The level of competition is slightly different, no?

Can you explain how Q's rim protection is better than the King's. Q averaged 1.6 blocks per game last season. The King averaged 2.0 block per game. Sure, rim protection is more than actual blocks, it's also altering shots, which he did a lot of. He also put up his numbers in the Big East playing against much more skilled competition on a nightly basis. Do you think King could block 2 shots a game in the Big East? I don't, but we'll see.

The level of competition is slightly different, no? Yes sir, and more than slightly.

Correction: King is only at 1.2 block per game. So good but not at an elite level like 2.0 would be.

My general preference is for King over Q. I would have been happy if Q had stayed because he was improving each year. King would have been a nice replacement for Bile then.

Also, King has a tenaciousness to his game. He has bounce and can stroke it.

Love the various schools of thought here that either have to completely downgrade any skills Q had and make believe it is a great thing he left, or denigrate Tre before he even plays a game for the Hoyas.
How about this:
Q left; he improved and had some skills that will definitely be missed and he appeared to be a hard worker. Don't know why he left. I am sure he had his reasons, and we will eventually see if it was a good decision for him, a bad decision for him, or did not significantly impact his potential as a pro. In any event, even if he is a great kid, it seems he had Ewing's full support and he decided instead to transfer to UMCP. So, dead to me now; I can't root for him, and will do my best to not even care any more.
As for Tre - Welcome! A great job by Ewing and staff filling a void. Glad you are joining the family and looking forward to your contributions next year!

While I won’t go as far to say I rather have King over Q ...My biggest problem with Q is that he was so darn robotic on offense that the offense came to a standstill every time the ball was in his hands. I am not sure what was more painful to watch...Q forcing a right hook when if he spins the other way he has a wide open lay up or trying to pass out of a double team. In the end, King looks like he has a fluidity to his game that should blend much better with the other guys.

Tre and Q are two different players. This isn't really a trade off.
We still have Tim (who has potential), Malcolm (good on his feet) and Ryan.
Ewing has more options because the forward position is our most glaring need. We were thin at that position with Pickett and Bile here. Now that they are gone, we need some guys that can move, are athletic and are above 6'6" with some basketball skill.

The King can play either center or power forward (maybe even some small forward depending on matchups). Q could only play center. So the King gives us alot of roster flexibility which allows for matchups and more playing time for everyone. I think if Bile comes back, look out, we will be a very tough out. I see alot of full court press and trapping out of next year's team.

I'm excited to see what new dimensions Tre brings to the squad. He's a great pickup, and hopefully Coach killed two proverbial birds (no starting 4, missing Q's offense) with one stone.
Even if we hit another home run and add Baldwin, King gives us the flexibility to slide over to the 5 and let PB start at the 4.
Harris, Riley/Carey, Aminu, Baldwin, King...? Can't even let myself think about that possibility.

Per 40 minutes last year:
King: 1.7 BPG, 2.1 SPG Wahab: 2.3 BPG, 0.6 SPG
Personally, I'd rather have the guy who can be counted on to be where he needs to be on the floor and does a better job disrupting passing lanes, getting deflections, rotating when we switch/help, etc. than the guy hunting blocks at the cost of everything else.

He was young, and one of the best bigs in the BE. Kid was balling down the stretch for us. We won't get to see it in blue and gray, but I was definitely looking forward to how good he would become under Ewing for the next two years. Anyway smh.

I hate how easy we make it for the opposing offense to run their stuff.

I would prefer both of them if Pickett and Bile leave and Baldwin/Chet doesn’t come. That said, looking back at Q’s game and what we know now that his handler was so involved, is it possible that Q didn’t pass the ball once he got it because he was being told to shoot at all costs to improve his individual numbers? Who knows, but now he’s stuck with a horrible career assist-to-TO.

I'm pretty certain that his very poor play in the Colorado game was the result of him being conflicted with the fact that he was already promised to Maryland and how awkward leaving would be given the magical BET run. He was really tense and panicked in that game from the get go.
