Things are going to get really spicy around here if we win easily lmao Or if we lose, period. Of course, someone will excuse the loss. No doubt. But it goes both ways. I think any of us can write double 97s posts, win or lose this game. hm

Sports Information releases can be cryptic, but the phrase "starting with the Butler game" suggests this might be more than a one game issue. As someone who feels like several people on HT are off-the-charts whiny about the program not “sharing enough”, I gotta say, I’m with ya DFW, that’s pretty unusual verbiage for a program that tends to be minimalist with its word choice. Might just mean that Patrick had a + test today, so assuming a 5-day quarantine, that would mean missing Butler + St Johns, but there are better ways to phrase it. Editing: I hope Patrick’s ok.

Hope Coach is OK. He’s already had COVID and has to be vaccinated/boosted, so he should be fine. Not sure why he’s even testing at this point (ducks for cover)…

Hopefully it doesn't become anything serious.
Alot of older people have been dying left and right lately. Sidney Poitier, Peter Bogdanovich, Ronnie Spector, Betty White, Bob Sagat.

I thought it was reported that Carey had a non-covid illness. Yes, it was for Carey. To be clear, I think: (a) It is clearly fair for media to ask Ewing about Mutombo. AND (b) I think it is fair for Ewing to refuse to answer. As others have said, Ewing clearly cannot answer the question if the answer is disciplinary or something of that nature. But, it's totally fair for the media and fans to question it. Coaching decisions like that aren't all that common, though under Ewing they seem more frequent than under other coaches. Clearly more frequent under PE.

It will be very depressing if Butler blows us out at home. I don't think they will, but I also don't think it is impossible. Certainly possible.

While I am sure Orr will coach and approach the game in his own way (and he obviously has a ton of experience), there is really only so much you can do in a day or two. It's not like Orr can convert the team to a zone defense juggernaut overnight, and my guess is that he will likely adhere to a Ewing game plan for the most part. If Orr coached the team for a longer period--let's say a month--then I think you'd be more likely to see Orr's imprint. But, not coaching one or two games. Still, guys sometimes respond differently depending on the guy at the top (whether good or bad). It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Not an Orr fan, but I think we’ll make better in-game adjustments tomorrow night than we typically do.

A Southern Canada Community College legend leading our Hoyas into battle? Never. Let Kirby run with it until Pat comes back.

I haven't spent as much time analyzing this matchup as I've been writing longer posts in other threads. A few thoughts though: - First, obviously wish Coach Ewing a speedy recovery and good health going forward
- I was admittedly skeptical of Butler in the preseason, and that has come to fruition. Are they the only team that was legitimately hurt by the extra year of eligibility? Bringing back players who weren't winning but are now blocking your younger players, why did anyone think they would have more success this year? If I'm a Butler fan, do I really want to see Aaron Thompson playing the same amount of time as Chuck Harris? Also more broadly, they seem to really miss Hodges, he was the guy who scared me last year
- Big picture, is Butler happy with the Jordan hire? He started the same year as Ewing, had some success with players he didn't recruit. His recruiting hasn't taken them to the next level and I'm not sure where you would find optimism for next season given where they are with everyone graduating. And the reason I'm bringing it up is that it kinda seemed like a slam dunk hire. Former player, worked his way through the ranks, young, had a year of head coaching experience under his belt. If this season continues down the path it's headed and we contemplate another direction, just a reminder that even the most logical hires don't work out. Is Jordan the equivalent of us going after Kim English? English is trending more success at Mason than Jordan had at Milwaukee. Now obviously get busy living or get busy dying so you don't sit pat just because you're scared you're going to miss. Just wanted to put that out there.
- Butler's 231st ranked offense vs. our 230th ranked defense. Stoppable force vs. moveable object, woof.
- It's even hard to guess what we're going to do because we don't know who's available. Is Carey back? Tim? Ryan? If Coach is in protocols would it be hard to believe that nobody else on the team is impacted?
- Echo others that I'm not expecting a radically different approach from Orr. Maybe you'll see different timeout usage or substitution patterns but not expecting the Xs and Os to look different.
- And if we play well honestly it's a get-right spot and will be unfair to credit Orr / dismiss Ewing. After Ewing's presser this really goes one of two ways, the guys agree with his assessment and come together, or they throw in the towel and say screw him if he's going to throw us under the bus. I'm betting on the former but will be on the lookout for the latter.
Can't watch it live tonight so DVR ready to go, good luck Hoyas

Ewing is 58 - is that now considered “old”? Yes. Ouch! I am looking forward to seeing what Orr can do and assume that while the team has a blueprint for the game, the substitutions and in-game strategy will be up to Orr. Maybe more use of the press, maybe a quicker hook for players who are going rogue or not playing on both ends. Maybe not. Either way it adds a little something to the game and some hope for me that we might see a few adjustments. Ewing is a seemingly proud and stubborn individual but he does trust Orr. Many recruits have commented how much they like Orr. It has become common around here for fans to denigrate the assistants and question their value to the program. They may be right, but at least for tonight we get to see one of them step out of the huge shadow of the head coach and show what he can do. I am actually looking forward now to a game I had been dreading after the Marquette disaster. Here's hoping for a full roster and some intelligent and disciplined play.

It's a difficult thing when you are a Stepping Stone School. Thad Matta, Linkeleter, Brad Stevens, Holtzman all skipped town and left for greener pastures. This would likely be our fate if we salt the earth on the Thompson/Ewing/Hoya family and start looking for outsiders. Any even moderate success and they are likely to skip town. I think with Butler they are in a precarious situation because once Barry Collier/Butler Way is gone it may all come crashing down.
