I think the initial report was late January at the earliest.

According to casualhoya:
“Per current BIG EAST policy, Georgetown has forfeited the game and a loss will be assigned in the conference standings. Providence will be assigned a win.
BIG EAST policy states that if a conference game cannot be played on its originally scheduled date due to an insufficient number of available players (including as a result of COVID), that team shall be deemed to have forfeited with a loss assigned to that team. A win will be assigned to its opponent. The win and loss will be applied to the league standings.”
So, excluding the injured, how many players were unavailable/sick?

According to casualhoya: So, excluding the injured, how many players were unavailable/sick? As discussed on the front page earlier this morning (free promo), the Big East requires seven healthy scholarship players. As of the TCU game, Georgetown had only eight, so as few as two positive tests could have caused a forfeit.

I believe the policy is seven scholarship players who are not in the Covid protocols in order to play. There is very little wiggle room with Tim, Jordan and Kobe injured. We're at nine scholarship players right now. You get one positive plus two kids who are impacted by contact tracing and the team is on ice.

Not sure about Ewing’s record but it goes down as a NC as far as NCAA tournament purposes.

At least everyone get refunds instead of eating the cost (as we were going to do thanks to high Covid rates in RI/omicron/no vax requirements and low mask compliance at the Dunk). I would be more upset about the forfeit policy if I thought it was going to matter by the end of the season. Do the coaches refund their paychecks if they don't play the games? I don't think players refund their scholarship dollars for missed classes or for lack of exposure for their NILs, either.

I doubt this will ever really matter, but does this count as a loss only for the Big East standings or is it a loss across the board? This ESPN article lists our record as 6-6. If we ever got on the NCAA bubble, would this be considered a loss or just thrown out? Does it go on Ewing's overall record? Whose record should it go against? Pete Gaudet's?

This could quickly get out of hand as the programs at St. Johns, Depaul and Georgetown recover, the virus could shutdown other teams. Who knows how many games are played and what revisions to the schedule may be.

If it includes injuries in the count, that is absolutely ridiculous. Has there ever been a prior time in Big East history where teams had to have a certain number of uninjured scholarship players in order to play the game?

Blessing in disguise just like last year as long as nobody is seriously ill.

On the note of last year’s covid break I hope there is a similar recalibration from the players as I still think it was the players deciding to dig deep and do themselves and hopefully they come out swinging

I sure hope that I am wrong , but I think all this discussion about forfeits and covid is moot because I suspect the season will be gone. Like I said- I hope I am wrong. This covid sure does suck.

Stupid idea forfeit games, just cancel the season. You may forfeit 4-7 games in a season just dumb.

This seems like a pretty safe bet with how things are progressing. I'd be fine with the University tapping out of the season in favor of the well-being of our Hoyas. Unless the guys, if asked, explicitly say that they don't want to shut it down, I'd entirely support pulling the rip cord on the season so our Hoyas can focus on school and staying safe.

You really believe our team of entirely vaccinated players is at any risk of serious illness?

And, that's not nothing.
