Here is my question: did we lose tonight because of Dante's decision making or his point guard play? I don’t think so - we lost because of a complete mismatch coaching-wise, IMO. Harris was fine tonight (in fact, he was awesome in the first half).

I think the comment is fair. How can it not be? Talking about the basketball budgets The comparison is fair. I just refuse to take the bait from trolls. At any rate, I was focusing specifically on the game tonight, not making a commentary on the program as a whole. There are any number of threads on here that devolved into a cesspool of program bashing. In the game threads I just prefer to stick to the game at hand.

St. Joe’s is terrible - Hoyas should win by double digits. Can't wait for that. In addition to getting beat tonight by 15, St. Joes has lost to Drexel and Monmouth already this season. They are really, really bad. We’ll win by double digits.

One of my hobbies is staying up until 2:00 am to watch student athletes ball out. Hope that's ok.

How there is any conversation about Dante besides how he kept us in this game is beyond me. Who should he have distributed it to besides Aminu, which he did? Nobody was doing anything.
Today was a two man show and not because of hogging the ball. I don’t remember very often, if at all, thinking that Dante should pass because player X was open. That’s probably credit to SDSU, but certainly not an issue with Dante.

Here is my question: did we lose tonight because of Dante's decision making or his point guard play? Neither. Carey's 0 for 7 was noticeable and the three centers were outmuscled all evening. If Harris makes that three point shot down four at the 8:34 mark, it's a different game, but no one else stepped up down the stretch.

Ewing really needs to start getting Beard, Bills, Ryan and Riley ready. The goal should be preparing for next year... I will take “things that were said all of last year about last years freshmen and that were never done” for $200.

In the off-season after Wahab’s departure, I thought Tre King was going to be an important addition, probably only second to Aminu. At this point it’s looking like he might have been even more important than Aminu, at least in the short term.
It’s almost impossible to have as little offensive production out of the forward and center spot as we do now; I believe last night we had 5 points from the six frontcourt players who saw time. Such a stark contrast from every other Ewing team where the frontcourt paced our scoring.
I’m not sure who is capable of stepping on the roster as is, but to me playing Wilson is pointless for both this year and beyond. I’d rather live with Mutumbo and Billingsley’s growing pains for an eventual pay-off down the road.

Not an enjoyable experience for me.My Aztecs beat my Hoyas and there was no satisfaction in watching this ugly Hoya loss or the Aztec win. As an Aztec fan I was happy with the defense, but then again the Hoyas right now have no real offensive flow--few assists, not much ball movement, no inside scoring threat and a heavy reliance on individual effort to get points. As for the Aztec offense, I knew ahead of time they could score inside against the Hoya bigs, but surprised it was not more from Mensah. Hoyas are not a good defense, Aztecs are not going to win too many games with lucky bounces and desperation shots going in from 3. Bradley had a good game but still has much to prove for me along with the rest of the team, starting with tonight against USC.
As for Hoyas, I see little to happy with other than the effort from both Harris and Aminu. I think the loss of Wahab hurts the Hoyas but the fall off is not nearly as great at the 5 as the loss of Pickett at the 4. Pickett's offense and defense and rebounding are greatly missed with this group. I think in both the Dartmouth loss and this game Ewing's substitutions have at times killed momentum and while his goal should be getting players ready for conference, I wish he would mix the bench players in with the starters more carefully based upon how they are playing and not have situations where both Harris and Aminu are out of the game at the same time for a long stretch. Not the first year I have wondered about substitutions. As for the post position, I keep thinking back to the recruitment of Wahab, Wilson and Tim in the same class and thinking it was excessive, but as of now it looks like the Hoyas have yet to find a post who can provide a real inside threat and will also pass the ball out to open shooters.
The Aztecs play good defense for a coach that knows how to teach defense. Last night he set the blueprint for other opponents of the Hoyas--play Carey and Rice tight on the perimeter, dare Harris and Aminu to beat you and don't worry about whomever the Hoyas play inside.

Well for what it's worth, Ighoefe managed to play almost an entire half of basketball (about 15 minutes in the second half) without picking up a single foul. That seemed miraculous.

Here is my question: did we lose tonight because of Dante's decision making or his point guard play? Neither, not enough talent or experience.. their big boys ate us alive, they owned the inside. Timmy must learn to catch the ball. Those dunk shots that got blocked time and time again looked like the shots they were shooting in the promotional video drills. It take much more than that! Tim and Malcolm must go stronger and jump higher than that. Show some power exertion!

Our three centers should work very hard on three things...defense, rebounding and SETTING GOOD SCREENS for our shooters, especially Carey and Rice who struggle to create their own shot against tight defense but who can shoot very well given time and space...this can be their primary offensive contribution...

We shouldn't have to depend on Dante and Aminu. Mutombo has to play to get experience. Hes a rather thin guy and will get stronger over time. He's young. But has a good attitude.
