And for context, if I'm not mistaken, Elvado is a Class of 1985 guy himself. He's not some young kid who doesn't remember the glory days of Ewing the player. Guilty and old as charged.

Pat help build the men’s basketball program as a national brand. He can come back on campus regardless if you like it or not. Big John had the vision and got the number one recruit in Patrick Ewing the rest is history. Pat is always welcome back to Georgetown University. And Esh was going to coach for 30 years… Pat probably still has a rapidly shrinking reservoir of good will with the 55 and up crowd. After that, not so much. And as for Big John and the Thompson family, enough already. Ewing was the reason I became a Georgetown fan....I was just a kid. My feelings towards him have definitely changed and that almost makes me more sad than how awful the program is right now. Both things are something I never thought I would ever see happen. Patrick Ewing has done a lot of damage by "refusing to quit"....and Admin has done a lot of damage by not having the guts to make a change when the whole world knew it needed to happen. Hopefully we can all see it turn around in the not too distant future. Hoya fans deserve a good stretch of years after all we've been through trying to stay loyal to this team.

I have come to see Ewing as two different people.
-The young physical marvel who I saw walk into the New South cafeteria on his recruiting trip wearing a full length black trench coat. the entire cafeteria got quiet as everyone stared at him in hopeful awe. This is the guy who made my undergrad years such a joy as he rampaged across the college hoops landscape for 4 years, and who made me a die hard Hoya for life
-The old arrogant, confused guy fumbling his way through his Hoya coaching career, especially the final two absurdly awful seasons
It is too dissonant for my old brain to look at both of them as the same person. I know it is the same guy, but I have such a need to hold onto the great memories of my youth that I have to force myself to at least try to look at them as two different people

You don’t hire former star players, you put yourself in a very unenviable position.

You don’t hire former star players, you put yourself in a very unenviable position. "Remember Patrick Ewing?" might be the words that prevent any star players from being hired by their former teams for years to come. Also, that Rudy Giuliani comparison above really made me laugh.

Willie Mays as a Met. (Interesting fact: Willie is currently, at 90, the oldest living Baseball Hall of Famer...) Having just finished “24”, there is one great difference. Willie as a Met subjugated his ego to the needs of the ‘72 and ‘73 Mets. When the Mets were down 5-2 with 2 outs in the ninth inning of game 7 of the ‘73 Series and Yogi (never to be confused with a master tactician) let Wayne Garrett hit against Darold Knowles, Willie did not insist upon pinch hitting. As he explained in the book, “it was the manager’s call”.

I was hoping for large stretches today that this thread could be retired. Instead, Georgetown found a way to lose a winnable game. The players wanted it, but they tried to do too much. This game reminds me of the Butler game last season, probably our best chance to win. Georgetown had chances, but it didn’t work out. On to the next.

Yup....I had a brief flash of what it used to feel like to think we were going to win. It lasted only a minute or two and then I saw things starting to trend Nova's way. This was a big opportunity to stop the streak....but we basically dribbled it away.

Winless in conference will be termed, “you pulled a Patrick Ewing” So are we shooting for the Double Ewing, once thought to be only an unobtainable myth?

Has any major conference team pulled a double Ewing in the past 40 years? Since 2002, there have only been seven Ewings in major conf basketball and no doubles. It’s really hard to go winless.

Has any major conference team pulled a double Ewing in the past 40 years? Not that I’ve been able to find, though records hard to track down. Record for consecutive high major in-conference losses that I’ve been able to locate manually seems to be Northwestern across three seasons encompassing one 0-18 winless in the middle in 90-92. Our chance for a 30th could be hosting DePaul on January 24…

We have DePaul at home before we get to 32 but it’s definitely possible.

Nova and Seton Hall appear to be the two worst teams besides us, based on the eye test.
