what exactly his role, authority or influence actually was. (From Aidan's piece--"In nearly every interview with current and former members of the program, the consensus reply to the question “What exactly does Ronny do for the program?” was either a shrug or an “I don’t know”. hilltophoops.substack.com/p/ronny-thompson-georgetown-basketball-influence ) On the other hand, you are absolutely correct that whatever he did or did not do in the program, his efforts did not result avoidance of the recent slow motion car crash, and as such his removal (along with the rest of the pre-Cooley staff) would appear more than warranted. And the removal of Ronny's name from the directory would seem to indicate that removal. Rejoice! When Reed or Cooley or JDG are willing to confirm he's no longer with the program or athletic department I'll rejoice because that would be a huge signal that leadership is finally ready to move forward

It's a good thing he's off the directory and doesn't have a formal role. Of course, Georgetown hiding his previous role for a while isn't confidence inspiring, but from what we have seen of Cooley so far, there's no indication he's willing to just let someone like Ronnie have influence. So, I am not concerned for now.

I will be thrilled next season if the following happens:
1. We see Ronny as a color commentator to a game such as Old Dominion vs. Louisiana Tech, likely on MASN 2. 2. Ronny is nowhere to be found at the Capital One Arena on Georgetown game days.
I know from past seasons that spotting #1 doesn't necessarily mean that Ronny is not playing a role at Georgetown, but it certainly makes it less likely that he can be destructive to the program.

If true and it sticks, a new day has actually dawned on GU hoops.

I’m surprised how little chatter is on here regarding this news. This is necessary and important.

I’m surprised how little chatter is on here regarding this news. This is necessary and important. It’s Post-Thompson Stress Disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying decade of basketball program malpractice— either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, uncontrollable thoughts about basketball-related events, on and off the court, and not believing reports until first-hand confirmation. This too shall pass...

I don't think there is much more to say though other than what has already been said. Ronny's presence was detrimental to the program and I am glad the new regime appears to have quickly realized that.

I’m surprised how little chatter is on here regarding this news. This is necessary and important. I think there would be more chatter if there was an actual announcement/someone at Georgetown went on record about the topic. The news could very well be true but, you know. What happens if Ronny is at the home opener walking around the event floor? Compare this to Villanova where they just created the position of GM and made an announcement.

I’m surprised how little chatter is on here regarding this news. This is necessary and important. Because as a couple others have said: Ronny is a Hoya. Not sure the amount of vitriol matches what he has "purportedly" done vs. the actual truth.

Lots of fan fiction out there as well as misplaced frustration.

Lots of fan fiction out there as well as misplaced frustration. Maybe. Seems kinda like an accumulation of “where there’s enough smoke, there’s fire”: - Arkansas / Darian Townes - Ball State fiasco - more than one rumor of running off Lori H - weird shadowy puppet master standing in tunnel during games vibe - not being listed as employee for several years - collecting TV checks while (allegedly) getting paid a full time rate by GU one or two you can maybe see folks casting aspersions but cumulatively…

Or maybe you don’t believe them and it’s just fiction.

The personal stories told by Kevin Braswell and Chris Wright on the Dawg talk podcast alone are enough to not want him around the program in any way.
