Stepinac? My father went there before GU. It is interesting that they have become a basketball powerhouse. Stepinac? The great Artie White who outplayed Pistol Pete in the NIT went to Stepinac. Wasn't that Mike Laska who guarded Maravich?

Wasn't that Mike Laska who guarded Maravich? True, but White had a double double and outscored Pete. Artie is still in the area. Member of Army Navy golf club. Had the pleasure of playing against him in a retired men’s golf match a few years back and when we compared golf ball markings on the first tee (mine was HOYA 78) we were off to the races 😀…. Confirmed the long rumored tale that he won a college national title in Canada under an assumed name during his hiatus from the Hilltop (had taken a pal to a try out and the coach had a better idea when he saw Artie play in some warm ups). Still looks like he could play…

I was at that game. Laska had a little help and Danny Hester was often left alone for layups. He outscored everyone with 30.

I learned that he was in my freshman government class (taught by Luis Aguilar-Leon) when he showed up for the final. I looked up at him and exclaimed "you're in this class?" and he just broke up laughing. He was a good guy, but, uh, not much of a student at the time.

He shared the tale of being “invited” by the school to take some time off after his junior year and considered it something of a miracle years later that that they let him back in to graduate (maybe following a stint in the service)

Interesting to me that Cooley hasn't brought any former Providence players with him yet. Bynum seems like an obvious 1-year transition PG, but I take it Cooley has his sights set a little higher which is great.

I think he's going to end up at Kansas State. The only guys that I think we would really want (Carter/Hopkins) already transferred so it's unlikely they would be immediately eligible.

Guard and wing positions? I see room for at least two more centers.

Not a good fit plus too risky. How is it risky for Georgetown or Cooley? Worst case scenario Wahab sits and doesn’t play that much. Either way he’s done after this year. I really think some don’t appreciate that even in a horrible situation, with a terrible coach and no structure, Wahab was still very efficient. He isn’t a perfect player but he has some skill. I think much of the disappointment is his failure to improve, but and some of that falls on Wahab surely, but it also falls on Ewing and the staff. For me, the bigger question I cannot answer is does the skill Wahab does have in any way fit with how Cooley wants to play? That I don’t know. Obviously I also have no idea about the “fit” when it comes to other factors like personality.

Obviously I also have no idea about the “fit” when it comes to other factors like personality. Wahab flaked out when he left right after the BET championship. Really hurt Ewings momentum which eventually led to being fired. Was really disruptive to the program and team. When he came back he was a shell of his former self. Could no longer automatically score down low suddenly couldn’t block shots/rim project or rebound like he did before Maryland. Then didn’t seem to take being benched for Ezeweiro well. I just think the risk of disruption/distraction/negativity is too great compared to the reward for Cooley. He’s a poor fit for Cooley because Cooley likes space eaters at center who are tough, strong and physical.
